How is Ariana Grande allowed to keep going?

She looks like she’s at death’s door with anorexia and yet she’s just kicked off a world tour.

I thought we were living in more enlightened times now and that celebrities’ ill health wouldn’t be enabled like this. If she went to any hospital she’d get admitted for malnutrition.

There is one of her doing what looks like a ballet type themed performance, and all of her ribs showing. It actually brought a tear to my eye.

Just seen it. Shocking.

PurpleLovecats · Yesterday 18:58

I think it is awful. If you follow advice on the ED boards, teens are often kept off school as they are limiting food too much to cope with the exertion of attending.
Touring is far, far more strenuous. I don’t know how she will cope.

A fat celebrity is a bad example too.

Family. Management. Record company. Her doctors. Friends. Even the bloody insurance company for this tour should have a vested interest in making sure she’s healthy.

basically anyone with a personal connection to her or who is currently making money off her.

she looks like she’s at the level of needing an involuntary hold for anorexia to me.

She’s an adult woman. None of these people can stop her going on tour.

The pictures and video from her tour are really distressing.

content warning for anyone who wants to see. I’ll link instead of posting the images directly in this chat

I don’t know if you’re being wilfully dense. Artists have cancelled shows for ill health before. You can get someone treatment without their consent if it’s bad enough.

Additionally, arguably the music industry in general has a duty of care to the general public, and young people in particular, not to market stars who are extremely visibly unwell from eating disorders.

Do you mean you want Ariana Grande sectioned and forced to eat? That would only happen if her life was at risk, or her longterm health seriously at risk. Her friends, family or management couldn't make it happen, only social services and doctors.
If you just mean she is setting a bad example to young people, perhaps you could vote with your feet by refusing to let your children go to her concerts. Do you have reason to think that her management is forcing her to be unhealthily thin?

I got a knot in my stomach. If they let her perform this way, they are liable IMHO, exploiting vulnerable artists for financial gain, how these people sleep at night I'll never know.

BridgetJonesV2 · Yesterday 19:01

I'm pretty shocked that she's been medically cleared to do this. Surely the promoters/insurance cover would need the main act to be up to the rigours of a concert tour.

Are you saying her life is not at risk here??

I actually took a sharp intake of breath. She looks so vulnerable and like she's on the verge of collapsing. How can she actually function, let alone perform? Serious question?

RubySparrow · Yesterday 19:04

Her and partner/ boyfriend have split up too.

Lomonald · Yesterday 19:04

Here's a recent one. So sad 😞

Yes she is slight but honestly her face looks like its contoured, that slim she has always had sticky out collar bones this isn't a recent photo either she split with her boyfriend months ago. I don't know why anyone would want to stop her, she is in her 30s and seems to have agency.

Yes, at this point it looks like she needs intervention. It would be up to the doctors to decide if her life is at risk that would justify sectioning, but the most recent pictures are harrowing.

but even if she doesn’t meet the criteria for an involuntary hold, I don’t think she should be going on a world tour, no.

It’s another Karen Carpenter situation (except Karen was significantly more talented).

In America they can. Remember the restrictions on Brittany Spears

GellerYeller · Yesterday 19:04

She’s been through so much- the awful events in Manchester, her ex died, and all the usual stresses of fame can’t be easy.
Youd assume the tour insurers will need a medical and she would have medical advisors on tap.
She is, however, an adult women with agency, and whatever your taste, she’s clearly, even by Hollywood standards, extremely talented.

I take it you haven't seen the very recent performance pictures.

How can you or I know whether her life is at risk? She looks very thin, that's all.

You can tell because it’s obvious

Oh my goodness, I just googled and saw her; this is so sad, I got such a shock. She is such a beautiful woman, and looked so very healthy previously. I agree with not commenting on other women's bodies, but when it is unhealthy and life threatening than it is different. It needs to be addressed because she is a role model for young girls, and this is a disorder. Surely she won't have the energy to perform? Surely a doctor would deem her unhealthy to perform, is there not somebody there to check wellbeing etc.

I wonder what has caused this, I was thinking was it the Manchester 2017 tragedy that started and it has spiralled from there, fame destroys so many. I hope she gets help soon, or this won't end well.

She had anorexia before the Manchester terror attack. Almost everyone in Hollywood is on Ozempic/Mountjaro. She’ll be on that.

Perhaps you are a doctor specialising in anorexia. I'm not.
