We are in Mexico ,staying in playa del Carmen.
We got here on Monday.
Im just bored now, every day is the same, get up breakfast ,sunbathe, lunch ,pool etc etc
We have had really bad jet lag, waking up at 4am.
Today we managed to sleep in till 6am.
We left resort on Thursday but the heat and humidity was so intense we felt faint.
We are here till next Friday
We have trips next week booked for Isla murajes,Cozumel and chitchen itza.
The heat is just so intense here
Last night it was 28 degrees with no air at 11pm
I miss my pets and my routine
Dont want to sound ungrateful and I do love holidays
Does anyone get like this ?

Do you love holidays though? What type of holiday?

TeenLifeMum · 27/06/2026 14:00

We’ve had temperatures on 35 degrees with 73% humidity in the uk so I’m loving today’s breeze. I don’t get bored if I have nice food, rest and can swim in the sea. I can snorkel for hours. I’m also very fond of napping on a sun lounger in the shade. Dh hates sitting still so he’s usually off wondering around it playing table tennis or something. Sounds like you’ve booked the wrong kind of holiday for your preferences.

purpleme12 · 27/06/2026 14:00

God no I can safely say I do not get like this

Maybe you need to go on less holidays so you actually appreciate a holiday

luluxxx · 27/06/2026 14:03

I normally love beach holidays but I think the heat and time difference has been a bit of a killer this time.
I have never travelled further than a 2houe time difference

catslovehairties · 27/06/2026 14:05

No, but then again, I'd never go somewhere with such high temperatures.

DistantEarlyWarning · 27/06/2026 14:05

I’d be bored, but that’s not my kind of holiday. I want to hike and take photos and then sit on a balcony or terrace with wine and cheese in the evening.

Seagroves · 27/06/2026 14:06

Yes, but only on beach type holidays. They are just not for me! Spent a week abroad in a heatwave a few years ago, where it was too hot to do anything. Never again!

harderthanIexpected · 27/06/2026 14:06

I would get bored on that kind of holiday, so I don't go on those types of holiday?! I tend to do shorter city breaks, a week in villa in an interesting area, or a road trips if I am able to get away for longer.

Nothing wrong with resorts if you are craving that kind of downtime, but yes, the predictable routine is kind of the point?

basoon · 27/06/2026 14:07

I love holidays but I'd be bored there too. I try to plan somewhere not too hot, with lots to do. Museums, at fairies, day trips. And sea swimming a lot. Can't be arsed with a pool

I absolutely love being up at dawn in a new place with the chance to explore before anyone else is about. Best chance of seeing the wildlife.

You might need to have a re-think about what you want from a holiday.

Tickingcrocodile · 27/06/2026 14:07

I would be bored on a holiday like that. I like to go out and see things every day, even if just for a couple of hours. Are there any nearby places you can go for a wander? Go early when the heat is less intense.

luluxxx · 27/06/2026 14:11

We are going to go to fifth Avenue this morning for a wander ,I think it might break the day up a bit
then partner wants to be back to watch the England game later today
That’s on at 4pm so should be fun

Staying in a resort is hell for me ! I can’t stand that type of holiday

when I was in playa we had a hotel with a pool which was nice - but I was out and about every day

we had a car and we drove around a bit. Went out to find cool places to eat, went snorkelling etc
there’s heaps to to in Mexico

Gardeningsideeffects · 27/06/2026 14:13

We like a villa. Somewhere remote without other people.

Massive, massive supermarket shop with all the cheese and bread and wine.

Then I like to do precisely nothing all day.

Get up. Pool. Long lunch, wine, nap.

Pool. Read. Wine. Nap.

Drink. Scrabble. Read. Sleep.

DappledThings · 27/06/2026 14:15

Only been bored on holiday when we accidentally booked a resort that was isolated like that so nothing to do except laze about. I can do that 1-2 days max. Always planning to be out and about seeing and visiting places and back for a swim late afternoon only.

I love holidays and travel multiple times a year, sometimes even every month. I hate the kind of holiday you have described, I’d be bored out of my mind.

aintnothinbutagstring · 27/06/2026 14:29

I usually holiday in places where theres a mix of town/city/country/some sort of culture like art or historical sites. I dont think i even consider beaches as realistically, unless you love swimming or watersports, how long can you spend on a beach. My kids are teens and get bored easily. Also, a lot of resorts, if theres nothing around the resort, you dont get a good experience of local food/drink either.

sellthesunset · 27/06/2026 14:31

Agree, I have been on that type of holiday once or twice and it’s very boring! no wonder everyone starts drinking early to pass the time. I get very restless and don’t like beach/pool holidays (unless there’s a sports complex/classes included). You could go for a city break/ or road trip type holiday next time, or going with a group relieves the boredom a little too

Exactly...why would you go all that way just to lie by the pool?
There really is more to Mexico. Get out there and explore.
If you don't like that...then go to Benidorm.

Yetone · 27/06/2026 14:45

OP, I agree with you. I think hot, hotel based holidays are quite boring. Our last holiday of this type was nor far from where you are: Playacar. At the end Despite the lovely food, pool, weather etc, We had spent most of our time on the same bit of concrete! At least where you are the days trips are really good. Try and do as many as you can afford.
We now try to do personal touring holidays. We have been to some really interesting places: Chile, Argentina, Brazil, New Zealand, Thailand, India, Borneo and more. We prefer to see a country rather than just be round a pool that could quite frankly be anywhere.
We also love this country too. It has some beautiful places.

palran · 27/06/2026 14:49

It depends on the type of holiday you like. Many really enjoy a beach/pool set up, some don't. The weather is a huge factor. Too hot and you can't do much except sleep in an air conditioned room, or shop in an AC centre. I don't know how people can sit on a beach for hours in a hot part of the day, but that's not my problem!

As for me, I'm never bored when away. I do not enjoy sea, sand, beach, sunbed holidays as I would be bored rigid so I don't do them.

My breaks are around cities, or interesting (to me) things to see and explore. Never in the months of June, July or August either! We are all different and what I like, you might hate.

luckylavender · 27/06/2026 14:51

I like holidays with museums, churches, temples, busy high streets and markets and good spells at the pool. And a full kindle.

PintofFizz · 27/06/2026 14:52

Perhaps it's a good time to think what you actually want from a holiday and book that next time instead.

Candlesniffin · 27/06/2026 14:53

I get bored af lying around by a pool or on a beach, i have to be seeing the sights
