So, DD has been begging to have her ears done - fine by me, explained it hurts, taking care of them ect ect.
I suggested waiting until summer holidays due to PE ect.. but DD said the girls in her class don’t take their earrings out for PE and don’t tape them ect. I checked with those parents and the school and they are allowed to wear a small stud during PE. So DD wants it done asap.

Its a non uniform day tomorrow and DD is now begging relentlessly to have her ears done when she gets home tonight so she can show them to her friends with her non-uniform 😂

I don’t know if I’m overthinking it, is it a good idea to send her off to school with fresh piercings? Should we wait until the weekend, or do you think she’ll be ok if she did have them done tonight? She knows she can’t fiddle with them ect. They don’t have PE tomorrow anyway ect. But I’m so undecided.

Surely the piercer isn't licensed, it's the premises that's licensed?

You definitely need to be licensed.

No, you can qualify as a piercer and do it from home or wherever else you like.

I don't know what magical properties people think piercing studios have that can't be replicated anywhere else, or what wide range of equipment might be necessary.

Why do some parents never say no when children beg and pester?

Absolutely not she's far too young

Tryagain26 · 14/03/2026 19:21

She is too young, wait until she can properly look after them by herself

Oh for goodness sake. My point was, if the ‘friends’ set up was in a studio that would be where her equipment etc was. She would not be able to replicate that at someone else’s house. It’s crazy that any professional would do that for a friends 7 year old at their house rather then bring them into the premises.

This is MN though so every detail has to be challenged, just so people can feel ‘right’ - i hope you got what you wanted from it

What equipment do you think is needed? A needle, some anti-septic and a pair of earrings. It's not surgery.

Oh, ok. Silly me. Thanks for your lesson.

I'd say let her wait. Until she was 18, when she can do whatever she likes with her ears.

How old are your kids? You only have to be 16 to get your ears pierced without a parent present.
