Aargh!

I was intending to eat better this year, and bought the stuff to do so, but I'm struggling to actually bother.

Dinner is usually fine, but I'm struggling with breakfast and lunch.

I'm not on a diet or anything; I would just like to eat more variety as I seem to always end up having bread lately, and it gets boring. Plus I'm constantly feeling bloated and lethargic.

It's homemade sourdough, so it could be worse, but I'm also shattered all the time, and had hoped that eating more variety would help with any physical symptoms.

I thought writing it all down here might encourage me to make more effort.

If anyone else wants to join me, that would be great 😊

I didn't start well this morning, hence this thread:

So far all I've had today is a cup of tea with oat milk and 1 thin slice of sourdough bread with butter and peanut butter

2 teas and 3 digestive biscuits

HopSpringsEternal · 03/02/2026 10:03

I always eat breakfast at 10am and usually have greek yoghurt with nuts frozen cherries and chia seeds. Love it and fills me up until 1pmish. When I usually have an omlete and salad and a flapjack.

becausetrampslikeus · 03/02/2026 10:08

Been very good with breakfast lately / handful of oats in a pan and while they cook, add mixed nuts or seeds and some fruit / chop a banana or apple or dried prunes or apricots

its quick and simple to make, tastes good, actually does last till lunch , and if you mix up the fruit and stuff you get 13 different plants in a week before you start

Greek yoghurt plus 29g Dorset meal - tortilla ( the cooked ready done ones plus half a tub of Longley farm at lunch and 5 baby toms, chicken escalopes , coleslaw and potato croquettes for tea

User415373 · 03/02/2026 10:18

I'm a 2 meals a day gal (I'm only 5 ft and find this is the best way to avoid scale creep!)
Brunch at 11 will be a flat bread with tuna, radish, cucumber, lettuce, red cabbage, onion, olives and whatever else I can find. Also a big dollop of mayo.
Dinner will be chicken and chickpea curry with brown rice, broccoli on the side.
I'll probably have some greek yoghurt with strawberries and blueberries too.
I'll also have about 4 cups of tea/coffee.

Tallyho15 · 03/02/2026 10:20

Breakfast - Greek yogurt, chia seeds and frozen blueberries

snack: tea with collagen powder & a protein bar

I am on a diet and aim for 1400 calories per day

MrTiddlesTheCat · 03/02/2026 10:22

Northernmummyoftwo2026 · 03/02/2026 11:01

Same re trying to be healthy!! So far :

breakfast - overnight oats
lunch - will be halloumi salad
snacks - will be yogurt, smoothie (love struck frozen pouch - expensive ish but worth it for fruit as otherwise I won’t eat much - plus I find them filling and a sweet tooth pick me up post lunch) or nakd bar
dinner - teriyaki cod veg and rice (prepped at weekend)

oh - and two coffees!!

i tend to rinse and repeat meals/snacks mon-thurs then give myself more flexibility on the weekend without going crazy . Brekkie stays the same all week. Works for me

Your lunch sounds delicious!

RoseDog · 03/02/2026 11:06

So far I’ve had granola, it tasted like cardboard, I actually weighed out a portion, 45g, as I had the scales out, it’s barely anything at all!

oh and a coffee.

Hdpr · 03/02/2026 11:08

Half a large pot of fat free Greek yoghurt with berries, dates and honey.
lunch is homemade soup and a packet of crisps. Dinner will be homemade tomato and bacon pasta with veg

Pancakeflipper · 03/02/2026 11:11

Rice krispies with flax seeds
Hand full of nuts.

BrickBiscuit · 03/02/2026 11:15

I often eat 'anytime' food for breakfast, not specific breakfast items. So tofu sushi with extra soy sauce, fruit salad and a rum and coke (without ice) was one recent breakfast. I posted this on a breakfast thread recently and some people thought the booze was weird. I only have one (or sometimes two or maybe none) alcoholic drink a day, and sometimes it's with breakfast. This morning, I'd had a pint of beer last night and only drunk half. I finished it (flat of course) this morning. Pie and chips, pasta bake, curry, leftovers from yesterday's dinner are all possibilities, plus a pudding. I once spent some time in a country where curry was every meal, including breakfast. Portions are smaller than dinner though.

mondaytosunday · 03/02/2026 11:20

Cup of tea, egg, bacon, avocado, handful tomatoes and protein thin bagel. 575 calories. I alternate this with tea, egg, 50gr smoked salmon, tomatoes, NYB protein bagel: 450 cals.
Lunch: either homemade squash soup or Raku salad (from Lidl’s) or Cully and Sully risotto or soup. All about 400 cals (I know you said you aren’t dieting).
Dinner Hello Fresh try to keep it at 600-700cals. HF adds a lot of variety to our meals as I don’t like to cook and get stuck in a rut. They are the right portions, and you don’t have to think about it. I do add extra veg to bulk it out. I have this three times a week, if on my own second day is leftovers.
Snack might be a mini chocolate bar (like the size you give at Halloween) or banana or something around 100 cals.
I log everything into My Fitness Pal as it keeps track of macros as well as calories. I aim for at 30% protein but usually eat too much fat - though it’s from the Cully and Sully soup, avocado, salmon and egg, so mostly ‘healthy’ fats.

anonocakey · 03/02/2026 11:40

Flat white and a Cadbury mini egg flap jack at 9.30.
Not sure what later will bring. Winging it today

Mirrorxxx · 03/02/2026 11:49

Porridge and a clementine.
lunch will be a deli sandwich as eating out
dinner not sure
snacks probably a banana and a babybel

MissyB1 · 03/02/2026 12:25

I don’t eat before midday. So just had a bowl of oat bran porridge with added seeds, nuts, and blueberries. Late afternoon I will have cheese and crackers and a banana. Dinner tonight is mixed seafood pasta bake followed by rice pudding.

TheChosenTwo · 03/02/2026 12:34

I’m a 2 meal a day person, lunch is just reheating, leftover pie from last night (minus the pastry!) and cabbage.

@BrickBiscuityou write like having only one alcoholic drink a day is restraint? I’m afraid having alcohol every day and for breakfast is not normal

HUNGRY4MORE · 03/02/2026 12:58

@BrickBiscuit unusual choice! Are you retired or working from home then, if you're having an alcoholic drink in the mornings?
(I'm assuming you don't drive afterwards?)

I've not been great so far today. 2 teas, 1 sl sourdough (as mentioned previously) and 3 crackers with pate.
We've still got stuff left over from Christmas hence having crackers as a snack. I hate waste, so will eat it despite not really fancying it. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Normally it’s full fat Greek yogurt with homemade prune, apricot and fig compot (yum!)

but today has been a slice of peanut butter on toast and an m&s brownie (also yum but slightly less healthy 🤩)

TheMorgenmuffel · 03/02/2026 13:00

Im having a tuna, sweetcorn and mayo sandwich right now and dinner will be whatever I pull out of the freezer, no idea.

CandiedPrincess · 03/02/2026 13:06

I was healthy eating this week so naturally I've had a packet of Monster Munch and two slices of cheese on toast.
