Do you still have the heating on?

As in, you haven’t turned it off for the ‘year’ yet?

My house is currently 14c but I don’t usually have it on at the time of year - after the spring equinox I don’t usually need to. But it does feel colder than usual.

Appreciate people more north probably do need it on for longer though.

From 8am to 10pm. 21 degrees.

We've had it on all day today as the wind has been perishingly cold and our house can be draughty. I've turned it down now as we don't have the heating on at night though.

patooties · 29/03/2026 23:29

Yes - it’s fucking freezing. Has been hail stoning and the wind is icy.

I also light the log burner when I got up in the morning as it’s much nicer to drink a cup of tea with a fire while everything else warms up around us.

GentleSheep · 29/03/2026 23:37

Yes it will come on as soon as the temperature in the house dips below 18C. Or 17C at night. It only gets turned off in around June or maybe later in May if we have a warm spell.

TicklishMintDuck · 30/03/2026 00:47

I think it depends on the type of house you live in too. Older and/or bigger houses can struggle to retain heat. I have my thermostat at 14-15 degrees and my heating comes on for a bit. I’m up north. I actually got schooled on TikTok the other day for commenting on people wearing shorts and T-shirts inside in midwinter. They were like, we keep our houses warm. No energy saving awareness at all lol.

patooties · 30/03/2026 01:22

My house is big / high ceilings / no insulation more than we already have. Thermostat is on 18 - it’s still bloody freezing without the fire - full clothing and socks and a rug when sat watching tv. I was out in a tee last weekend and had my pedicure / toenails done on Monday in anticipation of summer…

Hollyhobbi · 30/03/2026 01:53

Yes. I had major surgery on Thursday week and am on blood thinners so I always feel the cold. Plus there was a cold wind out today.

MyJustCat · 30/03/2026 02:00

No, but no need for heating, the temp in my house is around 21c for the past few weeks without heating but I'm in east anglia and have a well insulated house that's less than 10 years old.

Bryonyberries · 30/03/2026 07:19

Morning and evening at the moment. During the day it isn’t too bad. I don’t have a cut off point, mine is on when it is cold enough to need it.

LydiaFunnyGums · 30/03/2026 07:29

I have it on all night as it’s so bloody cold! 🥶
Hurry up summer!

It's been off since the bellend that is Trump decided that his latest project would be to invade Iran.

We have enough oil for hot water but the heating is off and only the log burners are being used.

Same here

RampantIvy · 30/03/2026 16:14

I realise that the cost of oil is the reason why so many posters are not using their heating, and I'm gratified to see that there aren't so many "anyone who needs their heating on at this time of year is a wimp" posters on this thread.

We keep a warm house as DH is on blood thinners, suffers from Raynauds and is very underweight so he feels the cold dreadfully.

fussychica · 30/03/2026 16:31

Of course. We have it on by the thermostat set at 20 degrees usually. Still clicking on regularly, it might be sunny but the wind it bitter.

RedRiverShore6 · 30/03/2026 16:33

I don't turn mine off for the time of year, if it's cold in July, it's on
