I work in a hospital and honestly I've never seen so many patients, especially the elderly, hospitalised with dehydration, UTIs, falls, sudden decline in kidney function (especially if they have existing problems with them) and acute delerium/confusion....often there being an overlap of some or all of those conditions at once. Long lies from the falls as well....think 35+ weather, fallen at home and on the floor for many hours without a drink and unable to get or otherwise waiting for hours for help to arrive.

The pressure in A&E usually eases to a degree in late spring/summer as you don't tend to see so many chest infections/flu etc but for our vulnerable patients like the elderly, those with diabetes, issues like COPD, on steroids etc....I feel like this prolonged hot weather is hitting them really hard this year.

It is putting pressure on the NHS :(

Yep, my DD is an ICU doctor and she says the same thing. Patients with underlying conditions which were pushed beyond their limits in the last few weeks, declining rapidly, dehydration, kidney failure. So sad. Mostly elderly, but not always.

So annoying they kept stating soon to be restocked and I was checking daily then bam all showed up as Sold out.

It had cooled quite pleasantly with the wind these last couple of days but omg this evening! It feels like it’s steadily getting warmer and warmer. I now feel I need the air con unit on again but the thought of the noise fills me with dread. I also got a little burnt this afternoon while having lunch with work colleagues at a tea room. We had an umbrella with the outdoor table but that threatened to take off like Mary Poppins so we had to take it down.

Agree. Gorgeous last night and this morning and then around 4pm ish, the temperature felt like it went up 10°. It was like winds direct from the Sahara. It's cooled a bit now but nothing like last night.

Been cooler today than it was last week, but still 28-29C. (North Midlands.) Humidity has been lower than last week though, so it was more bearable. Still hot though! Gonna get hotter as the week goes on too.

According to my weather app, it's not going to drop below 27C for the next 10 days. On 5 of those 10 days it's predicted to be 29-32C. Last few weeks, the temperature was 2-4 degrees C higher than my weather app predicted, so it could hit 34-35C. (Again!) For quite a few days!

I am in the NW and now engulfed in a cloud of acrid smoke from the fires on the moors and elsewhere, so can’t open my windows, despite the evening and early morning temperatures being slightly more pleasant atm. It means I can’t cool the house down and it’s just building up to being quite intolerable. Even with the windows shut I can smell the smoke but if you open them it’s really very strong. I feel absolutely desperate for rain.

I don’t know what’s happened where I am (near the Midlands) as considering it was meant to be really hot all the week, it’s actually really cold outside.

It’s 18 degrees and I’ve just been outside to hang the washing on the line (there’s a really strong wind too) and I had to come back in and put a cardigan on as I was so chilly! The sky looks grey and I think rain is coming. (which defeats the purpose of me putting the washing out, I know).

Yesterday I was outside for a few hours and I got sunburnt!!

I’m praying to God this is the start of the end of this current heatwave at least!

I’m in the Midlands too, East Staffs, and it’s cool here with quite a breeze but it was the same yesterday morning before it hit 28° in the afternoon.

The forecast today was for higher temperatures here. It might be a case of getting much hotter as the day goes on , which happened yesterday too. I did sleeo better , so I don’t think it’s as hot as it has been at night last few days. It’s still worrying there isn’t any rain

I’m finding the lack of rain a big worry. We have a hosepipe ban here now and there’s no rain forecast for the next 10 days. I don’t think it has rained since June

Forecast is saying tje highest it will hit is 24 degrees but not until 4pm and that the wind will remain all day, and then back down to 18/19 degrees by 7pm.

I’m clinging on to the hope that forecast won’t change 🤣

As if it's not already been/going to be hot enough....you've got nearby raging fires (I saw a picture on Reddit earlier of a fire.....I'm not quite sure where, but it was on/next to a railway lines and it had actually caught someone's garden on fire too....that must be terrifying!) and advice to keep everything shut up (including the trapped heat inside 😥) because of all the smoke. I'm sorry you find yourself in this situation currently....that sounds really dreadful.

This sort of thing is happening far more often now....it's going to be devastating for our wildlife and it can't be good for human health either....

i filled up the water butt with some water out the washing up bowl today ! It didn’t go far , but we can’t use the hose ( not an official ban , but I didn’t want to chance it)
The lack of rain is worrying me, but we did have a lot in winter and autumn , so it might be alright.

Feeling so sorry for all the elderly ending up in hospital.

My 12yo was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes earlier this year and had been doing really well but the heat makes things even more unpredictable.

I woke up with a sinus headache this morning at 5am, so feel exhausted today. Im wfh for the week but really tempted to take a half day and finish early so I can sleep.

We still have a breeze here, which helps. When looking at the weather forecast now, I am checking the wind speed as well as the temperature.

Yesterday the forecast here was for 25, and my phone said it was 25, but our outside thermometer and car thermometer said 29 and 30.

My phone says it's going to get up to 25 again today but we have a lot of cloud coverage so it's cool but nice right now.

I've put the pool heater on anyway just in case the clouds dissipate and the children want to get in after school, and I am assembling our new parasol shortly which will hopefully also block out the afternoon and evening sun from the living room windows.

I've also got a cut to size blackout/heat reflective blind I am going to assemble.

We had a dry April and may too. Had some rain about two weeks ago , but not for long.

I only have a tiny back yard but it is a real sun trap, gets the heat and light for most of the day. Far too hot to go out there other than to take rubbish to the bins. It actually feels dangerous. Green bin needed to go out for collection today and the plastic handles were hot to the touch. All my plants have had it and I think I am going to just dig them up and start again with things that don't need much water

And now Essex County Council are going to be shutting our road for three days to resurface it so buses wont be running. For three days from Tuesday next week. Four if Starmer calls a bank holiday next Friday. So we could be stuck indoors just as it cools down. The leaflet says not to open our windows either.

Jesus this fucking shithole. I cant move to straighten the fucking bed without the sweat pouring off me.
