Would you recognise Bagpuss?

I, born 1970, have him on a Tshirt.

DS, born 2003, has no idea, fair enough.

But, BF, born 1977, swears he's never heard of him.

There's only 7 years between us, it feels like a generational gulf!

Of course. I was born early 80s and DDs 2005 and 2007 both love Bagpuss. I prefer Button Moon though.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 16/04/2026 17:31

Yes - but then again I'd also recognise Pippin and Tog, as well as Mr. & Mrs. Pogle.

TeenToTwenties · 16/04/2026 17:32

Of course, born late 60s.
Dd born early new century would too as we got DVDs. See also Noggin the Nog

WotthehellMehitabel · 16/04/2026 17:39

'Emily loved him...' And so do I!

Born mid-60s, YY to Noggin the Nog, Pippin and Tog and the Pogles (though some of it not acceptable now)... Tales of the Riverbank...

UnaGatita · 16/04/2026 17:41

Apparently there were very few episodes made. I thought I watched it every week growing up - I definitely didn’t notice the repeats!!

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 16/04/2026 17:42

I’m 1976 and absolutely would.

ZiaMcnab · 16/04/2026 17:42

I can't believe someone born in 1977 hasn't even heard of that floppy old cloth cat! I'm basically the same age, and Bagpuss was such a key feature of my childhood. I even had a Bagpuss hot water bottle cover that I miss a great deal! Was your BF not brought up in the UK or something?! @Pandorea I don't think not having a TV would explain it if he is UK-bred! I didn't have a TV for a large portion of my childhood and I still found it often enough for it to be my favourite show (till I discovered Mr Ben anyway!)

Ooo, and now that cute little mouse song "We will find it, we will bind it..." is stuck in my head 🎶💕

Squirrelsnut · 16/04/2026 17:42

Oooh Charlie Mouse! Born 1970.

SilenceInside · 16/04/2026 17:44

Of course. It was my favourite programme as a very young child. I love Bagpuss. I am closer to your BFs age than your age.

Itsashipnotaboat · 16/04/2026 17:48

Born 1977, adored Bagouss! Had the bagpuss teddy and even a Bagpuss cake for my 18th I think 😂 not my choice, my mum was being sweet. I’ve introduced him to my 8 year old, so even she knows who he is

tiredandwrungout · 16/04/2026 17:48

I was born in 1980. I never watched it but it was on some retro stationery that was popular when I was a teenager.

TheBeaTgoeson1 · 16/04/2026 17:49

Yes, but wasn’t alive when he was a thing.

kohlrabislaw · 16/04/2026 17:50

topsecretcyclist · 16/04/2026 17:55

I was born 1976 and loved Bagpuss. My oldest was born in 1999 and watched it, and had a little Bagpuss toy. One of my other sons (born 2004) didn't really watch it, but recognised him recently.

LadyR77 · 16/04/2026 17:55

Born 1977 and grew up adoring Bagpuss. Along with Clangers, Noggin the Nog, Ivor the Engine etc.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/04/2026 17:55

Professor Yaffle (the woodpecker)
Gabriel the Toad
Bagpuss - the star
The Mice in their Mouse-Organ
Madelaine the RagDoll (who just draped on the chair like a pampered princess )

Schoolchoicesucks · 16/04/2026 17:56

1977 and was a classic part of my childhood

DoraChance · 16/04/2026 17:56

Born in 1977, he’s my favourite saggy old cloth cat

Arlanymor · 16/04/2026 17:56

Bagpuss is five years old than me, so definitely yes and all of his friends.

I've got the Marvellous Mechanical Mouse Organ song in my head now...

"We will find it, we will bind it , we will stick it with glue, glue, glue, we will stickle it, every little bit of it, we will fix it like new, new, new!"

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/04/2026 17:57

Aww The Clangers . I bought DS a Clangers toy when he was a baby (( "Small " not the SoupDragon sadly )
He was singularly unimpressed by the programme !
