I really fancy my dentist

He's my age, really good looking and just a really nice person. I feel like we have chemistry. I know I might sound a bit delusional. Is there a way I could ask him out? How would I do this? He's ringing me next week about my treatment. Obviously I would need to find a new dentist and/or dental practice but I'd be okay to do that. Its just rare that you feel genuine chemistry and connection with someone.

I think you have to change dentist first.

It isn't fair to put him in that position otherwise.

BillieWiper · 23/04/2026 11:53

No that would be appallingly embarrassing. Of course you've got 'chemistry'; he's got a good bedside manner. And he's good looking. But he's very unlikely to feel it appropriate to date clients and he's also very unlikely to be single.

And you don't know him. The time you spend with him is you not being able to speak and him rummaging in your mouth. Maybe three times a year? It's not like the basis for a passionate sexual relationship really?

We get on so well and we've talked about all sorts.

Sometimes you just feel chemistry - and so what if it's embarrassing?

I think OP is brave for wanting to ask, and good for her.

But she does need to officially change dentists first or he won't be able to give her a straight answer regardless of his interest.

Are you sure he isn't in a relationship though?

bugalugs45 · 23/04/2026 11:56

I’ve got a crush on my vet , in fact I always ask to see him because ‘ my dog likes him ‘ , lies I tell you 🤣
and I may or may not have stalked him on Facebook , wasn’t much on there though 😬

Yeah but he's like that with all his clients. Because he's nice. And he's good looking so you're seeing more to it. I mean at least subtly find out if he's single or not. But honestly I wouldn't go there.

Would you be happy to keep seeing him professionally if he rejected your advances and was possibly a bit shocked or offended?

deserthighway · 23/04/2026 12:06

I don't think a handsome, financially solvent, easy to talk to dentist is very likely to be single, sorry. Please don't ask.

I fancy my optician. I swear to you I have never seen anyone so attractive. He should and could be a model. He’s just a few years too young for me and I doubt he would give me a second glance. But I hear you op. I understand. 😆

TheyGrewUp · 23/04/2026 12:19

He's unattainable. Change dentists - find a woman or an ugly bloke and stop kidding yourself or being silly.

DontGoChasinWaterfalls · 23/04/2026 12:19

I think it would be unfair to place him in that position as a current patient. He's in a position of trust.
As a non patient, fill your boots!
Don't mean this to come across poorly but are you sure he finds you attractive and wants to pursue also????

SecretSquid · 23/04/2026 12:24

I understand, I do. But no.
There's an episode of Motherland where whatsherface has a crush on the plumber. Watch it and absorb the lesson.

That's true. If that wouldn't bother you and you wouldn't mind the brief embarrassment it might cause then I guess you may as well go for it. But to me I'd just not be able to handle that cringe factor. Of misinterpreting professionalism and pleasant convo for sexual interest.

Calliopespa · 23/04/2026 12:25

Letterstoyou · 23/04/2026 12:11

Get a new dentist first ... That's the better order of events here, because I think even if he feels exactly the same, his hands are tied while you are a patient.

LittleMissClutter · 23/04/2026 12:26

Obviously I would need to find a new dentist and/or dental practice but I'd be okay to do that.

Well let's hope it's a private practice and not NHS.

Your gums will shrive up while you're on the waiting list.

Have you tried running your tongue around his fingers when they're in your mouth?

🤣🤣🤣

LittleMissClutter · 23/04/2026 12:35

We had this exact same thread a few weeks ago but it was an Optician.

Not sure what the outcome was.

LifeOnTheVeg · 23/04/2026 12:36

It would be very unfair to put him in this position; testing his professionalism and embarrassing him at work.

If you’re determined to ask him out (are you absolutely sure he’s single??) then leave his practice and sign up with another dentist FIRST.

LittleMissClutter · 23/04/2026 12:43

I've just realised you're the OP of a thread I was on a couple of days ago, where you were asking if you should cancel a date.

Given everything you said about yourself on it (which was a hard read), I really don't think you'd be confident enough to change this from a dream to a reality.

I think if you're feeling frail, a (very likely) knock-back from your dentist could do more damage to your self-esteem.

So please be careful OP Flowers

Arcticbattle32 · 23/04/2026 12:45

I think you need to figure out if he’s single first? It could be super embarrassing. Maybe he’s just a nice friendly person to everyone, or maybe not!! I love this though. Keep us updated!!

AnotherOneDown · 23/04/2026 12:49

Really, said with support, just no.

Dentists, doctors, teachers, therapists of various kinds ... please don't. If you meet them when they are not working (cos they are friends of friends / you bump into them in the pub, match with them on an app) then fill your boots. But if you are feeling chemistry for them and you have met them in a professional capacity (as a patient/student rather than as a colleague): no, no, no, no, no.

Corvidsarethebest · 23/04/2026 12:53

I asked out my optician once, and he said yes and we went on a date. Then he went back to his ex, so it was only the one date! I sent a card thanking him for his help choosing my glasses with my phone number on it, with an offer of a coffee as a thank you.

I think with dentists, it's all a bit more delicate and I agree you probably would need to move practice, and find out if he's single.
