A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

The 93% club is a disgrace. Can you imagine if people who had been to private school invented a special club specifically to exclude people who had been to state school?!?

Typical Labour nastiness to support it.

There was a club a bit like that at my university (PLU = “People Like Us”). We just rolled our eyes and thought they were pillocks. I really hope that they had all outgrown that sort of crap by the time they had been out of university.

There’s no good reason for adults to set up this sort of thing.

The very type of state schools that because my 'EHCP' awarded son in year 10 would attain level 3/4 in GCSE Maths/English he is deemed as 'Average' ability and limited in needs. Thus, why he is redoing year 10 in a Independent in September, this of course is saving the state at least £10K a year but Bridget/Rachel also want an extra subsidy of £5K a year, for the right to save the state money ! VAT.....@ 20%

Talking, of GCSE's DD1 is very tired stressed and nasty at the moment, she is sick of teachers coming up-to her after exams wanting a rundown on how things went. I suppose this happens when every subject teacher bar Art (which she might fail ) expects you to achieve a grade 9 huge expectations= pressure and tetchy behaviour . DD 1 is going to be 'exhausted' in the next 10 days or so and is expected for A level induction courses for English Lit, Politics, Maths & Chemistry around the 24th/25th June. The current nonsense around this Government is also taking its toll on DD1 who always had her heart set on Cambridge , now she is not so sure where she might want to go.

DD2 year 9 same Grammar is adamant, that she will not put herself under any pressure when her time comes for GCSE earning herself a detention when she told her English teacher , nobody needs more than a grade 6. in any GCSE This especially if Labour are re-elected as there will be no jobs, money or future for any kids. DD2 is at times very 'sharp' opinionated and knows her own mind hence asked me if I had a 'School Beret' she wanted to wear to a fancy dress party. My Grammar School apparently got rid of them in the 1960s but according to CHAT GPT Dartford Girls wear wearing them until 1987 ! Anyway I have got her one and had her school badge put on the Beret !

I know this a bit of daft writing but I think sometimes we need a bit of a laugh or something which is amusing that Dartford Girls we still wearing Relics from the 1960s in 1987..

Bridget Phillipson needs 'help' she really does. There, is obviously a problem with Private Schools she has had since she was a child. Bridget its time to get over your hang ups. Did you get a Bursary or a Scholarship , was a pupil of a Private School rude to you . Please Bridget, we need to get to the bottom of your profound bitterness towards Private schools and in particular the very people who use them . These being 7% out of the 30% who actually contribute to the Country and not take from the country. Listen Bridget these very people enable you and your Government to Splash out on 'Free Soggy Toast' for those Parents who would rather have Netflix/Sky sports than provide a Breakfast themselves. No doubt somebody will be making money out of providing two pieces of mangy white bread, some out of date Cereal and all for under a fiver you know !

Labour’s ban on new oil and gas drilling licences in the North Sea is “economic madness”, a trade union leader has claimed.

Gary Smith, the general secretary of the GMB, one of Labour’s biggest union donors, said that the Government’s energy policy was not only hitting jobs but also driving his members to Reform UK.

“Sacking thousands of workers who currently work in the North Sea is economic madness. It’s more akin to Thatcher and what she did to Middlesbrough in the 1980s,” he told Times Radio.

Just heard this on the radio, looked up full quote.

He's not the first union secretary. Unite one a few weeks ago not only wiped the floor with Starmer, but cut funding by five million.

DH wants to know why Starmer hasn't sacked off Milliband.

Any theories you guys?

Pacificsunshine · 08/06/2026 20:18

Too weak to do it?

Ouch at that.

There was someone from a union on this morning who seemed quite annoyed and talked about Labour being their party. Ie it was created by unions and they didn’t want to lose it to Starmer like policies. He also said he’d never back Reform.

That sense of control was interesting but I did think a union boss is voted in and if enough members shift to Reform they could vote in someone who would switch from Labour to Reform.

I think he's simply more popular with the party than Starmer.
It was reported that Starmer tried removing Ed from the energy brief at the last reshuffle, but he refused to go. He obviously holds more power than the PM.

I think they probably still buy what he's selling. They're completely out of touch on everything so that makes sense.

True.
If 🤴 of the north loses the by election, or messes up as PM, we may end up with Red Ed as prime minister at some point. 😬

Can we have the man from Del - Monte instead for PM. If we asked him nicely he might say yes ?

She is a disgrace. If she met my DC she wouldn’t be able to tell which one is state educated and which one is privately educated. However, she would most likely make a judgment about them both given that they don’t have the Yorkshire lilt of their mum or the Estuary twang of their dad. A judgment rooted in prejudice. Because that’s the type of person she is and the Labour Party is full of those type of people.

Haha 😂
I'd settle for Larry the cat at this point.

If not PM, I think Red Ed has a very good chance of being the next chancellor. Can you imagine Mr 'solar panels from Lidl' writing a budget, while singing his windmill song and playing his banjo? Shudder.

Labour shouldn't be anywhere near the levers of power if this is all they have to offer. Piss up, brewery.

You are right, however if Milliband becomes Chancellor come 2030 when DD 2 has finished her A Levels, her projections about being no point in getting stressed about GCSE's A Levels will be true. There will be absolutely nothing positive about the country, nor any opportunities for anyone outside what connections they personally have or there own families wealth ..

We are quite fortunate on both counts . However, that's not the point and does nothing to encourage a well aware teenage girl or others like her to strive that bit harder.

redange · 08/06/2026 21:32

Their families wealth...

Ed and the licences has he turned them down then? I thought he was being asked to consider ?

redange · 08/06/2026 22:15

I am seeing the enthusiasm for learning and the optimism to aim for Cambridge dripping out of DD2. This is alongside comments such as if teaching was good enough for nan or aunt Redange, than it will do for me, despite Sister categorically telling not to be either a teacher/farmer. This is because she is doubting there will be any opportunities when AI etc have done their worst. However, I think it is just a disillusionment towards the direction the country is taken from two 'mature' for the age girls in social understanding about the plight of the country.

DD 2 tells me at school in her age group it is a 50/50 split between right and left thinking which in itself is concerning given the middle/upper middle class make up of students. Though, I might be wrong here and that actually might be a positive marker for the future, given how the left seem to be hugely represented in the professional and Middle/Upper Middle Classes at present.

My D's gets a bit fed up being broke he's just finished his masters. Two friends went to a technical college, got apprenticeships. One has bought a house to let and is saving for his second. Another has flipped his first house and is moving into his second.

DS hasn't a chance of doing anything like this for a few years.
