Thanks for the advice but I did not actually freeze the bottle (it's one of those body length ones and wouldn't fit in the freezer) I just ran the cold tap until the water felt really cold and filled the bottle.

We are on holiday in spain and its been 39° some days this week. (About 28° overnight) Theres no air con but the ceiling fans are doing an ok job in the lower floor bedrooms. Upstairs rooms feel uncomfortably hot. I bought several of these type of bottles with me to use as cold water bottles and they have worked ok. (I put them in the freezer)

We have a newish baby (almost 4 months old) in my family and keeping them cool has been a real challenge for his parents. Been on this planet for a matter of weeks and already two heatwaves and two prime ministers in his little life!

I had a ceiling fan installed into the light fitting over my bed. I had it done by an electrician and it's a real help. It has 3 dimmable spotlights on it too.

Last night I went to bed with a picnic icepack as dd had the frozen hot water bottle.

It really helped, tonight I might do a 500ml drinking water bottle as it might not thaw so quickly.

Does taking loft hatch off help? Reluctant to do it but will if it defo helps.

New thermometers arrived. My new obsession clearly. Anyway just now temperature in direct sunlight, front room and outside shade. All indoor readings match on all thermometers so at least they’re working properly

I’ve had a picnic ice pack between my thighs and under my armpits all afternoon and remembered I had a gel face mask from Lidl which doesn’t last long after it’s been out of the fridge but it helps

We have hit 35C now. As of 6pm.

It isn't even humid but it's making me feel soooooo drowsy, and like putting one foot in front of the other is a challenge! I have bowls of cold water all over the place for the wildlife and visiting cats, and they're using them... Dogs are welcome too, but I haven't seen a single person walking a dog after 10am or before 8pm recently. Sensible dog owners.

As someone said on Facebook earlier, in the UK, most homes are made to retain the heat (as we're not a 'hot country.' We are quite far north!) So this heat in many British homes is not leaving the property very quickly!

And there seems to be no end to it! As I say, temperature now up in the North Mids/North Staffs (where I am) is 35C. It's pretty much the hottest place in the UK right now.

Yes it definitely helps. My dear departed dad swore by this. Heat rises, so let it go in the loft, cooler bedrooms.

How are other people who've had recycling system changes recently finding it in this hot weather? There have been loads of issues in the East with missed and skipped or delayed collections for all bin types....despite us being a month and a half into the new system. It's all very well asking us to follow the new rules but they're making it very difficult for us to follow when they're not doing their bit too!

The black (general waste) and food bins get particularly bad when the weather is like this...I have never seen so many flies in my entire life! 🤢

I have a hair appointment next Tuesday Im not looking forward to it even though my hairdresser is really good. It has got to the point now that i am looking for a local salon with air con.

I had my hair done today, and the salon was surprisingly cool as it was in the shade.

😆 I can't believe I actually took a perfectly good fan (a biggish one) to the charity shop as when we moved here, we had very little space to store anything and I stupidly thought we only need one! What the f**k was I thinking?! Got another one now but that's only two in the whole house.. so yeah, an army is what I need!

Found one They do waxes there too Gonna move everything to there The salon i go to for my waxes (which is a diff one which i go to for my hair) is even more unbearable and rather than get air con fitted they have just kept doing half days and closing

My god. I’m sweating through my eyeballs. I feels so fucking hot. It’s 33 still. At 7.30pm. I cannot seem to regulate my temperature and cool down no matter what I do

I sold an air con unit a couple of years ago. Ask me how much I regret that!!

I've got one of those horrible ceiling sconces. Bane of my life. Keep seeing those plug in ceiling fans and I am green with envy and red from the heat.

Why does every new build house in the UK not have air-conditioning fitted as standard nowadays?

I don't think there's been that much demand until now. We've had the odd heatwave but this is the first time I think we've had 3 in quick succession and so early on in the summer. Most people were still of the mindset that it wasn't worth it for "a couple of days a year".

Personally, I've had portable air con for years. Got my first unit in 2004! I've never enjoyed heat (and no I never go on holiday to hot places either). If I was a homeowner, 100% I'd have had it installed by now.

Going forward maybe developers will consider it more but obviously it would add to their costs which they'd then pass on to the purchaser, so you'd still be paying for it either way.

It’s the running costs that put me off air con , but honestly I’d have it on every room if I could.

Hoping by next year I will be in a position to have it installed in a couple of main rooms. It will cost to run it but so do the portable ones we have on all the time now, but hopefully the fact we barely need heating anymore nowadays will offset the cost in what used to be called “winter “
