A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Excellent from Madeline Grant in the Speccie

That’s vg but ET still annoyed today, as if she was trying to catch out OR. Luckily she had no chance, he was on top of it. Unlike many in that room who couldn’t get it.

I’m no fan of Emily ‘Lady Nugee’ Thornbury, but she is not well disposed to Starmer and I didn’t think she soft-pedalled at all.

In fact I thought she was very good at getting at the most important points.

Unrivalled · 21/04/2026 17:12

Damning that former cab sec said wait for vetting results prior to appointment and KS didn’t - he does look like he’s all around pants.

i can’t entertain anything other than an Andy Burnham or Wes Streeting slug fest. They’re the only two with an ability to relate and the rest of the candidates have all failed and been tarnished in some significant way.

Yes I normally find her superior tone quite irritating but I think she doesn’t seem to have much time for Mandelson or Starmer. She didn’t come over time as trying to defend them.

Wonder if they'll want him gone before the Ukrainian boys arson case starts next week.

That is true. I found some interjections a bit much but small fry really compared to the actual crime, ie Starmer trashing someone’s long career and getting it wrong.

That's going to be tight! Blimey.
So that suggests a one seat majority for Reform in Wales?
Thanks for this.

What a day. I've just been catching up on the emergency debate as couldn't watch this afternoon.

Olly Robbins is the type of man that Starmer only pretends to be. Good on him for his performance today.

PMQs tomorrow 😬

Pat McFadden doubling down, backing Starmer. He doesn’t get the process either.

The Times writing today OR should get his job back. He should.

WaffleBomb · Yesterday 07:31

I'm not surprised at McFadden. I see Yvette Cooper is trying to distance herself now too. Funny, she agreed with Starmer sacking Robbins after losing confidence in him.

It was a huge mistake to mount Starmer's defence on vetting. Now they're backed into a corner.

Labour have lost The Mirror now too judging by today's front page.

From the front page of The Times this morning.

I'm in Wales, and would describe myself as centre right, although I have voted Labour in the past. I've never voted Reform but will do this time so that Plaid doesn't have majority. They are very much pro gender self ID, which I am very much against. It's a shame, I like our Conservative Senedd member, but he just won't get the votes.

Apparently there is a D-notice on those trials so the MSM won’t be reporting on it. Hopefully will be some info on X

Parsley4321 · Yesterday 07:50

What’s a d notice please

CandidLurker · Yesterday 07:52

I couldn’t help thinking though when I listened to Olly Robbins is that this needs a Business Analyst to actually map this process properly!

It seems like the vetting is simply an input to a subjective decision made higher up the chain. KS has chosen to leap on that “input” as his get out of jail card. I bet his staff were thrilled when that paperwork came to light as part of the humble address response. It gave them an instant defence for KS. and has obfuscated the fact it was his decision to push for Mandelson in the role. It was obviously a reward for something. Just like they were trying to find an Ambassador role overseas for that Matthew chap. For someone completely unqualified to do the job.

MelanzaneParmigiana · Yesterday 07:52

Olly Robbins just exposed that the civil service yields to external pressure /as if that is an excuse! What’s the point of the civil service if they just fold? Out on the c real world people are doing pressured jobs in far less cushy conditions /OR wouldn’t survive an hour of pressure doing the job the scaffolder on my house did yesterday!
He snivellingly hinted but gave no substance. And the sanctimonious reference to the Book of Common Prayer was cringey.
Stereotypical wannabe Sir Humphrey.

It’s amazing how people couldn’t get it, in the committee and Starmer plus McFadden still don’t get it.

KS got it wrong, he should step down and OR back in. If he has any decency.
