Do you still have the heating on?

As in, you haven’t turned it off for the ‘year’ yet?

My house is currently 14c but I don’t usually have it on at the time of year - after the spring equinox I don’t usually need to. But it does feel colder than usual.

Appreciate people more north probably do need it on for longer though.

Ours is on a timer. When it’s been sunny, we’ve switched it off. Although it was sunny today, it was cold. Surprised it’s still on late March. Ours is usually off by now.

Mine is still on. It isn't reliably warm enough to set my thermostat to 'sod you, it's summer' temperature.

🤣🤣

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 28/03/2026 15:18

Of course - it’s cold! Hailstones here today!

We had them too this afternoon (Hampshire) I got soaked bringing in the almost dry washing, 2 minutes later it had stopped again 🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️

still after a spell on the airer it's now all dry!

🙄🙄I need to get a life!!🤣

Fast800goingforit · 28/03/2026 21:01

Hell yes. It's 3 degrees here.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 28/03/2026 21:05

14 degrees is bloody cold, are you really skint?

Id be miserable in a house that cold.

NFPorterkeeponkeepingonNsoul · 28/03/2026 21:08

No heating today..temp inside 21 NE Scotland.

CandidHedgehog · 28/03/2026 21:18

My heating is set relatively low (18 during the day and 15 overnight in a well insulated modern property). I don’t turn it off. If it gets that low in August (obviously never happens), it needs to come on.

Autumnlife · 28/03/2026 22:49

Ours is set to 19 and off overnight. I don’t think hot stuffy houses sat in pjs at night and a dressing gown sometimes stick a blanket over me.

nocoolnamesleft · 28/03/2026 22:52

I don’t switch it on/off for the year, but when it gets warmer the thermostat will stop it kicking in. It will hit 5 degrees tonight, so not feeling guilty.

TheCraftySquid · 29/03/2026 15:50

Yes. It’s absolutely brass monkeys.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 29/03/2026 15:53

My thermostat is set at 18C. The heating has been coming on.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 29/03/2026 15:56

Hasn't been on since the end of January. New build well-insulated flat, so even when it's 3 or 4 degrees outside the indoor temp is rarely lower than 13-14 degrees and I don't like it any warmer than that anyway.

Emmz1510 · 29/03/2026 16:03

Yes, it’s not as much/often but we still need it on for short periods. After a week or so of nice weather and no heating, we are back to needing it again. Typical Scotland.

Heyitsmeeee · 29/03/2026 16:03

Been having it on for an hour or two before kids go to bed to take the chill out but that's it

Myexhas6kids · 29/03/2026 16:03

Mine comes on in the morning and will do for at least another month. Heat pump on an EV tariff so costs me next to nothing before 6 am.

That is very unusual. How on earth do you cope at work, in public buildings or in summer?

The NHS recommended temperature for health is 18 degrees.

ApolloandDaphne · 29/03/2026 16:22

I would be miserable if my house was only heated to 14. I like it around 19/20. If the heating needs to go on then on it goes.

MummyWillow1 · 29/03/2026 16:24

Never switch mine off. It is on a thermostat so if it gets colder than that it comes on. It doesn’t normally come on between May and September though.

PepsiBook · 29/03/2026 16:36

The thermostat is set to 20 of a day time, lower of a night all year around.
Why would you not allow heating on after a set date? If you're cold, turn it on.

Nuffpills · 29/03/2026 16:36

Thermostat set at 18c .Time of year not a factor!

BurntBroccoli · 29/03/2026 16:39

I would but it’s oil heating and trying to make it last due to the astronomical cost at the moment.
Jumpers, blankets at the moment but still feel cold. Arthritis kicking off too so feel a bit miserable.

fouroclockrock · 29/03/2026 16:43

Its quite cold but my direct debit keeps being increased and it’s just too much now so I haven’t had the heating on for a few weeks. Currently in a dressing gown.

Walkinglikegroucho · 29/03/2026 17:11

Yes. For maybe an hour morning and evening or if it feels cold. Its on now.

We're far south and in a lovely warm new build. I dont like a chill in the air though in a house!

We just put it on when we fancy it. No rules about time of year or temperature in the house.

Walkinglikegroucho · 29/03/2026 17:12

@BurntBroccoli @fouroclockrock sorry to hear this both. I hope the weather warms up for you soon.

Ihateboris · 29/03/2026 17:14

No, I use heating oil and have run out. Can’t afford to refill at the moment
