I have developed a taste for Smith’s Scampi Fries. The pub snack of yesteryear. Haven’t had them for about twenty years until this week, now I’ve had three packets in two days.

Just opened a packet and they looked more ‘dusty’ than usual, lots of the flavour dust all over the inside of the packet. A nice bonus.

Then I take one from the packet and lift it to my lips…only it’s not a rectangular fake scampi and lemon flavoured snack. It was a nugget of purest flavouring! Whole block of scampi and lemon dust! I wasn’t sure whether to eat it or auction it on eBay but curiosity got the better of me and I ate it. I’m not sure my mouth will ever recover, having been stripped of all tastebuds.

You read about such things but never expect them to happen in real life. Next I will get a solid chocolate kitkat.

I just went to get another packet out of the cupboard, see if I could strike it lucky yet again, only to find they’re all gone and it’s just the Bacon Fries left. Still good, but I was hoping for a lemony hit. I’m addicted now. One dust nugget and you can never go back.

I can’t decide if my next username is going to be ClittyChews or NostrilPainMasochist. Both excellent, thanks @faial and @TroysMammy. ‘Clitty chews’ actually got a sharp gasp of delight out of me - the phase, not so much the concept, ew.

I'm partial to the purple NikNaks. They quite often have nuggets of pure flavour dust. Delightful!!

I once got a big lump of flavour with Bacon Monster Munch. The snack that was so healthy that all the added colour turned your fingers orange.
Sadly they don’t make them any more which I sure is due to the added ingredients to make that wonderful bacon flavour are no longer allowed.

I've developed an incomprehensible yearning for pickled onions in the last few months. I've never had a strange one though.

Not a bonus, more of a deprivation: my daughter found an empty can of Pepsi in her multi-pack last week. All sealed and everything, just nothing in it!

@AgentCooperdreamsofTibet I’m so sorry your Worcestershire sauce moment wasn’t fully appreciated. Maybe they were jealous and just couldn’t handle the fact that you were blessed with a dust nugget and they weren’t? Either way, yah boo sucks to them. I’m also very glad you get to join in the Scampi Fries joy. I’ve been vegetarian since I was little and have never eaten actual scampi to my knowledge, but I enjoy lovely lovely vegetarian Scampi and/or Bacon Fries.

Do you think Smiths will give me a big box of them based on the increased sales that this thread will have generated? <crosses fingers>

Scampi and bacon fries are vegetarian?? My son told me they had real meat flavouring in them. I see what he did.

Someone mentioned factory shops, I had forgotten about those, I remember about 30 years ago I had a book that listed where they all were and you could travel the country buying cheap food mixers, broken biscuits, you name it. Not so many factories now though. Off to google.

Back in the 1970's my aunt worked at the Cadbury factory that made chocolate fingers. She'd regularly bring home bags of broken and deformed ones. One day she gave me a white chocolate finger that was also orange flavoured. I think it was an export only biscuit that wasn't available here. It was a thing of beauty.
My mum used to work at the factory that made cakes for M&S. They had very high standards and defective ones were sold to staff for pennies. Still not as good as the orange/white chocolate finger though.
