Is it an 11 egg omelette too much?

Would you say an 11 egg omelette, roughly 3 times per week, is a lot/too much for 1 person?

It depends. 11 eggs is around 800 calories.
for a large man who exercises, that’s not gluttony as someone has said here. Most fast food burgers have more calories and you don’t see people complaining about that!

Why stop at 11, and leave a single egg in the box? Is the single egg for you?

If this is what the argument was about and he had 11 eggs so you couldn't say he'd eaten all the eggs then you have a point. Obviously he needs to take part in meal planning and shopping so enough eggs for everyone are bought. But that doesn't need to be expensive. We get the mixed size free range eggs that most supermarkets sell for £1.50 a box so this meal would be under £3.

But throwing it away was a ridiculous reaction. What a waste of food.

On the pans, if I want to make a big omelette I make it in a roasting tray in the oven, that usually has 8 eggs but also loads of veg and isn't that thick so I could probably do 11 eggs with not quite as much veg.

Really? ‘My wife eats at least 33 eggs a week, is this a lot?’ would be a controlling question? Every day’s a school day.

I don't think asking the question is controlling, but throwing away the food he's cooked for himself isn't great.

mindutopia · 09/05/2026 04:59

I use about 9-10 eggs to make an omelette for us as a family of 4 for dinner. 😂 11 would literally kill me. That’s like competitive eating, going to get a bowel perforation level eating.

HoppingPavlova · 09/05/2026 05:13

Yes, no idea how one person eats an 11 egg omelette to themselves. I sometimes make scrambled egg as main meal if I’m late on shopping and no meat and not much in fridge, and my rule of thumb is a dozen eggs will generally feed 5 people for a main meal, or 6 if I serve it on toasted sourdough, and I use more or less eggs depending on the number of heads home to feed that night.

Rozendantz · 09/05/2026 05:27

Im 100% certain that if a woman posted that she ate some random thing each day that was a bit odd/OTT, but it wasn't unhealthy and harmed nobody and that her DH didnt want her to eat eat it, so he threw it in the bin, she'd be told to leave him. Op, you sound abusive - let the man eat what he wants!

Up early this morning and came here to see if there was an update haha

This whole post is so weird! Who asks MN for advice on their DHs egg consumption and then freaks out on the DH based on that (mostly bad) advice?

It's so bizarre!!!

I think I had 3 eggs, yesterday. Might have 4 today. See how the day goes.

I'm on coffee 2.

kkloo · 09/05/2026 05:34

Laura36TTC · 08/05/2026 22:45

Absolutely ridiculous! My husband (who is a big man) usually has a 2 egg omelette or 3 eggs if he is extra hungry

And I'm a slim woman and I would regularly eat 4 a day or most days, until I get the egg ick, then I wouldn't touch them for months, then I get the craving again.

Shubedodo · 09/05/2026 05:34

@ShakyBake my ex would regularly eat 11 eggs as a scrambled mix. It was convenient i guess. He would eat very little for the rest of the day. He was very much a food is fuel person and in excellent shape.

kkloo · 09/05/2026 05:35

Why did you throw them in the bin?

Is it because he eats the eggs that are meant for everyone or is to try to control the amount of eggs he eats because you think it's too much?

If I were him I'd be fuming if it was the latter.

Tashface · 09/05/2026 05:45

I am so annoyed on behalf of that poor last egg left behind in the box

EggCustardTart · 08/05/2026 23:56

12, which is why the OP's dh stopped at 11... to avoid an egg-based existential crisis?

Surely that would be an eggsistential crisis.

shrunkenhead · 09/05/2026 06:08

I can't get past the number! 10 or 12, surely?!
I physically couldn't eat that many in one sitting! Eggs are really filling. I occasionally have some hard Boiled eggs in the fridge for a quick snack but couldn't eat more than 2.
I could make a fritatta with 10 eggs but would slice it up and have a piece cold with salad for lunch. Eggs are also quite pricey in my book, as is meat and fish.
I know everyone's banging on about the importance of protein but this does seem a bit much. I'm guessing if he's healthy and it's affordable then he should crack on!

Yes, poor little Egbert. Don't you want to give him a coddle? Poached from his mother when only hours old now left alone and afried by his eggbox family. Don't be sad little Egbert, being an omelette is not all it's cracked up to be.

Glowingup · 09/05/2026 06:49

taybert · 08/05/2026 22:17

I don’t care about the macros or comparing it to other forms of protein or if he’s a bodybuilder. An 11 egg omelette just isn’t decent. Too many eggs. End of discussion.

Not decent? What does that mean?

Everlore · 09/05/2026 06:51

It does sound like a lot to me but, really, it is not a big deal, each to their own. An Omelette is a perfectly healthy choice of meal, so what if it is a bumper version! I had no idea omelette size was so contentious but, apparently, it can be! A friend of mine saw me having a two egg omelette, which I thought was a pretty normal size portion, and said she would want at least four eggs in an omelette. This was, however, less surprising to me than another family member who seemed shocked by us using two eggs for an omelette as she said she only uses one. Does anyone else really only make an omelette with one egg, this seemed odd to me!
What I am saying is, your omelette, your way! Enjoy it!

CupcakeDreams · 09/05/2026 06:52

Glowingup · 09/05/2026 06:49

Not decent? What does that mean?

We drink filtered water and only eat organic air here, didn't you know? 😝

LadyMinerva · 09/05/2026 06:53

Thats not an omelette, thats a quiche.

sallymonella · 09/05/2026 06:56

ShakyBake · 08/05/2026 22:04

I'll update tomorrow as showed him this post (I know, I know) and had a blazing row and I've chucked the omelette in the bin and gone round to a friend. I'll update tomorrow

Were you the one cooking the omelette then? Why did you chuck it in the bin based on a Mumsnet thread?

I'm curious to know the whole story now, because this sounds either controlling or batshit, depending on whose omelette it was.

For reference, I personally couldn't eat 11 eggs in one sitting, but I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with it.

I’m not sure I’ll sleep tonight.

eggactly, I mean excatly 😂😂

imagine if I have read this last night. The eggcitment , I mean excitement would have meant no sleep 😂😂😂

tho 11 is a lot

i was told last year that having a 3 egg omelette was greedy 🙀🙀🙀🙀

didgeridid · 09/05/2026 07:02

Gaston and the fact you don't know who he is🤣
11 eggs 🤣
3ft frying pan 🤣
You threw it in the bin and stormed out 🤣

This is a brilliant thread

Safarisagoody · 09/05/2026 07:08

What am I reading, you think he should change his eating habits due to random strangers on the internet, then had a blazing argument and threw his food out? Ans someone bizzarely said he’s the issue?

id bet good money some of the folks saying it’s not ok are overweight or obese and sitting downing wine or eating crisps or other crap as they respond.

the real issue here is the very high level of cholesterol, so I’d have that vhevked if I was him.

Absolutely nuts!

Gaston....😂😂

CDTC · 09/05/2026 07:13

I mean it's not ideal from a cholesterol point of view but why did this end up in a blazing row? Why did you throw his omelette in the bin? Asking advice is okay but why are you telling him what he can and can't eat?
