Do you still have the heating on?

As in, you haven’t turned it off for the ‘year’ yet?

My house is currently 14c but I don’t usually have it on at the time of year - after the spring equinox I don’t usually need to. But it does feel colder than usual.

Appreciate people more north probably do need it on for longer though.

Yes, of course. Hampshire.
20° overnight.
22 in the morning
21 in the day
22 in the evening.

I can just about tolerate it being this low. No, there's nothing wrong with my health. Yes, I'm layered up to the eyeballs.

Jasmin71 · 28/03/2026 12:40

Yes, but it is hailstones and gale force winds here

BramStokey · 28/03/2026 12:41

Yes, it was 4 degrees here earlier in the week!

shellyleppard · 28/03/2026 12:42

Still on here. The wind is coming down from the North and its chilly. I'm wearing my normal 3 layers ( long sleeve top, jumper and body warmer). Its an old council house and we are waiting (ha ha) for it to be upgraded

youalright · 28/03/2026 12:43

Of course its cold still

midgetastic · 28/03/2026 12:44

I go by temperature not month as I am asthmatic and need to keep temperature at least 18 to protect my health

1000StrawberryLollies · 28/03/2026 12:44

Yes! It's 5° here and it was sleeting earlier!

stargirl1701 · 28/03/2026 12:52

Yes. It was 3 degrees overnight. The heating came on this morning at 6am.

Moominmoko · 28/03/2026 12:55

We still have it on most mornings. We are in the north of Scotland though so probably a bit colder than down south! It's been snowing on and off the last few days.

hahabahbag · 28/03/2026 12:55

We had an overnight frost which is common at this time of year so yes, heating is on. The thermostat will turn it off if it’s over 18 in the house anyway. We turn it off for the summer in early May but it won’t be kicking in much in the afternoons from April onwards.

RampantIvy · 28/03/2026 12:59

Currently 7 degrees with a bitter wind. Of course the heating is on. Overnight down to 2 degrees.

Disturbia81 · 28/03/2026 12:59

Yes I’m freezing still

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 28/03/2026 13:01

My heat pumps are set to heat mode right now. It’s currently -5C outside with a high of 0C this weekend.

feellikeanalien · 28/03/2026 13:05

Trying not to use it as I can't afford to fill my oil tank. Luckily we have a fire in the living room although my coal bunker is emptying quickly. Not helped by the fact that DD has been off school.

Freysimo · 28/03/2026 13:09

I definitely would have heating on if I could. Unfortunately we use oil which is double the price I last paid. We COULD afford this but heating oil suppliers here are taking two weeks to deliver due to shortage and panic buying early on. I may as well sit tight for a few weeks and hope it warms up. We've enough oil to have heating on for an hour or two in the morning and we have heated throws (both retired). It'll have to be turned off completely soon though. Fortunately we have immersion heater for hot water back up.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 28/03/2026 13:12

I've had to put it on the last few days as its been really cold. I had hoped to be past the need for it, but even if it doesn't come on much through the day, by 3pm its really getting cold.

Roll on the warm spring weather.....if it ever arrives for more than a day.

MidnightMeltdown · 28/03/2026 13:32

Yes. We have this marvellous thing called a thermostat, so it comes on if the temp drops below 19 degrees. 14 degrees is a ridiculous! I don’t understand the mentality of letting the calendar dictate when you should switch the heating off and then sitting there freezing! Surely it’s common sense to go by temperature.

DemonsandMosquitoes · 28/03/2026 14:37

We’re on oil which has currently doubled in price. So heating is off and we are living under heated blankets. Normally, would still have it on yes.

henlake7 · 28/03/2026 14:46

Mines been off since mid february, temps usually about 13-16C in the house. Im managing fine with lots of layers and blankets, hot water bottle in the evening.

I dont have anything againest heating (got more then enough in my Octopus account for a couple more months heating) I just sorta stopped considering it!
I think Ive adjusted to the cold weather by now and TBH I never liked really hot rooms.

mum2jakie · 28/03/2026 14:49

Heating on today. We've had hailstorms and it's absolutely bloody freezing!

RedLightYellowLight · 28/03/2026 14:50

Yes, I go by the temperate not the date. British people are weird sometimes: if it’s cold turn it on! Set the thermostats and if cold will come on and if Warm won’t. Easy

mumofoneAloneandwell · 28/03/2026 14:50

Got it on as its chilly indoors today

RedLightYellowLight · 28/03/2026 14:51

This

reluctantbrit · 28/03/2026 14:56

Yes, because I'm cold. I don't go by the calendar, I go by me feeling cold.

Normally it would be already off during the day, but I am on sick leave thanks to a fracture and can't move around a lot so I'm already under a pile of blankets and I'm still cold so the heating is on.

Abra1t · 28/03/2026 15:00

When we get up and in the evenings, yes, thermostat on 18 degrees. If I’m cold working at my desk, I have a small electric heater, which solar panels cover energy-wise for an occasional blast mid-afternoon.

We use heating oil and it costs 100% more than it did in January.
