Do you still have the heating on?

As in, you haven’t turned it off for the ‘year’ yet?

My house is currently 14c but I don’t usually have it on at the time of year - after the spring equinox I don’t usually need to. But it does feel colder than usual.

Appreciate people more north probably do need it on for longer though.

I do. Not all day, I have been putting it on when I get home from work though and I've just put it on now. I'm wearing a long sleeved t-shirt under a sweatshirt plus a scarf. I hate being cold!

user2848502016 · 28/03/2026 10:06

It’s been off last week but back on again this week, it’s been really cold here!

shuffleofftobuffalo · 28/03/2026 10:07

I’ve put it on in bedrooms for a couple of hours before bed a few times recently, but not all day. It’s warm enough in the day but it’s been 1 degree at night here some nights!

zingally · 28/03/2026 10:07

Sunny but cold here this morning. Mine is on and I suspect it will be for a few more weeks yet.
I don't have a specific "turn off" date in mind, as mine is never on auto (I turn it on and off when I like), there will just be a day when I don't feel like I want it on, and that'll be that. It's like "the last day I wear a woolly hat". I don't consciously decide, it just happens.

bigsoftcocks · 28/03/2026 10:09

I turn mine on in mornings to warm house though as it’s often 0-7 deg overnight right now.

it’s not on constantly but then it never is

ValidPistachio · 28/03/2026 10:11

Of course. It was down to 2°C here last night, and it's currently trying to snow.

Nitgel · 28/03/2026 10:11

Of course. There was ice on the car the other morning.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 28/03/2026 10:14

No, haven’t had it on since Trump attacked Iran and heating oil more than doubled the price, currently being quoted £1.30 a litre. Have had a fire every night though, last night was the first night I felt hot

Lonelycrab · 28/03/2026 10:17

In the evening yes, it’s still dropping down to 2-3 degrees above freezing here at night. SE England.

RantyRant3555 · 28/03/2026 10:17

I vary my heating based on the weather not the date. My place doesn’t retain heat that well so a couple of warms days last week didn’t maintain from it being cold.

I know I very fortunate to be able to do that financially. The heating won’t come on though and I don’t have it on when I am out. I definitely feel the cold wfh even with warmer clothes.

DaveGroh · 28/03/2026 10:17

Ours comes on when it drops below 16.5 degrees, it’s been on and off this week !

Yes it's still on.

I'm in the SE, but its still cold. It's a beautiful sunny morning out, but still only 9°.

I have some washing on & I know it's going to feel very very cold out when I peg it out.

since the stroke I have it set at 21.5° on the thermostat & off overnight.

U've had issues since the stroke & can't regulate my temperature, so at least when it's set to this I can just ignore my weird temperature messages various bits of my body sends (ie right hand & both feet feel freezing, head feels too hot.

but before the stroke, on a day like today, the French doors would have been open at 6 when the sun was already on them & I'd have just put a jumper on if I was a bit chilly.

so sorry I'm not much help, but every person & every house is going to feel different.

UniquePinkSwan · 28/03/2026 10:21

Yes. It’s cold so it’s on

hazelberry · 28/03/2026 10:23

If I'm cold, yes. I don't go by date,I go by how cold I am.

DeQuin · 28/03/2026 10:25

Agree with others: we have a thermostat, and use it. When it's cold, the heating comes on. I keep it lower than some as a baseline and boost it when I am cold. Boosted it yesterday because I was cold.

Roughly where abouts are you?

it's a beautiful sunny morning here (Hampshire) but only about 9°. According to the weather app, I think it's more like 5° actually at my house.

eek washing machine just finished, so need to brave it to peg the washing out! I'm the only one here so no one else ti do it!!

Nourishinghandcream · 28/03/2026 10:30

Our heating comes on when required, we don't set arbitrary dates when "heating needs to be on" or "heating must go off". It there is a cold spell, the heating comes on and if it is warm (like last week) then it doesn't come on.

LilyBunch25 · 28/03/2026 10:31

Yes. DH has health conditions that mean I have to.

mommybear1 · 28/03/2026 10:33

Yes albeit we had turned it off at the start of March (underfloor) as it was lovely during the day but chilly at night. However it’s gone markedly colder since last week so back on it’s gone!

Miranda65 · 28/03/2026 10:35

Yes, of course. Not warm enough to turn it off yet. And there are no rules - it goes on when the temperature is low, regardless of the time of year.

GenieGenealogy · 28/03/2026 10:36

My house is currently 14c

Which would be far too cold for me. However you will probably get loads of people saying how boiling they are when it's 14c and how anything above 12c is pure indulgence and so uncomfortable.

Many of us heat out homes by temperature not the calendar.

PearAndGingerCake · 28/03/2026 10:38

Mornings & evenings yes if between 2-5 degrees outside which unfortunately it has been of late with msny hailstone showers. Need the heating on to dry out dogs & dog walking gear. So naff and wish Spring would properly spring!!

Sarah2891 · 28/03/2026 10:38

Of course. Still gets down to 14c here too.

The Moray Firth area.

I dont understand this turning it on and off on a certain date. If its cold, it's cold. Mines on right now. The house feels chilly. I doubt it will be on all day, an hour or two will be enough. But if I'm cold it goes on.
