A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Reeves has the minions out to discredit Healey for having the wrong priorities and making clear they won't tolerate Healey's successor asking for more money.

Wow what arses they are.

The one thing that can be said for the rudderless and unprincipled leadership is that at least they look around to check where the wind is coming from. The worst are the "principled" ones complacently tanking the country.

Army broken, ppl beheaded on the streets, economy in the gutter ... and Labour is playing the leadership contest lyra in Makerfield while Belfast is burning, like they had all the time and the political future in the world.

Starmer was not the best, but it's not a matter of personality or leadership at this late stage of ideological denial. Refusing to see reality or accept voters' feedback about budget, taxes, welfare, col, net zero, immigration, justice, police, education, etc.

It took 14y, 1 Brexit and 1 pandemic for the Tories to get to this state of omnishambles, it took Labour 2 with the privilege of hindsight.

Full delulu.
They even lost MN this week.

Ah, so the moderates of Labour have had enough. However stuffed Starmer was before, he’s air-fried now.

I’d love to know what the Labour groupies have to say. I’d guess…that Healey is a fascist - FASCIST! - and that Burnham will make everything good. 🤦‍♀️

It looks like the Rwanda plan was ahead of its time. Foolish of Labour to scrap it.

Inability to read the room has been one of the many failings of Labour since they were elected.

CaveMum · Yesterday 15:27

TRIP are going Live at 4pm to talk about Healey’s resignation.

i know they’re not everyone’s cup of tea, but Rory has been banging the “we need more downtown defence” drum for ages and is a big Al Carn’s fan.

A Bootneck running the country is exactly what we need right now, even a Labour one 😜

Nuthatch26 · Yesterday 15:31

Rumours abound that Al Carns will also resign later today.

Yes I heard that.
How is Reeves still in post when John Healey isn't?

An MP off record said Reeves should have gone not Healey to Times.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · Yesterday 15:41

Healey going now is more damaging for Starmer - and prospectively Burnham - than any of the recent chaos has been. The Labour middle and right can see that the left’s social policy agenda is economic and electoral suicide. Defence needs money, policing and prisons need money. Welfare and the NHS do not need money. But Labour backbenchers cannot swallow that. Nor can the charity and NGO industry.

Democracy is working. Just not in a way that the screechy left approves of.

Yep. I was reminded yesterday of when the Irish govt were complaining that the prospect of Rwanda was pushing up numbers to ROI instead.

Why don't the EU want all these migrants anyway? Theyre all doctors and engineers aren't they? 🤔😂

It sounds like Healey is solid and well liked. That’ll really be an issue for Starmer and Reeves.

Yes same. He is being praised by everybody from all parties, and internationally too. Just shows how useless Bollard is to let JH go. Idiot.

I hope there isn’t a successor. Can’t imagine they are all beating a path to be the new defence secretary

They can't leave it open can they? Its too important a job to have an empty seat. Perhaps they're all drawing straws. 😬
I doubt it will be anyone with an armed forces background now. Ex military won't touch it with a barge pole after this.

I suppose they can’t, silly comment of mine really. I just hope it isn’t easy for Starmer finding a replacement.

Agree it won’t be anyone with a military background.

No not silly at all. I wouldn't be surprised by anything with this lot!
Its been a few hours now and still no new defence sec. Who would be stupid enough to take it after this, when they know there isn't enough money on the table to look our armed forces in the face? If Starmer finds more money for the new defence sec, he will look ridiculous for not doing so before Healey resigned.

I think his hands are hopelessly tied. He can’t take from welfare or the backbenchers will force him out.
