My new job is slowly destroying me .. what can I so? I’m so desperate.

My new job on paper sounded ideal to me. In a category I really enjoy, big global recognisable firm, good salary.

I’ve been there 6 weeks. It’s pretty much fully remote, my entire team is in a different country so even if I wanted to go into the office I’d be alone, there is literally no work to do.

I just can’t do it, I live alone and I don’t want to be sat in my house 24/7, I don’t want to sit staring at a screen with nothing to do, it’s 2am and I don’t want to sleep as it means I’ll be waking up to another day of nothing …

I WFH exclusively and I LOVE it but then I hate people so this is ideal.
My job has got busy now but I preferred it when it was dead. I used the time to do house chores, watch shows, rearrange things etc. I still fit washing and vacuuming in and I love being able to get jobs done while being paid.
Work don't care what we do as long as work is getting done and I'm only doing my own jobs when we have quiet periods.

I'd be using the time to do whatever is a burden on your own time so your own time is full of more fun things.

But the OP doesn't want to do chores 8 hours a day. She wants work which gives her purpose and a level of social interaction. How is it so difficult for some of you to understand? It's not about what you want but what OP needs.

I know that the OP is gone, but this reminds me of an old thread. Same topic, but a very different tone.

Basically the OP had a nothing job. Well paid, but nothing to do. They hated it and asked if others had experienced the same. Just about every poster had had such a job said how soul destroying it was.

I took from it that we need to feel useful and that we contributing to something greater than ourselves. In reality, writing a book and learning a language, while taking money didn't seem to be an option that anyone on that thread took.

Throw in the different working conditions to what was promised in the interview - no wonder the OP is unhappy. And no wonder they got annoyed with being told to get on with and be grateful.

I think I know the thread you mean. In times gone by, we'd be able to see the fruits of our labour (sometimes literally), things we'd made, cooked, created.

My job is for a big company. I am basically being paid a pittance to make someone else rich. I might be able to cope with that if I LIKED what the company did and believed in its ethos but I don't.
Its one saving grace is there's so little to do that I have time to work on side businesses, do my housework, even faff about having bits of 'me time'. I basically get paid for 8 hours but do about 2 hours actual work, answer the phone a couple of times, write a few reports. I try to redeem my destroyed soul in other ways.
