How is Ariana Grande allowed to keep going?

She looks like she’s at death’s door with anorexia and yet she’s just kicked off a world tour.

I thought we were living in more enlightened times now and that celebrities’ ill health wouldn’t be enabled like this. If she went to any hospital she’d get admitted for malnutrition.

@IcedPurple its very normal for celeb to have an eating disorder.

Both her & Cynthia were teeny in Wicked.

I don't know of many other celebs who are as skeletal as Ariana. It's not the 'norm', even among celeb types.

I checked her age. She's only 32! If I didn't know better I'd have guessed she was at least a decade older in that picture.

Yes she doesn't look healthy at all does she? And yes, being uber thin is quite ageing.

Dollymylove · Yesterday 19:41

Ariana does not look at all well. Another casualty of the arena bombing imho x

If she was clearly drunk on stage or high on drugs we would call it out for what it is and question being spectators to it. But under the guise of 'feminism' we are told not to comment on womens bodies as if this is similar to mocking someone for cellulite.

I don't doubt she wants to be on stage, that part of her mind is probably enjoying all the comments about her body being so small, and getting a thrill from moments of lightheadedness, getting to exercise in front of a crowd...

for the person to say the photos on twitter are edited and not similar to what she posts herself see this. And that's not to mention all the promo pics from her latest album that seem entirely based around her protruding bones.

Yes. She's body-checking. Her behaviours are very familiar to any recovered anorexic. I really don't think anyone can deny she has an eating disorder at this point. If you're gaunt through secret illness, you don't show it off like this.

She's turning herself into thinspo.

This thread isn’t about overweight people, it’s about Ariana Grande. It’s ok to just discuss one issue on a thread. The ’whataboutery’ is pointless and unhelpful.

it's about Ariana Grande being , I quote looks like she’s at death’s door with anorexia

It's discussing somebody's body. No difference with someone being overweight, or "at death door with obesity"

It's ok to point out the double standards, she's not fair game because she's (too) slim.

Yes, and Kylie cancelled a world tour when diagnosed with breast cancer.

Presumably that was her choice though.
I’m not saying that AG looks in any way healthy, or that this tour is good for her. It’s just that cancelling it would involve someone else making that decision and forcing her to against her will, and that’s where the difficulty lies.

mrsbowes · Yesterday 19:42

furimosa · Yesterday 19:31

She’s quite normal for celeb land though

Maybe in the past or even in Wicked (although she was visibly underweight then) but the photos in this article make her look extremely unwell:

She hosted SNL, a live sketch show, in December and absolutely nailed it. It’s really easy to forget with all the packaging surrounding her that she is a talented, funny actress. She could have had a very different and very successful career as a comedic actress. If you just went off her performance and didn’t judge her by her appearance, I wouldn’t say anything is wrong.

ultimately, you can choose not to buy a ticket to a show if you think a performer is being pressured and is getting on stage against her own best interests. This is why I skipped Britney Spears later concerts.

furimosa · Yesterday 19:42

@IcedPurple again eating disorders are rife amongst celebs. Not everyone will look skeletal with one. Ariana is only 5ft and has a very small frame.

Yes, and if you want to discuss double standards,
or someone’s overweight body, then there will be plenty of forums in which to do so.
She does look unhealthily thin, and that’s what this thread is about.

Funny how Kate Middleton, who is not much bigger, is being praised for her accomplishments , and losing the weight so quickly after giving birth.

Someone will be along to say 'we've lost sight of what a healthy weight is' any time now.

perlan · Yesterday 19:43

You'd wonder if certain substances are keeping her going at performances, since she appears to have little reserves of her own right now.

Not a very good role model for her younger girl fans.

Feelfreee · Yesterday 19:43

likelysuspect · Yesterday 19:28

It can do, it entirely depends on her bloods, organ functioning, whether she is just about on the side of functioning 'ok'.

She’s not naturally this skinny. She’s a really bad role model for young girls.

furimosa · Yesterday 19:44

@mrsbowes she was definitely underweight in Wicked but it’s a movie so lighting and make up will make things look better.

This. ^ If you want to discuss overweight celebrities or the ins and outs of being overweight @JollyGreenWatermelon start your own thread. This is not about anyone who is overweight.

I made the mistake of saying Kate looked far too skinny on a Royal thread, I was ripped to shreds!

Do you mean you want Ariana Grande sectioned and forced to eat? That would only happen if her life was at risk, or her longterm health seriously at risk. Her friends, family or management couldn't make it happen, only social services and doctors.
If you just mean she is setting a bad example to young people, perhaps you could vote with your feet by refusing to let your children go to her concerts. Do you have reason to think that her management is forcing her to be unhealthily thin?

You are joking, right?
