I can see that the previous thread on the topic is full so I am starting a new one to continue the discussion.

The points I wanted to say as someone who immigrated to the UK over 30 years ago:

• This is a horrific attack and everyone's thoughts should be with the victim and his loved one.

• However, I do think that we have an issue with some people getting into the country whether legally or illegally who simply don't have the same values as the majority of the population and are not able to follow its laws and customs.

• The asylum and immigration system needs a serious overall and to do more to stop men who are a potential danger to society because of their beliefs/culture/failure to integrate getting through the system and ending up committing violent acts. Some people destroy their documents and checks can only go so far when it is hard to verify claims and the chaotic countries they come from does not have reliable records that can be accessed . There are many peaceful and genuine asylum seekers who just want a safe place to live in peace but we seem to be getting in too many angry, violent men who abuse the system and that has to stop.

• I don't want to share the streets with people who have no respect for women and girls, are religious fanatics to the point of extremism or show hate towards gay people and bring violence in general.

• Having people from different cultures coming in is fine as long as they integrate well and take on the values of the country they live in. It does not work if they just live parallel lives and fail to follow the law of the land.

Some very strange, holier than thou behaviours this week, claiming moral superiority and dismissing genuine concerns from the majority of citizens of this Country.

I disagree with your second and third points, which I guess are the key debatable ones.

Those keen to overhaul the immigration system point out, rightly, that there has been a big influx of migrants in recent years. Some say 10m in 25 years.

In any group of 10m people, some will be mentally ill, some will be commit crimes, some won't adapt to societal norms. There is no system available to prevent a very very small number of people doing very bad things. It's not immigrants, or a particular culture or whatever. It's that a very tiny proportion of all people are bad/mad/both.

I don't think we are getting proportionately too many angry young men. There are a small number who have done very bad things. But not proportionately more than the non immigrant population.

Knew it wouldn't take long before the apologists turned up! Nobody i know has any problem with immigration to the UK when people integrate, pay taxes and assimilate themselves with British values

The problem lies with those that don't and bring nothing but violence, dissent and values that we do not align with and that is increasing, enabled by our politicians. There is a v v large silent majority who are starting to make their voices heard, like it or agree with it not

I really wish I'd not seen the video. Absolutely horrific. I'm so frightened. So very reminiscent of the Southport attacks. I hope and pray that the victim pulls through. Those people that helped were fucking amazing.

I don't dismiss genuine concerns. But I do dismiss concerns based on misinformation / prejudice / no facts.

There is absolutely no need to be 'scared for our shared future'. There are not hordes of immigrant men attacking innocent white British girls everywhere every day. There are a very small number of incidents, all of which are awful and none of which should be played down on that individual level. But they do not point to a societal problem with a particular group of people. Sadly, crime happens. Criminal of all races and immigration statuses commit it. No group commits it more than any other group. Our shared future should be one in which we collectively look at facts and address the causes of crime and the behaviour of criminals, whoever they are. It shouldn't be one where we demonise small sections of the community because a very small number of people who look like them do bad things.

As a white British person myself I would hate for skin colour, nationality or immigration status to be used as blanket descriptors of potential criminal behaviour, because the overwhelming majority of crime is committed by people who look like me, were born where I was born, and who hold the same passport as I do.

Fully agree. Migration is brilliant and migrants generally are welcome and bring fantastic benefits to countries and communities but the current asylum system/illegal migration systems need to be radically overhauled.

How many innocent people have to die or be attacked or raped before the Government actually do something?

You’ve made a lot of claims in your last couple of posts @blightfitting. I’d be very interested in knowing the source of some of the ‘facts’ you’ve quoted.

It’s because that’s all they have to go on. I’ve argued with many of those type on these sort of threads and they eventually go quiet and stop responding when they have exhausted using the words “racist”, Nigel Farage”,”Tommy Robinson” and “oh well white people commit crimes here already anyway”. Once they have exhausted it they either disappear, hurl insults at you because they have nothing else to say, or carry on twisting your words into something you never said and making shit up! Ha ha

You live in a predominantly white Country, so statistically you will encounter more white crime.

The truth is this. There are floods of dangerous, unchecked immigrants in this Country whose values don’t align with ours. They don’t want to integrate. This is a dangerous combination.

The Government will only take action when it affects them. You can bet your ass if something happened to their family something would be done pretty damn swiftly.

What I don’t understand is the logic that we need immigration to prop up our economy and health system. We’ve allowed 7 million immigrants to arrive since the Millennium and our economy and NHS are still creaking. So it isn’t fixing the issue is it?

Maybe we should completely ignore the apologists, they try to derail what is a major concern for all people. We are going to end up with an ultra right wing government because all concerns around this issue have been stamped down. But that won’t wash now.
