Would you recognise Bagpuss?

I, born 1970, have him on a Tshirt.

DS, born 2003, has no idea, fair enough.

But, BF, born 1977, swears he's never heard of him.

There's only 7 years between us, it feels like a generational gulf!

  1. Absolutely! And may have made my children watch him on YouTube..
FemBotinaManputerWorld · 16/04/2026 21:40

Born mid eighties. I only heard of bagpuss for the first time a few years ago from my aunt who loved him as a kid. This is the first time I’ve actually seen him.

GardenCovent · 16/04/2026 21:43

Born 1972 and yes would.
I can remember it being on tv at about 2pm, I think about the same time as Mr Ben

FoundAUserNameDownTheSofa · 16/04/2026 21:44

Born in 1974 and love Bagpuss but I wouldn’t recognise him because I watched in black and white and I thought he was ORANGE, not PINK!

FemBotinaManputerWorld · 16/04/2026 21:45

There’s a Bagpuss movie coming out next year for anyone who is interested.

It won't be the same 😭

DanceMumTaxi · 16/04/2026 21:45

Yes absolutely, born 1981.

asdbaybeeee · 16/04/2026 21:48

I’m same age as your bf, loved bagpuss. It was literally my favourite show.
Do either of you remember-
shoe people
raggy dolls
He man
Jem
Jamie and the magic torch
(these are eighties not seventies)

garlictwist · 16/04/2026 21:32

Born 1982. Never heard of it.

Him not it😁

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 16/04/2026 21:52

I know Bagpuss! Early 80s child.

My children, all teens, also know Bagpuss. We had a dvd of it when they were little. Actually I'm pretty sure ds1 got taken to a music of Bagpuss folk gig as a baby.

NeedToKnow101 · 16/04/2026 21:55

Born in 1970. Massive influence he was in my formative years.

Loved Bagpus born in 75

TinyHousemouse · 16/04/2026 21:58

Born in 1985, and I love him. Had loads of Bagpuss stuff as a teen. DD born in 2022 also knows who he is! We watch it together, she loves him too (she also really loves Old Bear and Friends, original Clangers and Button Moon ❤️) DH born 1978 knows who he is but never watched him. MIL born in the 1940s saw us watching it once and said “oh how lovely, it’s the saggy old catpuss” 🥹 so even she knows who he is!

Yep, all of them. Great kids TV.

OneBusyFinch · 16/04/2026 22:14

Of course! I adore Bagpuss and all the wonderful children’s programmes from the era. Agree with a pp that they really understood children’s developing brains and took them to a world of wonder.

did you know they’re turning him into a film? Hope they don’t fuck it up

Born 1970. I would have to go NC with anyone born before 1985 who didn’t know Bagpuss, couldn’t recite the beginning and the end, sing the song of the mice and name every character 🤣

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 16/04/2026 22:18

It’s also available to stream.

Did you know they only made 13 episodes? 😱

Additup · 16/04/2026 22:23

My children, youngest born 2008 all know and love Bagpuss because I made them watch old videos growing up.

DramaAlpaca · 16/04/2026 22:25

Mid-60s baby, so yes of course I know Bagpuss.

You are an amazing parent who has fulfilled their duty 😬

Listlostlast · 16/04/2026 22:27

aw I loved bagpuss! 1994 here 😅

ZenNudist · 16/04/2026 22:33

Born 78 and recognise bagpuss along with sister born 80. Brother born 85 I might have check if he knew bagpuss.

I have to say always found it boring. Preferred cartoons. Loved Dogtanian and the three muskihounds. Or the wuzzles. Or she-ra. Or the gummy bears. Or mysterious cities of gold. Or thundercats!

BauhausOfEliott · 16/04/2026 23:10

I was born in 1976 and I used to watch Bagpuss. I don’t anyone my age who doesn’t know Bagpuss!

purpleme12 · 16/04/2026 23:12

I would recognise him yes
Even though it was before my time
(Born 1985)
I'm sure my mum and dad told me about him and obviously I've seen the pictures of him and heard about Bagpuss
