Which little luxuries are worth spending a bit more on?

Hi all!

As the title says - what are the little luxuries that are worth spending a bit more on for you? Just little bits that make you feel more intentional, I like a thin silk scrunchie for my hair instead of a normal hair band. It just makes me feel a bit put together.

Kevin Murphy hair products. Ethically sourced, sulphate, paraben and cruelty free and all packaging recyclable. Expensive but gorgeous.

Proper hand made chocs from Kennedy last time

idontknowhowtodreamyourdreams · 27/05/2026 23:04

Great coffee
Lovely bars of soap

msmillicentcat · 27/05/2026 23:09

Bedding, sheets need to be 100% cotton and at least 200 thread count. I also invested in a wool mattress topper and duvet a couple of years back and this was definitely worth every penny.
Organic milk, real butter, sourdough from the local bakery and meat from the butcher. Locally roasted coffee.
Scented candles, good skincare, makeup and hair care.
Winter coats, stylish and warm.
Cozy mugs and Yorkshire tea. Porcelain or china tableware. Nice kitchen storage.
Basically everything!

Kew liquid soap
Chanel No 5 every day, even though it’s just me at home all day
Gousto boxes every week, so I have a varied, interesting diet
A Herman Miller office chair
Padded hangers for all jumpers
Parker Knoll sofas

I'm home alone all day too, and feel I can't justify using my expensive perfumes! So I use up the ones that don't smell like when they were new, are a bit manky, but are still OK.

Ok a mattress isn’t a small luxury, but then neither is a holiday in Barbados 😎

Nor is business class I guess but it’s an absolute non negotiable for us these days

what do you mean by "make you feel more intentional" ??

I've just read about scrunchies, loo roll and crap butter so I have no idea what the intention is

Mostlywilliow · 27/05/2026 23:23

Local ( as close as possible) honey.

A mattress - we spent £3k on a Hypnos mattress. You spend a full third of your life in bed. If it lasts 8 years that’s about 50p each a night.

Would also vote for Hypnos

It’s the intangibles for me.

Exercise classes
Good haircut
Skin treatments (hydrafacials, RF microneedling, etc.)
Supplements
Good diet

Intangibles? Very much tangible they are.

MisunderstoodWitch · 27/05/2026 23:31

Korres lemon and basil shower gel!

justasking111 · 27/05/2026 23:31

Quality cotton bedding.
Marriott pillows duck and goose feather.
Carpeting and karndean.
Cleaner
Private healthcare insurance.

LittleEsme · 27/05/2026 23:34

Viba shoes
My favourite moisturiser
Nikura Essential oils
L’Occitaine Almond range
Steak from my local Butcher

Nesti Dante bars of soap
Bread - we are in Surrey and get sourdough, brioche burger buns and french flutes delivered from Sussex Kitchen
Milk - organic milk + cream from outstanding local dairy less than a mile away
Butter - Isigny Saint-Mere
Music on Vinyl
Meat - massive carnivore and BBQ enthusiast so buy a lot of good quality meat from local farm shop and online specialists
Agree with others on shoes - spend £400 but then have them resoled and keep them for 15 years
Knives - my favourite are hand crafted by an independent in Forest Row (Two Sticks Forge)

$400 shoes do not accumulate sweat and can be worn for 15 years?

A good moisturiser and cleanser. I really do feel the difference with more expensive brands and my skin looks brighter too

I am intrigued by this as I have tried some extremely expensive (for me!) brands and been very underwhelmed. Had my very wealthy parents get me them as gifts and did not notice a difference over a couple of years.

tachetastic · 27/05/2026 23:43

Taxis. Not every day, but I travel a lot for work and for years I spent hours on foreign public transport to get to the airport. My work doesn't cover the cost of taxis but I feel that after 30+ years of work I deserve a pleasant journey.

Borrowerdale · 27/05/2026 23:53

Salt and Pepper grinders, pencil sharpeners, kettles, handbags, fitted libraries, campervans….

GlomOfNit · 27/05/2026 23:53

I mean, I agree with most of this - but do virtually none of it! Grin I get bog-standard salted butter, supermarket own-brand. I won't have polycotton bedding in the house but I'm also not spending silly money on it. But I do get the point of spending more on that sort of thing.

But - designer make-up? I have never been to Barbados or, indeed, any '5 star' location, and I'm really happy about that. I don't crave luxe holidays and hotels would make me feel uncomfortable, as well as being massively unsuitable for our family situation.

I thought this thread was about everyday luxuries, not 800 thread count Egyptian cotton and exclusive holidays...

If I buy sourdough, I'm a bit of a wanker about it so it has to be from one of 2 or 3 local bakeries that really make it well. The whole family loves it and £3.75 is extremely reasonable for the best sourdough I've had outside Portugal. There you are - an affordable luxury in the original spirit of this thread. Wink

I get Maldon salt too. Grin

Gymnopedie · 27/05/2026 23:56

Loo paper and hand cream.

BuddhaAtSea · 28/05/2026 00:00

Everything. Even my pencils. Absolutely everything. I’m too poor to buy cheap.
