I saw the forecast yesterday and next week it’s creeping up to 29 again. I wasn’t happy , but this morning is a bit chilly for a change.

A high of 22 here today - which is what, about 70? Which objectively is still warm and as a kid this was the highest it ever used to get, I’m sure.

Anyway. It will be climbing into the 30s again by next weekend but for now I’m so relieved.

Had a very pleasent evening yesterday sitting in my friends garden drinking wine and chatting and enjoying the cool air! Its much more pleasant this morning too. Although my house is still boiling.

I do think the next pressing problem will be the lack of rain more than the heat though.

I really can’t wait for October!

What if it’s a dry winter ? I really hope it isn’t , but that would be a catastrophe.

I know what you mean. When I was a kid growing up in Wales, 23 was approaching really hot. I’m really concerned about how rapid all this change has been. I’m also feeling fluey and achey in a way that always gets me during a prolonged summer.

I didn’t hear the new incoming PM mention climate change , but like defence needs more money , so will this. It is worrying the lack of water , it hasn’t rained properly for ages. Everyone seems to be hoping it’ll all go away I think. Or climate change deniers I guess.

I am worried about the new PM’s climate policies given that I see news reports this morning saying that he’s planning to allow new North Sea drilling. Having lived through these last few weeks of hell, it staggers me that he would dream of allowing this.

I think this heat event is due to a Super El Niño (I remember reading about it somewhere). But, even though this is classed as a rare event, I do think it’s fair to say we’re likely to see them more often.

I think we all need to take a bit of responsibility for water usage now to reduce problems later really.

Today though, I am grateful for the reprieve and intend to try and do some things I have neglected in the heat.

I am dreading the next wave - which will come at some point.

Back to normal low 20’s so I’m happy

Not in the Sanctuary sweatbucket. I cooked tonight and instantly regretted it. Sweat pouring off me while eating so straight into a cold bath afterwards.

It's 23c here today with some fresh air and I feel human and compos mentis; it's such a welcome change as I can actually do stuff without sweat dripping off me and feeling shattered. I like sunshine and warm weather, but I can't bear suffocating heat and the way city air feels so stagnant and mucky when we have such extreme temperatures

It has been cooler the last few days and I’ve also felt better , but I dread it returning with a vengeance.

We’re forecast 26° here today, and it looks like it’s staying in the mid to high 20s all week.

Because we will still be reliant on gas for years to come whilst we continue to wean ourselves off it. So why import it /very unenvironementally friendly when we can use more of our supply?

It's was bout 20-21 degrees indoors in my flat and this morning and I had a moment of madness where I actually briefly considered putting the heating on because I felt quite cold 😂.

We have a high of 22 today so much more manageable. Dh had to go out at 10pm last night and put on a jumper, which felt very odd to see.

The other small glimmer of hope re the next wave is that it gets darker sooner. Having that heat over the longer days was a killer

Just voted. I like her! We have similar ideas on fashion! I don’t like feet either and reluctantly wear summer clothes when I prefer gothic autumnal styles.

The Super El Niño has only just begun. The UK won't feel the effect for about 6/7 months yet - we are likely to get a strong cold ice snap towards the end of winter apparently.

This warm 'dome' we have had for the last 4/5 weeks has been attributed to a slowing down of the jet stream - locking hot air over us that can't escape.

@icepopsincoming what does this mean ,you mean next summer will be even hotter ?
