Would you recognise Bagpuss?

I, born 1970, have him on a Tshirt.

DS, born 2003, has no idea, fair enough.

But, BF, born 1977, swears he's never heard of him.

There's only 7 years between us, it feels like a generational gulf!

1972 and yes, although I hated it as a child.

Squirrelchops1 · 16/04/2026 17:57

Born 77. Got one in my car.

WhatAMarvelousTune · 16/04/2026 17:57

I was born in 1992 and haven’t ever watched bagpuss, but would recognise a picture

SomethingSScintillating · 16/04/2026 17:57

Yes of course the high light of my day along with Heidi and a dolls house thing

bettyboo9 · 16/04/2026 17:58

I love bagpuss, my comfort place to go to

HappyToSmile · 16/04/2026 17:58

Yes (1974) and also a Yes from my DD (2007) as my mum got her a soft toy Bagpuss when she was little

Nomorecoconutboosts · 16/04/2026 17:58

Yes definitely
and Pipkins (but so many people don’t know what that is)

Funnywonder · 16/04/2026 17:59

I was born in 1967, so remember Bagpuss well. I loved everything about it except for those sodding helium voiced mice.

Usernamenotfound1 · 16/04/2026 17:59

Absolutely.

both by kids would as well as there was a bit of a retro resurgence in the early 00’s and there was a lot of merch around- blankets, cushions, pj cases etc.

i’m surprised a child born 03 wouldn’t recognise Bagpuss, especially a fan.

ConnieHeart · 16/04/2026 18:00

Definitely. Born 1973. Might be more of a girl thing

I know Pipkins! Hartley the Hare was nightmare fuel though, he looked like taxidermied roadkill.

cupfinalchaos · 16/04/2026 18:00

Every Sunday morning.

menopausalmare · 16/04/2026 18:01

Of course! He was a saggy old cloth cat, but Emily loved him.

cupfinalchaos · 16/04/2026 18:01

Born 1967

PolkaDotPorridge · 16/04/2026 18:01

I have a yawning Bagpuss toy which one DC has appropriated and a Bagpuss pint mug so both teen DCs know who he is.

Edited

I remember that! I think I had one. And a lovely pencil case. It made a bit of a resurgence in the late 90s I think.

Born mid-80s and remember sometimes seeing it on TV. I had a video of lots of episodes as well which I loved.

SerendipityCat · 16/04/2026 18:16

Hell, yes. I was 16, at Grammar School, and supposedly revising for my O-levels. Bagpuss had a surprising number of fans in my class, and I love it to this day. I still have the DVD in the back of the sideboard somewhere.

StressyMcStressFace · 16/04/2026 18:35

My daughter born in 2002 knows who it is even though she's never watched it

begonefoulclutter · 16/04/2026 17:29

I managed to get hold of a old videotape of Bagpuss and indoctrinated DD with it. That and Roobarb & Custard.😂

I have R&C on dvd 😆

tobee · 16/04/2026 19:05

“A friend of mine
a porcupine”

probably one of the best rhymes ever.

I have a knitted Bagpuss tea cosy

Error404FucksNotFound · 16/04/2026 19:06

Absolutely. Loved bagpuss
