Valencia is an amazing city! So is Berlin.
Aberdeen on the other hand…

Noname63 · 26/01/2026 20:13

Blackpool. We only passed through; it was enough.

Bernardo1 · 26/01/2026 20:11

Why ?

It's just so boring

Leesemarie · 26/01/2026 20:17

CuriousKangaroo · 25/01/2026 13:40

Brussels.

I second this!! Brussels felt like a zombie apocalypse, which I guess isn't boring, but it wasn't good either

Now that really is a you problem. There are all sorts of things you can accuse Berlin of - dirty, yup, rude locals, absolutely, filthy weather in February, very much so. But it is not, and has never been, bland and boring. It’s true that it’s not the right holiday for certain kinds of people though. Whenever people criticize Berlin we suggest they fuck off to Munich where things are a bit more toy-towny.

I wonder if they just went to the bit of Unter den Linden by the Brandenberg Gate? There's at least 3 or 4 blocks of bland there before you hit another historical site of world significance.

Lady Grey, you were the poster who suggested we visit Schlachtensee for a swim, and I just want you to know that we went and it was lovely, and I didn't even smell the threatened weed 😄.

We absolutely loved Berlin- even the dirty bits- and I think anyone who doesn't like it should try Heidelberg. We went there on our Interrailing trip too, and were like "Well, this is all very.......manicured, isn't it?" 😆

I remember a similar thread a few months ago, I think it's great, I've never been out of the UK, so all the doom-laden posts make me think I haven't missed much! :-)

New Zealand. Like Scotland 30 yrs ago. Provincial, dull and drizzly.

You’re joking surely! It’s a fabulous place. So much to see and do. Says more about you really if you find NZ boring.

Welwyn Roman Baths !

They built a motorway on top of it for a reason.😁

MinnieMountain · 26/01/2026 20:46

Which Newport did you visit @TigerRag ?

Which Newport did you visit @TigerRag ?

South, just as you go over the bridge

Ilovepastafortea · 26/01/2026 20:49

I have a friend who's husband is an archaeologist who's main interest is in Roman Britain. He kept their honey-moon a surprise. She was looking forward to needing a bikini. Heck No! He had planned a week with him helping out on a dig on Hadrian's Wall with them staying in a tent. Funnily enough she decided that she was going to spend that week in a B&B. That was over 20 years ago & they're still going strong. Love has no bounds. 😂

South, just as you go over the bridge

Thought so. It's well known for being a dump. Newport Pembrokeshire is much nicer.

But it’s landlocked !

France isn't.

Twittens · 26/01/2026 20:57

Florence… I was 18, really excited to go there… really interested in seeing the art and the architecture… it was dull, dull, dull, dull, dull…we had a guide… I have met more animated dead people…

GeorgeOhWell · 26/01/2026 21:03

I’ve just remembered falling asleep during a performance of Palliase and Melisandre at the London Coliseum. When the curtain call was taken there were singers I didn’t recognise as I had slept through their performance. I’m not a big fan of opera as you can imagine

mummyhat · 26/01/2026 21:05

Berlin….

Where were you thinking OP?

VecnasSkinnyLatte · 26/01/2026 21:05

I find it fascinating how people can find some of these places dull. I think I’m obviously a massive nerd.
I don’t like most theme parks. Both dull ( the queues) and incredibly overstimulating.

Wellthisisdifficult · 26/01/2026 21:10

Paris

Wellthisisdifficult · 26/01/2026 21:12

c0uldibeanymoretired · 26/01/2026 19:04

Paris, just dirty, expensive, only came across rude people who worked at cafes/restaurants we were visiting. Will never go back

Totally agree

ToadRage · 26/01/2026 21:13

The International Bowls Championship. Both my in laws play so they thought it would be a nice weekend away cis we live near where they are held. Bored rigid. I ended up napping in the car.

Blackpool. We only passed through; it was enough.

I go there so often because DS 14 lives near there and loves it, but only ever wants to eat in Wendy's.

Calis beach in Turkey we wanted somewhere with good nightlife close by but didn’t want to be in the middle of it. The closest town for nightlife Hisseronue we were told it would be a 20 minute walk max. It wasn’t it was 30 miles away cost minimum of 45 lira each way for a taxi. Would have been a 3 1/2 hour walk. We did go on 2 nights out but that’s all we could afford with the taxi fares. Calis beach itself is lovely lots of chilled bars and restaurants along the prom. It’s more of a couples holiday than 2 friends going for sun and nightlife. The highlight was the chill out cruise sunbathing on a boat stopped off to swim in open water which was lovely. Then tucked into a generous buffet.

What year did you go?? 45 Turkish Lira is about 75p

I loved Southern Sweden when we visited it's just beautiful.

I do too - we lived in Copenhagen and went a lot , Malmo is way nicer than you might imagine in the centre, Lund is gorgeous just up the coast and Ystad is very nice too- wallander country!!! I do agree there isn’t loads to see or do ‘as such’ but it has decent shopping, a lovely coastline, excellent beaches and a quick 25 minute hop over the bridge which is great to Copenhagen.

lincoln75 · 26/01/2026 21:29

Centre Parcs

Crikeyalmighty · 26/01/2026 21:31

Shamesame · 26/01/2026 19:34

Totally agree! We were having a very slow holiday there with a small baby and it was too small and dull to entertain us with those low expectations, plus we weren’t in a resort.

Mallorca on the hand blew me away.

Mallorca is my fall back main holiday most years , mixed in with a bit of Greek island stuff- honestly I would be perfectly ok if I could only ever go to Majorca and the Greek islands -
