How is Ariana Grande allowed to keep going?

She looks like she’s at death’s door with anorexia and yet she’s just kicked off a world tour.

I thought we were living in more enlightened times now and that celebrities’ ill health wouldn’t be enabled like this. If she went to any hospital she’d get admitted for malnutrition.

Bless her heart. I think she might be the most talented person of her generation honestly. I really hope she’s ok.

She just looks naturally thin 🤣

All women were this thin back in the 1950s.🙄

This. ^ If you want to discuss overweight celebrities or the ins and outs of being overweight @JollyGreenWatermelon start your own thread. This is not about anyone who is overweight.

exactly, and for what it's worth I can't think of any celebrities whose weight is so high that it seems they may have deadly health complications imminently.

The equivalence to Ariana's situation is that vile show 'My 600lb Life' (which does in fact discuss in detail the serious lifestyle and health implications of being that size) not a slightly bigger celebrity such as Ashley Graham or Lizzo.

That photo posted upthread is very different to the ones posted on AG’s instagram. One wonders which one has been digitally altered.

There’s quite a few videos on YouTube of the concert and she is emaciated in all of them. Aside from how desperately sad it is for Ariana, it’s morally wrong to parade anorexia in front of young girls like it’s something to aspire to. It’s horrifying.

GellerYeller · Yesterday 19:53

Not so long ago, Kelly Osbourne was the subject of similar concern and press speculation. She clapped back that she was unwell. With grief. Thankfully she looks to be doing better. We can’t know what AG is going through but I think we can all agree the pressures in their industry must be unimaginable, whether external or self imposed. I admire them both.

I know opinions are mixed on Taylor Swift on this forum, but she is a good example of what a healthy weight and body size and shape is IMO. I'm always under the impression that Taylor is not swayed or coerced or bullied by anyone though, and she isn't told how to look as she is very independent. So she doesn't feel the need to lose weight/be skinny/alter her appearance beyond recognition.

I fully expect Taylor Swift bashing comments, as there always are on here, and if there is I won't be responding to them. I just wanted to post that this is a good example of a healthy body. Ariana is not sadly... And I agree that she is setting a bad example to young women and girls.

A fat celebrity is a bad example too.

You think a fat celebrity is more of a bad example than one that looks as if they almost ready to collapse through starving themselves and looking skeletal? Being fat is not great, but if you think it’s as bad or worse, then there’s no helping you! Christ. I know what I’d rather be dealing with with my kids.

BurntBroccoli · Yesterday 19:55

She looks very frail and doesn’t seem to be moving very much. It’s very sad - she’s so talented.

Watch Miss Americana where she discusses her disordered eating earlier in her career. She has flipped her mindset and speaks movingly about the affects of constant commentary on her appearance. I think she’s great.

Taylor’s spoken publicly before about struggling with an eating disorder in the past. She says she’s in recovery now though.

@IcedPurple again eating disorders are rife amongst celebs. Not everyone will look skeletal with one. Ariana is only 5ft and has a very small frame.

I'm on my sixties, 5ft 1in with a very small frame. I weigh 51kg. I am tiny and she looks like a stick compared to me. That young woman isn't well.

I wrote upthread about my daughter about my daughter having anorexia in her twenties. Before her illness developed she was working as an aerobics instructor. One of the things that moved her towards recovery was the number of beautiful healthy women in her classes coming up to her and asking how they could get a body like hers.

Although at the time her distorted body image thought she looked great, she wasn't sufficiently removed from reality that she could bring herself to coach other people down the same path. Realising the negative impact she was having on her students hit her hard.

Maybe if AG met girls she was influencing she might get the wake up call my DD got.

3luckystars · Yesterday 19:56

God help her she is starving.

It’s weird though because others are starving because they can’t afford food and she is starving for other reasons. It’s terrible in any case.

SnoopyPajamas · Yesterday 19:56

TheWineoftheChicken · Yesterday 19:32

But that’s their choice, usually. AG isn’t choosing to cancel, so it would involve someone forcing her to, and that’s the hard part.

You can never really know what's going on behind the scenes. I'm sure there's a part of Ariana that doesn't want to let the fans down, and thinks she can cope with it all. By the time you get to that level of anorexia, you're also not really functioning mentally. You're basically in permanent brain fog. Look at her eyes - you can see it. There's a reason she looks so spaced and out of it. Malnutrition will do that to you, unfortunately.

I'm not sure Ariana is really in a position to be making decisions. As others have said, there are ways management and the tour promoters could a stop to this, but doing so would cost them money. It seems like they prefer to live in denial and just hope she'll get better. At this stage of the illness, that's not going to happen without help, and Ariana may no longer be capable of seeking out that help.

People say "oh, she won't get better until she chooses to", and in the long run that may be true. But there comes a point where you have to save the person's life in the moment, and deal with future relapses down the line. It's not about waiting for them to have a moment of clarity. It's buying them time to have that moment in the future, when they're clear-headed and a bit stronger.

Taylor has spoken a lot about her eating disorder (that’s she’s recovered from)

I watched that earlier, it was a nice palate cleanser. She could not have made it through the Eras Tour if she hadn't healed from her 1989 body.

I know Kelly was grieving her father, but I don't believe that grief was the result of how she looked during the BRITs earlier in the year. No way. I have never seen anyone look like this when they were grieving. She is clearly unwell, and has a serious eating disorder. I think (like Sharon) she has been overdoing the weight loss injections. I mean, SOME of her weight loss/looking not too well appearance is possibly down to grief, but it's not just that. (JMO. But I have never seen anyone grieving look so ill and thin...)

furimosa · Yesterday 20:00

@Namechangefordaughterevasion err I’m not arguing that she is healthy weight. She clearly has an eating disorder, my point was many celebs do…

JuliettaCaeser · Yesterday 20:01

Absolutely terrible role model to young girls. Really really unhelpful. Surely that if nothing else should prompt her to get treatment.

Kelly’s had a gastric sleeve apparently.

I really feel for her, people were vile about her and her body when the Osbournes was first airing.

Taylor is a lovely normal healthy weight. A good role model to her young fans.

All women were this thin back in the 1950s.🙄

I could show you photos of my granny and her sisters which would totally disprove this. I'm in my sixties and so most of my older relations were born 1930/1940/early1950s. The only thin relations were the heavy smokers. Growing up with rationing meant diets were very carb heavy and after the war, very sugar heavy.

Yes people were vile about her. If she has got an eating disorder it's hardly surprising! I always thought she was cute.

I was being sarcastic...
