If you're on your way to
@Gatwick_Airport
, it might be helpful to know that there is no running water across the entire airport. That means no coffees, no water fountains, no flushing toilets and no hand washing. Gatwick hasn't bothered to make a public announcement about this to passengers. How helpful...

I've decided I'm moving because of this heat and having to have windows open 24/7 all bloody summer. I'm sick of having to listen to other people's dogs, arguements, cars, TV, lawn mowers, strimmers, hot tub chat, kids screaming, builders drilling, DIY, fireworks...... I'm moving from town to country. Budget 650-700k. Sounds a lot, but not here. I have to be detached.....

You can still hear all that in detached though. Even in remote locations, you can hear the nearest neighbours outside dogs yelping across the valley. Choose your area very wisely. Invest in some good quality headphones in the interim. They're a life saver.

Lovely and cool here in Cheshire today. Had plenty of rain overnight and this morning and it's now fresh and breezy. Love it 🙌

We have a mini freezer (about the size of a hotel minibar) that we’ve used in the past for outdoor BBQs and when we have too much food at Christmas! Well this year my DH has set it up in the bedroom and we now keep ice packs and cold flannels in there so we have a plentiful supply throughout the night!

Fantastic idea!

Does anyone else wake up these days and think to themselves “oh god there’s that revolting sunshine again!”?

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 26/07/2026 15:05

Considering a solar oven purely for these revolting summer months.

the80sweregreat · 26/07/2026 15:10

Yep, I looked out the window today hoping for some rain, but nothing. Only a few spots :(
It’s going to be 31 on Wednesday. I mean , it’s just getting silly now. I do hope august isn’t as bad

Could you recommend some? Noise blocking headphones or earplugs? Headphones might be too hot though 😕

Me! It feels cruel and sinister, like something out of a Stephen King novel, the way it rears up early in the morning and has reached killer heat level by about 11am. I get loads of heat at the back of my house and the window catches get hot when it goes over about 25 degrees, When this happens I know we are in for a very hot day

JenniferBooth · 26/07/2026 17:12

I have trouble using headphones at the mo because of the ear infection i had caused by this sweat box in the first place so i was listening to Confessions II the new Madonna album through the laptop speakers at 1pm yesterday.

Thesquaregiraffe · 27/07/2026 18:11

I’ve been actively avoiding looking at any weather apps etc but I’m employing my son and his friend to tidy up the garden (for a bit of cash) before we go on holiday so braved it and looked.

10 day forecast and not even the hint of rain! Not a drizzle, or brief downpour…. Nada! Nothing! - a big fat Zero!

Just bluugghfff! Urgh!

the80sweregreat · 27/07/2026 18:13

If the conspiracy around chem trails is true and blocking out the sun and causing wetter weather, then it’s not working is it !
Everywhere is like straw where it should be green and lush with much needed rain.
We need so much water and it’s not happening in the south. It is so worrying.

I’m in the south and we had about 20 seconds of rain yesterday which did precisely nothing. You’re right though, we will need so much more rain now to counteract “The great heat of 26!”.

And today, whilst at work, the garage opposite the office seemed to be cleaning the forecourt with some kind of pressure washer which was obviously using a ton of water (I do realise they might have been trying to remove oil or something) but it felt like a lot of wasted water.

I’d quite like to just cry quietly in the corner but that feels like a terrible waste of water as well!

JenniferBooth · 27/07/2026 19:04

Have booked a taxi for the dentist tomorrow
a. bus is unreliable and has no air con
b. not walking in this heat.
c If i did either of the above i would be an anxious sweaty mess and unable to relax when i need to be the opposite for dental treatment.

Yep. It’s been bearable the last few days because there’s been some cloud and a good breeze but today my living room is once again 28 degrees and tomorrow it’s forecast to be 30. Then weds 33. I am so very tired of it all. The fields look so sad and scorched and I am in fear for the wildlife. Please god, make it stop.

ConstantlyFuriosa · 27/07/2026 19:24

I’m going out on Thursday right in the middle of the day to meet a friend and I’m thinking of taking my bloody umbrella because otherwise I’m going to arrive a hot, sticky mess. I get hot even walking in 22 degree heat (thank you, menopause). I haven’t seen her in ages and don’t want to arrive a sodden mess. I’ll probably look insane but fuckit.

Trying to console myself that at least the days are shorter. Unfortunately for me, the angle of the sun is more direct on my west facing windows so it feels hotter! Argh!

EmeraldRoulette · 27/07/2026 20:02

@ConstantlyFuriosa loads of people are carrying umbrellas around here?

The weather forecast bears no relation to reality. I can't believe what a complete waste of summer this is so far.

we had a tiny bit of cloud yesterday that was it

Just over a month ago i bumped into an old friend i hadnt seen for years. We agreed to go out for a coffee and we both said.........when the heatwave is over lol
I really need to text her again and say sorry that she hasnt heard from me but i dont want to risk being persuaded to go out in this. Hard enough to do it when i have to. Pissed off because we have always gotten on really well but i think she will understand when i tell her ive had a double ear infection because of the heat in this place followed by emergency dental treatment

Lifeomars · 27/07/2026 20:40

We had about 10 drops of rain yesterday evening, neither use nor ornament, it must be well over a month since we last had rain. this heat feels never ending.

I haven’t seen any. I’ve heard tell of fancy parasols, though!

I’m sure she will understand. I’d made this date ages ago and we don’t live near each other so not sure when we’ll next get the chance.

Curse this bloody weather!

I’ve had a parasol for years, the type that has UV- blocking black liner and a nice pattern
on the cover. Light penetrates an ordinary umbrella but is better than nothing, while the UV lining blocks it completely
