A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Another embarrassing performance by Keir. Always harping back to the Tories, but unable to own up to any of Labour’s achievements other than to how his government is correcting mistakes made by previous governments. No achievements but nevertheless claiming he is better than previous incumbents because he is in government. And he trumpets this at PMQ’s !!

Completely agree, and well said Noodle. But, where do we go from here ? It looks like it’s kicking off again tonight in Belfast. No one in their right mind can want any unrest again! The marching season is coming up soon. What happened with the Sudanese assailant was beyond despicable. He should be dealt with by a legal system without any kind of prejudice ( and NO positive discrimination ) But… I suspect various groups are using this for their own gains ( and I say this, even though I am NOT a Labour supporter ) I’m so depressed we have no one lead us on this

Yes, spot on.
Whilst there is a vacuum of leadership (aka Bollard), bad actors and those who wish to exploit will step in.
It's also pushing people further to the right.

Kemi has been brilliant this week, but she's not the PM.

She has, such a shame she’s not PM. She’s pretty much one woman ing politics rn.

Who else is there? They should all just say you do it, we as mediocre men cannot.

If only eh?

She's had loads of coverage and airtime this week, because she stepped up and spoke sense.

I know. If his behaviour and rhetoric this week don't seal Starmer's fate, I don't know what it will take.

Event already organised for Friday to announce the defence investment plan. DIP announcement now delayed AGAIN. Starmer and Healy will still attend the planned event, but they'll talk about drones instead according to Times journos. WTAF! Embarrassing.

AlternativeView · 10/06/2026 20:40

Article by a KC in the times migrants indivudal rights v "collective UK safety".
The laws rub up against each other.

Another KC on the radio Andrew marr suggested we somehow asses the psychological needs of the migrants ? ..and get them help

I knew someone a Brit , schizophrenic undiagnosed, lost her daughter and home and job because she went into a fantasy land.
Thwre was no help.

No help !!

She somehow got herself abroad and it was in a different country that they sectioned her and got her the help she needed. She got sent back here and is now being monitored and helped more .

What planet are these people on. We do not have the resources to help our own and cost of that ,daughter into care and all sorts ?
I'm sorry we don't have the money to fund people abroad to get help like that .1

Nuthatch26 · 10/06/2026 20:42

From Sky:
The Home Office will intensify immigration enforcement in Northern Ireland in the wake of the stabbing in Belfast, a government source has told Sky News.It is understood that the government will increase its efforts to detain, arrest and remove illegal migrants in Northern Ireland.

They need to change the laws as well on asylum and migration as the times KC said they rub against each other and we come first
We must only take the most vulnerable people ie women and children and that's it.

Agree.

I read that piece in The Times that you mention. I didn't know what to make of it tbh. I can perfectly understand your take, and agree with it. But I wondered if he was also tentatively suggesting that UK govt need to admit and accept that men from certain countries carry a higher risk? And that current laws don't allow that? Perhaps I read it wrong.

Sorry, just read your second post where you say the same as above.

So sad. Bastards.

I think I read that the latest figures on pupils was a loss of 30,000 less than two years in.
Govt expected to lose 37,000 in the long term.
How does this benefit anybody anywhere? Its crazy.

I completely agree with only accepting women and children. I don't really understand why so many on the left are so staunch in their support of the current system. An asylum system should be about offering shelter to the most vulnerable, otherwise what the hell is it for?

The current system is a bizarre fight to get to the UK- once here you'll probably to get to stay, ironically particularly if you're from one of the countries that are so overrepresented in sexual and violent crime statistics. It obviously favours young, strong, aggressive men with enough money to pay the people smugglers. It basically operates as an anti-asylum system. Only the least vulnerable profit from it. And so many people are so vociferous in supporting it, it is totally illogical.

I’m so sad about this. Such a poor, spiteful policy. All the rest is terrible but using education like this is the absolute pits.

Nuthatch26 · 10/06/2026 21:09

@Noodledog Yep, agree.
The system we have actively discriminates against women and children, yet is supported by those who claim to care the most. Why? It doesn't make sense.

More than 100 independent schools have closed since the policy was adopted in January 2025, according to the Independent Schools Council, including 15 that were merged with other institutions.

Labour MPs will be rubbing their hands with glee at this news. Do you think they have a WhatsApp group which celebrates every time another private school closes?

Definitely. I bet Bridget pops a balloon every time one falls. Spiteful £%*@%

@LupaMoonhowl "you mustn’t feel you will inconvenience your friends if you ask them to check on you, if that makes you feel safer."

they're not really friends they are acquaintances, unfortunately that's all I have, apart from one actual friend who doesn't live near so we meet in the day anyway. Made it very clear that they don't want to do it and think I'm being ridiculous so better just not to go out in the evening. I am debating bothering with them at all but isolation really gets to you.

Sorry that's why I was getting upset. Not having anyone is a really hard place to be. It sounds like you're one of the posters who doesn't know me well, so please don't offer well meaning advice about trying to change my life. I'm tired of trying.

One thing about this shit times is at least I don't feel missing much because the mood out there is probably not good?

Back to politics

I saw Trevor Phillips speaking about what a lot of people have been through before they arrive in the country. This was awhile ago. I don't know what his view is now. He seems like a rational person. But a lot of what he described was pretty awful and my first thought was "that's exactly why we can't take people like that in this country". They have seen terrible things and they may have participated in terrible things - but isn't that exactly how you end up with a man trying to behead somebody in the street. We can't sacrifice our own country because other people are having massive difficulties.

AlternativeView · 10/06/2026 21:15

@SapphireCasino this is seeping into general conversations now ie ...these angry young men have sadly of course, but nonetheless witnessed and perhaps been raised and even taken part in extreme violence.
And the ripple effects of their violence here not only hurts the victims and their wider circle but us a country when people start to riot.

There was a poster saying on MN, to approval of some on the thread, that these men are rapists and they are going to rape some woman, regardless of whether it was here or in their own country. As if they didn't give a shit that our country has failed to keep out rapists who arrived on boats, throwing out their passport and attached criminal record on the way through. It took my breath away. As if we could take one for the team and they just didn't care.

I think I remember that post. Sometimes posts make me so angry that I just don't bother to engage, as I know I'll just get deleted and when someone is so vile, it doesn't seem worth trying. I don't report posts though, as I think it is better to let them stand so people can see the brain rot and sheer nastiness affecting some on the left.

Upstartled · 10/06/2026 21:24

Same. I just let those posts sit in their own shame forevermore.
