It’s just so unbearable the way it’s going on and on. I think what’s particularly difficult with it - compared with say a heatwave in August - is that the days are so long and the nights are so short, so there’s very little chance for it to cool down overnight. Just feels like remorseless daylight and sunshine.

I really can’t imagine that anyone could enjoy this weather. My garden is parched, I’ve noticed more flies around, everyone is sleep deprived, we are going through gallons of suncream - I really loathe it and feel utterly miserable. 😞 Sorry to rant.

the80sweregreat · 11/07/2026 08:32

It used to be ‘ three days of sun and a thunderstorm’ and that’s now just an myth ( or what it was like when I was little years ago)
Its just the fact it’s not clearing off any time soon that I can’t face each day.

When I said overnight low of 19 I meant outside. It’s always at least 5-10 degrees hotter inside.

I’m so sick of this I want to scream. How on earth can anyone find this shit ‘glorious’. I want to punch them in the face.*

Hi, I’ve come to have a little moan.

I don’t want to feel like I’ve ‘wasted’ my weekend, but I also don’t want to go out, it’s too hot. I’ve had a constant low level headache for the last few days. Hydration is an active pursuit for me - I can get dehydrated any time of the year if I don’t actively drink my way through the day. So it’s almost a full time job at the moment. I can’t control my body temp (I also struggle in a slight chill).

I just want it to be a reasonable 24° please. Is that too much to ask?

ConstantlyFuriosa · 11/07/2026 09:11

“I just want it to be a reasonable 24° please. Is that too much to ask?”

No, but some wag will come along and tell you we only get 3 days of sunshine per year and the rest it pisses down so be thankful and shut up.

Which is conplete and utter bollocks and has been for at least a decade. How do I know? I’ve lived in this shithole for ten years studying the weather forecast when it quickly became apparent I'd moved into a greenhouse by mistake.

PinkHollyhocks · 11/07/2026 09:14

What happened to the good old British summers of my childhood. Rain, rain , two sunny days and a storm.

UK summers used to be the butt of many a joke....

I am also angry and anyone who dares tell me “we never get a summer “‘will wish they hadn’t!

Im so, so over this shitty heat now.

I’m so hot and sleep deprived that my head is banging, my eyes are so sore and I don’t want to do anything but scream.

I genuinely don’t know what to do with my myself and I just feel pissed of and frustrated. I want to rip my skin off because I am so fucked off at feeling so hot and uncomfortable.

I so desperately want to sleep but I can’t. I can barely function.

I dread the days and I dread the nights.
Life is crap!

How anyone finds any kind of enjoyment from these temperatures is beyond me because it’s utterly SHIT!

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 11/07/2026 10:55

Last night I just laid with the fan on me and kept misting myself down with water. It felt like things kept landing on me, so even though I did manage sleep I kept being woken up and now I'm grumpy and tired.

I've had enough. I've loads of housework to do and the second I move I am drenched in sweat and feel like I am cooking from the inside out. Quite vastly watching the house fall into unmanageable disarray.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 11/07/2026 10:57

Oh and I am fed up of needing a wee!

All I am doing is drinking and drinking to stay cool and hydrated but it feels like I am constantly cursed to trudge up and down the stairs to get to the toilet. My legs are actually tired from it.

I’m just giving up on life. My depression is so bad now with the relentless heat and the effects it’s having on me mentally and physically I’d be quite happy if someone told me I wouldn’t wake up tomorrow

the80sweregreat · 11/07/2026 11:14

There is a bit of a breeze today and it’s less oppressive, but still too hot for me and everywhere is parched.

Lots of people buying bbq food and so on today , so some make the most of it , but I still don’t sit outside in it.
It is a bit different on holiday as you can cool off , but you can’t easily at home. It is very depressing. Maybe by next weekend it may change.

This sounds really serious. I hope you have some support in RL. One thing that helps me a little is checking the sunrise and sunset times. I know the gains each day are tiny but at least we are moving in the right direction. Remember that it will eventually end. It will be cool again. Sending you total solidarity.

I have had poor mental health pretty much every July due to the heat but doctors don’t care. I won’t ever take antidepressants again seeing as they just increase heat intolerance and make me gain weight, and body image issues are yet another problem for me in the summer. I genuinely feel the weather is never going to. Cool down again and frankly never signed up to live in a hot climate

BlackeyedSusan · 11/07/2026 11:28

I woke up at 8:05 this morning feeling cold. COLD!!

Windows open all night, computer on pumping out heat. (only time it is cool enough for ds to use) Had to put t shirt back on and a blanket.

Temperature was: 28 degrees c. Bloody hell, this heat has broken me! (It's already gone up again.)

DancingLions · 11/07/2026 11:30

Sending sympathy to everyone struggling 💐 It is the worst feeling.

We had DS birthday meal last night so had to brave the tube. Luckily only 10 minutes and it was at 7 so had cooled by a degree or so! But God it was hot. I definitely could not commute in this.

BlackeyedSusan · 11/07/2026 11:35

It is relentless isn't it. I dread heat waves in this flat too @RhosynCymru

Yes it is. When we have cold weather the forecast end to it is usually accurate not constantly extended for months on end. I’m exhausted. And when it does finally end it takes weeks for me to recover.

the80sweregreat · 11/07/2026 11:47

August can be hit and miss sometimes. In 76 the heatwave stopped towards the middle and end of August I think.
I am hoping this stops long before then.
The forecaster yesterday said that by next weekend it might be a lot cooler , so might get some rain fingers crossed

I’m convalescing from something hideous, but the benefit to that is, I have every excuse to not move at all. I am surrounded by fans, and have a water mister to spray on me. Barely alive, but thank goodness I don’t / can’t do anything more strenuous.

Anyway - I’ve spent a lot of time dreaming of portable aircon units. And, more importantly, how to make them work with my stupid windows.

IF they ever come back into stock, this window kit may work for those of us with difficult windows? https://www.cutmy.co.uk/air-conditioner-window-seal/

IIRC in 1976 it broke in early September - I clearly remember being back at school and in the biology lab when it finally rained 😂

Delatron · 11/07/2026 12:42

My MiL claims the 1976 heatwave broke when my DH was born - 27th August! Recollections may vary. Maybe it ended at different times across the country!

I was 16. I recall the rain starting the day after the August Bank Holiday. We went shopping for clothes for 6th form as I didn't have to wear uniform. Kent.

Just looked it up. The bank holiday was 30th August, so the rain started on 31st.
