Labour isn't Working - Thread 34

A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

There was a poster saying on MN, to approval of some on the thread, that these men are rapists and they are going to rape some woman, regardless of whether it was here or in their own country. As if they didn't give a shit that our country has failed to keep out rapists who arrived on boats, throwing out their passport and attached criminal record on the way through. It took my breath away. As if we could take one for the team and they just didn't care.

Edited

So utterly depressing. What’s going on I just can’t

Easy collateral for what? Just no

justasking111 · 10/06/2026 21:41

Caught a northern Ireland interview today. Someone who knows Ogilvie. Apparently he knows the attacker and three other immigrants because he spent four days helping them move furniture into their new abode. He's partially deaf with other health challenges but a very kind man.

Nuthatch26 · 10/06/2026 21:43

Well obviously we are all "far-right" bandwagon jumpers. 🙄

OH Starmer wants the law changed so scenes like the attacks on people, violence generally will be banned on social media. He's after MuskX again.

LupaMoonhowl · 10/06/2026 21:46

Am sitting here in my garden just thinking how incredibly lucky I am that my sons (who live in London) are (so far) not victims of this appalling lawlessness on the streets.
But I don’t turn my phone off at night any more.

Iran doesn’t let people see their violence online either.

Because their sons could so easily be my sons.
I don’t have daughters - but gosh - really feeling for those who do..

EasternStandard · 10/06/2026 21:50

Is it real the banning videos thing?

Rather than ensure no one is stabbed in the eyes or decapitated on the street just block it

Just gtf with this

I've seen suggestions that Starmer is keen to clamp down on the use VPNs. Even China allows the use of VPNs (I visited last year). For a human rights lawyer. Starmer has very authoritarian instincts. Or maybe the two things aren't opposed at all, he is after all part of the section of society that sees themselves as superior to the plebs, and thinks their opinions better ignored. Or possibly even better, suppressed.

More than 100 independent schools have closed since the policy was adopted in January 2025, according to the Independent Schools Council, including 15 that were merged with other institutions.

Labour MPs will be rubbing their hands with glee at this news. Do you think they have a WhatsApp group which celebrates every time another private school closes?

Indeed the Labour mp on politics live today did just that. Also trotted out the Labour lines to perfection

So we could have information suppressed, the majority of RoW can see stuff but not us

I’ll have to do what authoritarian countries do and ask for info from family o/s

Fuck that

Who is saying that @Nuthatch26?

I'm beginning to think people don't have a fucking clue what they mean when they say far right... far right because I know there's two sexes in 2024, and far right because I object to piss poor porous borders in 2026, wonder what my crime will be next year?

It's always far right, isn't it? If you cannot debate the issue then tar people with your worst insults. I won't be silenced for my run of the mill observations and opinions. The thing about not being encultured into an ideology is that I'm not aiming for conformity. I can think and say all kinds of things and judge them against my core values and not somebody else's.

DH said today it's like the Nazis, they suppressed information. During the war much was under a D notice. Two MPs years ago partial to army cadets caused an internal scandal. A D notice was issued on that. Nowadays we have super injunctions but they're painfully expensive.

Yep. Bollard would do anything other than resolve the actual issues.

A week to go until the by-election. Just let him be gone due to that.

Yebbut I heard Wallace Millipede has cosied up to the labour contender, whispering advice on the downlow. Which does concern me.

Nuthatch26 · 10/06/2026 22:29

@Upstartled

Who is saying that?

Keir Starmer said those who were calling for an inquiry into grooming gangs were "jumping on the far right bandwagon" (Jan '25).
I've been labelled far right many times on MN too.

Agree with your post above.

LupaMoonhowl · 10/06/2026 22:32

Yes there are numerous D notices in the MSM and they adhere to them.
Have a friend who worked for The Sun who used to tell me all the stories they couldn’t print. Enlightening! 😂
Because the little people who vote for these people can’t be ctrusted to know what’s going on.
Now thanks to X it’s all out there.
So of course they want to suppress it.
But we do have the right to know!

I've never been much of a fan of Elon Musk over the years, but X is the only place really that ordinary people can actually find out what's happening. So I guess inevitably it will get targeted by our authoritarian elite.
.
And then we can all live happily ever after in our progressive dystopian bubble, ignorant of anything bad happening. Like Brave New World, but without the drugs and fun.

SapphireCasino · 10/06/2026 22:48

Not sure if this is already been mentioned

The office of the IRTL has said that immigration needs to be treated as security issue. No shit Sherlock.

they have said that we must assess specific countries and reasons as a whole rather than evaluating applicants as individuals it sounds to me like he's advocating a more American approach, which I obviously would've said ages ago.

Apparently, they also raise the point about some of the people seeking asylum having been through stuff that they should be not able to bring into this country

Why is it Joe public knows this stuff before the authorities do?

I guess as they are technically independent, Starmer will ignore the report

Also today, as far as I can see, someone went missing from a prisoner transport van in South London and also somebody ran away from their court hearing - how do these things even happen?

Someone has put up two pictures of the victim in his hospital bed on X. I hope to god he's well sedated he looks like a patchwork quilt 😞

Noodledog · 10/06/2026 23:12

Reading the Times website, it looks like Labour are prioritising updating the Online Safety Act in order to clamp down on X. Obviously the Times website has shut down comments on all the articles relating to anything about what is happening in Belfast, and isn't allowing discussion about this either.

People having free access to information and freedom of speech wasn't around for long in the UK, and it looks like it's already over.
