Which little luxuries are worth spending a bit more on?

Hi all!

As the title says - what are the little luxuries that are worth spending a bit more on for you? Just little bits that make you feel more intentional, I like a thin silk scrunchie for my hair instead of a normal hair band. It just makes me feel a bit put together.

Does anyone else:
a) agree with at least 85% of all previous posts and
b) wonder if this kind of lifestyle creep is how Elton John ended up with weekly flower bills in the £1000s?

Yes! I’ve started thinking that I have very expensive taste and on the other hand very egged on by the brands recommended and thinking I’ll copy everyone else on the stuff I’ve missed 😂

What i’ve learnt from this thread is that i should probably try this president butter stuff

Noooo, buy some lovely UK butter. We need to support our dairy farmers bangs gavel 😁.

I thought of another one Neals Yard bath salts. They smell amazing and a little goes a long way.

foundation, if that’s good everything else works. I use Victoria Beckham the drops, horrible price point and worth every penny.

coffee, we have a bean to cup machine, and you do really notice the difference when staying at a mates and get a cup of instant. The downside is I have to make so many when folks stay with me. Heavy initial investment but cost of the beans is fine,

lipstick, cheap stuff you need to constantly re apply.

bedding and bed linen, we replaced our duvets with goose down and got big hotel pillows and 1000 count Egyptian cotton sheets, again, you can tell the difference immediately when staying somewhere else.

Twice yearly private comprehensive blood tests.
The over the counter style finger prick ones are not accurate.
SLS free shampoo and nice conditioner.
Bread from the bakery.
Nice feeling underwear.

What are the comprehensive ones called please and where do you get them done?

You spend a third of your life in bed. Good bedding is worthwhile.

What bedding do you recommend?

I get mine from bedding envy, pricy but so so worth it. Washes really well as well, they have 50% off just now ☺️

Skincare - microneedling and Medik8 products .

Which microneedling device do you use?

High quality bedding. And I mean everything - mattress, pillows, quilt, bed linen.

Top quality garlic, not bleached shite Chinese shit from the supermarket.

Liquorice.

Body lotion for a day you want to smell nice and it last all day. Better than perfume I find.

Butter and cheese.

Personal training from a professional boxer to properly learning to box, rather than stupid 'boxercise' classes aimed at women.

Edited

Where do you get your garlic from please? I've been looking for quality garlic

For me i would say skincare mainly, bedding, good quality furniture as it's not something replaced often

But French and Spanish garlic are also incredible if you're ever in that neck of the woods.

We always end up bringing back garlic from the continent. Love those giant cloves in the equally giant heads of garlic.

I just thought of another, genuinely everyday, luxury. I'm picky about pencils. Not even drawing pencils - just the ones you buy every so often to give your children or have around the house. Writing pencils. Life is too short to buy shitty no-name HB pencils whose leads break whenever you try to sharpen them. I want a decent wooden pencil, with wood and graphite that takes sharpening with a scalpel beautifully. So I only ever buy the yellow and black striped Staedtler pencils (usually in multiple packs). There you go - affordable yet discerning. An everyday little luxury.

This thread is causing me to head off to Waitrose today to buy some posh French butter for my wanky bakery-purchased sourdough. Grin

Near enough. Most of the previous six books have been published either in September or October. The Ink Black Heart was out at the end of August.

DandelionClockSeeds · Yesterday 17:05

@Littlepiggietoes can I just say thank you for the scrunchie suggestion. My head is much happier today - hair needs to be vack for work, and off my neck currently for heat. And those scrunchies hold my hair up, without heedingvto be really tight. I never got on with the coiled springs, but these are fab.

WhatHappenedToYourFurnitureCuz · Yesterday 17:09

Expensive moisturiser. I bought cheap ones for years, thinking they're all basically the same. Then I got a sample of one that's £65 a pot and stopped getting spots almost immediately.

Paperbacks instead of e-books. Completely different reading experience.

Coffee shop coffee. Haven't found any I can make at home that I enjoy as much as a flat white from a certain chain.

thinkingaboutipswich · Today 11:23

Blow dry at the hair dressers every other week.

Thats just given me a memory of living at home and my dad sharpening my makeup pencils for me Grin
he’s visiting today, I might get him to do my eyeliners. Way better than a pencil sharpener

Redken Shampoo and conditioner
M&S fruit and veg
Meat from the Butchers or Farm Shop
Good quality shoes
Korean skincare
Getting my nails done every month
Green & Blacks chocolate
Good wine
Meaco fan (saved me in this heatwave!)
Really good noise cancelling headphones
Stanley travel coffee mug (the only genuinely dishwasher safe and 100% leak proof mug I've ever found out of the many I've tried)

justasking111 · Today 12:50

My yeti mugs have been dishwasher proof so far

fouroclockrock · Today 14:16

I had no idea that garlic is bleached.

MyChicGoldQuail · Today 18:05

Staedtler pencils — yes! Never thought of that as a luxury but you're completely right, the cheap ones are infuriating 😂 Also adding proper kitchen knives to my list. Once you've used a decent sharp knife you genuinely cannot go back to hacking at things with a wobbly supermarket one.
