A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Was there actually a Welfare Spending Review?

Or was that not needed?

I think you’ll find that was simply More Welfare Spending, no review needed.

Defence and why it doesn’t matter seems to be the latest mantra, though it’s always been lurking just below the surface.

“go further” think have we heard that before. What does he mean?

"Go further" = raise taxes even further.

boys3 · Yesterday 19:02

Interesting choice for the new Secretary of Defence.

That is to say interesting the choice of not yet appointing one. At least not as of 7pm.

Probably, no money anywhere else. Well there is but..

boys3 · Yesterday 19:07

I’d hoped that go further was a reference to telling his driver to keep driving as he approached Downing Street.

Seems though that Starmer doing his best, and I have to admit he is truly gifted in this respect, limpet impression.

Middlerage · Yesterday 19:12

You never know - the political currency ed balls view was reeves and treasury shouldn’t have let it get this adversarial - essentially team healey and Starmer is finished.

is it too much to hope Reeves and Starmer are putting the finishing touches to resignation speeches? Probably a bit longer…

Middlerage · Yesterday 19:13

Osborne otoh is of the firm view that the spending crisis is so bad that whoever comes in is inheriting hell and can’t commit much more on defence…

I was wondering. Seems to be taking a very long time compared to usual

Middlerage · Yesterday 19:21

Yes I wonder if Ed Balls had heard about the row, seems quite likely to me too.

Nuthatch26 · Yesterday 19:26

Al Carns has just told Cathy Newman that he will consider his position if No.10 don't make changes to the DIP.

Thanks, seems plausible. Starmer committed to the strategic defence review (which he requested) publicly, both here and abroad. His reputation for being a good international statesman is now in tatters. He was lying to us, and our allies.
John was at the end of his tether,’ said one friend. ‘This isn’t some leadership bid – he is genuinely not interested in that. This is a guy who is a patriot first and who is not willing to defend a settlement that sells the country short.
‘Rachel has behaved appallingly. If anyone should go, it’s her. The fact that the PM is unwilling to stand up to her – and stand up for what’s right – on a matter of national security says it all about his premiership.’

Sorry for the formatting of my posts today. I am writing in paragraphs, but the spacing disappears when I post 🤷‍♂️

Did someone say Reeves was crying yesterday?

Did someone say Reeves was crying yesterday?

Someone said she looked a bit puffy/blotchy during PMQs yesterday, so timeline would fit with the “stand up row” story.

Yes @Parsley4321 thought she'd been crying again. It fits.

Yeh it fits. This is still on Starmer. He’s an absolutely terrible PM. His chancellor is on the edge of mental distress and he’s lost grip of his government.

What a bloody disaster they are.

boys3 · Yesterday 20:01

Healey’s PPS just resigned.

Pamela Nash - not that I knew her name before looking it up.

But worrying to see Sam Coates float Darren bloody Jones as a potential stand in.

Yep, and still he clings on. The turd that won't flush is very apt.

Darren Jones and Dan Jarvis names being floated. Do you think Jones is stupid enough to say yes to that?

He might, he has been loyal to Starmer, prepared to follow the party line to his own detriment ( pocket money) and he's ambitious enough to fall upwards without any regard for his capability.
