I never thought this could happen to me

I have developed a taste for Smith’s Scampi Fries. The pub snack of yesteryear. Haven’t had them for about twenty years until this week, now I’ve had three packets in two days.

Just opened a packet and they looked more ‘dusty’ than usual, lots of the flavour dust all over the inside of the packet. A nice bonus.

Then I take one from the packet and lift it to my lips…only it’s not a rectangular fake scampi and lemon flavoured snack. It was a nugget of purest flavouring! Whole block of scampi and lemon dust! I wasn’t sure whether to eat it or auction it on eBay but curiosity got the better of me and I ate it. I’m not sure my mouth will ever recover, having been stripped of all tastebuds.

You read about such things but never expect them to happen in real life. Next I will get a solid chocolate kitkat.

Solid chocolate kit kats are a extremely rare event... I've had two in 56 years!! 😁

PoppinjayPolly · 29/03/2026 21:46

Oh I bloody love a packet of Scampi Fries and don't get me started on Bacon Fries! Washed down with a Pepsi Max - I'm a happy gal. I am literally salivating right now!

begonefoulclutter · 29/03/2026 21:57

My mum once found a piece of brillo pad in a coffee and walnut cake.

<misses point of thread> 😁

DP loves those Scampi Fries. Also scampi and lemon Niknaks, which seem hard to find. He would be very jealous!

I’ve had a couple of solid Jacob’s Clubs and a solid Breakaway once. Oh and a United with only the chocolate and honeycomb.

SerendipityCat · 29/03/2026 22:05

Home Bargains is the place - my local branch sells multipacks of bacon/scampi fries, 3 packs of each for £1.79. They don't last long in this house. A scampi or bacon fry buttie, preferably in cheap white bread with lots of butter, is a thing of beauty and shouldn't be dismissed till you've tried it.

WetBandits · 29/03/2026 22:09

Nooooo, not the BV crisps!

I love the salt and vinegar Fish n Chips biscuit things 😋

This is the best thing I’ve ever read - you are truly blessed. Amazing. I don’t know which is better - the polos or the potato. Both excellent.

I had a solid chocolate Breakaway too. I can still taste it now 💕

GG27 · 29/03/2026 22:26

I’ve found this a few times with wotsits, orange nuggets of the strongest, cheesiest flavour dust… seems like it would be delicious, until you eat it

scrambledangle · 29/03/2026 22:28

what a treat….. I’d love it though my mouth wouldn’t thank me

Tonissister · 29/03/2026 22:30

I used to ocasionally buy a diet Sprite at MacDonalds. One day I sipped it and it tasted unbelievably sweet. They had given me a cupful of undiluted syrup. I took it home and added soda water to a few drops of it then kept the rest in the fridge - got litres of diet Sprite for weeks.

BlakeCarrington · 29/03/2026 22:31

Oooh scampi favoured fries are lovely. Smell like a fish shop though. Scampi and lemon fNikNaks are even better, but hard to find these days… the connoisseurs stinky scampi snack.

Bunnybigears · 29/03/2026 22:32

I had a completely made of cheesy dust Wotsit once. Best day of my life (at least top 10 anyway).

A lorry containing 400000 kitkats was stolen yesterday - I wonder how many”d be solid! Could be an excellent research project!🤣

BlakeCarrington · 29/03/2026 22:37

I had a solid chocolate wagon wheel once. Back when they were enormous. Awesome. I should’ve had it preserved for posterity.

Smith's Scampi Fries are f*cking beautiful. Could easily eat 10 packets in a row.

MauveFatball · 29/03/2026 22:46

I had a double cone Cornetto a couple of weeks ago, it looked smaller than the others in the box and was wrapped as normal but once that wrapper was off there was another wrapped (smaller) cone inside it and hardly any ice cream, there was also no chocolate and nut topping on it. I reported it to Ocado as damaged and got a refund for the box of 6. The other 5 were fine.
