Aargh!

I was intending to eat better this year, and bought the stuff to do so, but I'm struggling to actually bother.

Dinner is usually fine, but I'm struggling with breakfast and lunch.

I'm not on a diet or anything; I would just like to eat more variety as I seem to always end up having bread lately, and it gets boring. Plus I'm constantly feeling bloated and lethargic.

It's homemade sourdough, so it could be worse, but I'm also shattered all the time, and had hoped that eating more variety would help with any physical symptoms.

I thought writing it all down here might encourage me to make more effort.

If anyone else wants to join me, that would be great 😊

I didn't start well this morning, hence this thread:

So far all I've had today is a cup of tea with oat milk and 1 thin slice of sourdough bread with butter and peanut butter

I’ve just had ‘barleysotto’ previously batch-cooked, from the freezer with a salmon fillet cooked in the air fryer 🙂

What have you eaten, or what will you eat today?
TheBestSpoon · 03/02/2026 15:08

So far, breakfast was porridge with frozen cherries and a square of dark chocolate, black coffee and lunch was a pack of four prawn dumplings, slice of homemade quiche lorraine, wilted spinach and mangetout.

Just about to have another black coffee and square of dark chocolate. Dinner will be chicken and veg noodles with peanut butter sauce and crispy chilli oil and I'll probably have a peppermint tea with a biscuit or two once the kids are in bed.

Not a bad day, but probably too much chocolate to let me shift the extra pounds that crept on over Christmas!

HUNGRY4MORE · 03/02/2026 15:23

Well, lunch was a mishmash of leftovers....

cooked noodles coated in a little chow mein sauce, 1 egg, ½ red onion, 2 chopped spring onions, all heated up in the microwave for 2 mins to cook through. Then I topped it with a bit of grated cheddar cheese and some pickled white cabbage/green pepper and onion mix, mixed it all up and ate it.

Sounds weird, but tasted nice 😀

Dinner tonight will be shredded hog roast (from the freezer) in a soft bap with stuffing and apple sauce.

I’m off today and didn’t get up until after 11.
So far I’ve had a bowl of porridge. I’m going to have two slices of toast and a mandarin in a while. For dinner I’ll have chicken tenders and a few chips.

Nomedshere · 03/02/2026 15:44

Greek yoghurt, granola and banana about 11. We will have roast veg pasta about 6.

dms1 · 03/02/2026 16:21

Breakfast: 1 & a half weetabix with oat milk, 2 eggs and 2 large strawberries
snack: small handful almonds
lunch: chicken salad and 2 tablespoons cous cous
snack: 2 rice cakes & laughing cow cheese
dinner: planning to have steak and mix of green veg
TV snack: small bag salted popcorn & 4 squares dark chocolate
All advised by my PT. So far it’s working well.

ShiftySquirrel · 03/02/2026 16:24

Greek Yoghurt, oats and nuts. Sometimes I switch it up with fruit instead of nuts .

Soup. Not home made though. A Moroccan or Spanish style soup from Tesco.
Lunch is always soup on weekdays as I get a short break.

Dinner tonight for DH and I is steak, peppercorn sauce and steamed veg.

catin8oot5 · 03/02/2026 17:41

2 x coffee with oat milk

Peanut butter on sourdough toast and a dried fig

small bowl of salad with 2 tbsps of cottage cheese

I was recently diagnosed with medical condition meaning I have to eat little and often. I’ve lost 3 stone though!

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 03/02/2026 18:33

Porridge, raisins

Bread roll with sardines (shopping not due till tonight) and a banana

Beef and tomato in the slow cooker with kidney beans and mash. Blackberry crumble.

@BrickBiscuityou write like having only one alcoholic drink a day is restraint? I’m afraid having alcohol every day and for breakfast is not normal

What's the matter with it? I have one or more alcohol-free days a week, drink less than the NHS recommended maximum units, and come in below the guidance levels for driving. Why shouldn't I drink it in the morning instead of having six or eight times as much in the evening like many people do?

HowManyMoreTimesMustYouBeTold · 03/02/2026 19:18

B - Slimfast chocolate shake
L - vegetable soup
Snack - yoghurt
D - Chicken Tikka Masala and rice
Snack - a satsuma

OneFootAfterTheOther · 03/02/2026 19:22

Breakfast was new potatoes, mixed beans, sprouts, roasted red peppers, spinach and a poached egg.

Lunch was a Big Mac meal

I believe in balance 🤣

BrickBiscuit · 03/02/2026 19:26

HUNGRY4MORE · 03/02/2026 12:58

@BrickBiscuit unusual choice! Are you retired or working from home then, if you're having an alcoholic drink in the mornings?
(I'm assuming you don't drive afterwards?)

I've not been great so far today. 2 teas, 1 sl sourdough (as mentioned previously) and 3 crackers with pate.
We've still got stuff left over from Christmas hence having crackers as a snack. I hate waste, so will eat it despite not really fancying it. 🤷🏽‍♀️

I'm a big fan of leftovers too, which can dictate what I'm eating for breakfast. Also still finishing off crackers from Christmas! Yes, retired from the big job and self-employed part-time, mostly WFH. Big job was shift work, and I still used to have a breakfast drink on days off (after a decade of no alcohol - twice - and nearly drinking myself to death as a young adult). I stay within the guidance for units and liver-time for driving, though always leave more leeway. I'm equally concerned about tiredness when driving, and prioritise good sleep beforehand.

GreenEyesIsBack · 03/02/2026 19:31

5 cups of tea
Tuna pasta
A large piece of wenslydale.

DilemmaDelilah · 03/02/2026 19:59

Low fat cheese and onion toastie on seeded wholemeal bread.
Weight watchers tomato soup with a piece of seeded wholemeal bread and low fat spread
An apple
Spaghetti with a small portion of Bolognese sauce
2 caramel rice cakes
Several pickled onions
Numerous cups of decaf coffee with skimmed milk.

Wonderwall23 · 03/02/2026 20:07

2 wheatabix with sultanas

Avocado spread in a sandwich, packet of crisps and a banana

Homemade macaroni cheese with peas in, with some cherry tomatoes and a leftover flatbread wrap thing on the side

About to eat 2 satsumas

In general I'm trying to be a bit healthier although it's about cholesterol not weight. Am cutting right down on chocolate/cake etc. Am finding it rather joyless, actually.

TheYakWanders · 03/02/2026 20:20

Fasting today so lunch was merchant gourmet Thai lentils with a small portion of rice (huge bowl of food!) and lots of water and tea.

HUNGRY4MORE · 04/02/2026 16:07

I usually eat a lot more variety, especially fruit and veg, but I have really struggled for the last 6 months.
In general, I eat well, but have periods whereby I can't be bothered, and I always feel worse for it. This usually coincides with low mood due to a health condition flaring up.

Even though I know I'll feel better, it's still hard to get back into it, and that's where I'm at at the moment.

Today, I've had a crumpet with butter and a slice of ham and a dairylea slice.

2 teas with oat milk.

Lunch is a cheese and bean pasty which needs using up.

Dinner will be shredded hog roast pork with BBQ sauce, fried onions and mushrooms. Served in a bap.

I can identify with this.

Sometimes just little, low-threshold hacks can help. If I put a bowl of grapes/ Edamame/ soft fruit next to my computer, I will pick at it.

When I do cook something healthy, I‘ll freeze a couple of portions for the days I can’t be bothered. Only works if it’s genuinely tasty.

I‘ll make myself Ramen, but throw an egg and frozen veg into the cooking water (the egg poaches).

We do a lot of smoothies in our house. Easy to eat and gets fruit in you.

We have amazing salads at work I‘ll go in for - even if I spend the rest of the day wfh.

Enough of those little hacks can sometimes get you to the state where you’re cooking and eating nutritiously again.

Sometimes, though, your body just wants the chicken nuggets and plastic cheese. And sometimes it’s ok to just ride that out.

Theda13 · 04/02/2026 20:44

I love these threads. I haven’t been feeling good today, but I’ve just managed to have a pizza panini (stuffed with tomato purée, mozzarella and pepperoni.)

Doyouthinktheyknow · 04/02/2026 21:00

Today’s meals:

No breakfast
Lunch: couscous, roasted vegetables with tuna (homemade)
unsweetened Skyr yogurt with frozen berries and an apple mid afternoon post walk.
Dinner: Chicken breast, new potatoes and peas and Broad beans
Skyr and berries for dessert with 10g 85% dark chocolate.

I am trying to be healthy, maintaining a large weight loss and minimizing upf’s.

sprigatito · 04/02/2026 21:02

B - two cups of coffee with milk
L - wholemeal roll with butter and salmon paste, small bag of frozen chopped fruit
D - homemade turkey and vegetable soup, another bag of frozen fruit

BrickBiscuit · 03/02/2026 11:15

I often eat 'anytime' food for breakfast, not specific breakfast items. So tofu sushi with extra soy sauce, fruit salad and a rum and coke (without ice) was one recent breakfast. I posted this on a breakfast thread recently and some people thought the booze was weird. I only have one (or sometimes two or maybe none) alcoholic drink a day, and sometimes it's with breakfast. This morning, I'd had a pint of beer last night and only drunk half. I finished it (flat of course) this morning. Pie and chips, pasta bake, curry, leftovers from yesterday's dinner are all possibilities, plus a pudding. I once spent some time in a country where curry was every meal, including breakfast. Portions are smaller than dinner though.

Before work? 😬😬😬

ViciousCurrentBun · 04/02/2026 22:26

Bran-flakes for breakfast
Avocado on seeded toast with 2 poached eggs
Small bowl of porridge made with water with added pomegranate seeds and almonds
Rice, carrots, green beans, salmon and samphire with teriyaki sauce and ginger all steamed.

I have recently been diagnosed with an angina and high cholesterol so this is it now. I will eat bran and porridge every day as Ken if the best th8nk apart from cutting down on red meat and cheese is to up your fibre.

NormasArse · 04/02/2026 22:33

I’ve just been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that doesn’t like dairy or gluten.

So breakfast was a mushroom omelette; lunch a chicken salad wrap (paprika chicken left over from Monday night- pea protein wrap)

Dinner was leftover cottage pie from last night, with a chocolate mousse thing made from whizzed up melted dark chocolate and peaches, for pudding.

I am losing weight not eating the stuff that wrecks my digestion, so every cloud…
