Just that. Interested to see if anyone says what I'm thinking...

It depends what’s fun for you? If you’re into arts, culture and history, you’ll find most European capitals interesting. I am gobsmacked about comments here on Florence and Budapest, so much history and great food!

Vivianebrooksmatsumoto · 26/01/2026 18:07

Josselin, Brittany, France. "Plenty to do and see here!" Raved the guestbook where we were staying. One drive around was enough, yes I guess it was pretty and some might stop and takea few photos but that's about it.
I think maybe some of the comments in said guest book was by over excited people who were in Brittany or France for the first time and ANYTHING would have impressed them.

Oh and a poster said Newport, Wales. Yep, I went there with a friend before the Debenhams and the new shopping centre was built in 2015, the word we used to describe it was Balkan. It looked like something out of Eastern Europe.

InSearchOfMartin · 26/01/2026 18:09

Stevenage train station when you are abandoned at 9.15 pm when the railways are playing silly buggers is boring. Nowhere to get a drink. Nothing to do.

I've just remembered that long ago when I was around 15, my DM and I went on a coach day trip to France. Ferry from Dover to Boulogne, they drove the coach off the ferry and into a car park by the fishing fleet docks. The whole place was utterly grim and filthy, and stank of fish. There was absolutely nothing to do other than wander round a hypermarket the size of a small country which contained mountains of smelly cheese, ten million bottles of cheap wine and very little else.

Oh god ,day trip to Boulogne back in the day 🤦‍♀️Probably my first trip abroad back in 70s!

My boring parents dragged me round numerous boring churches in my younger days. I never saw the appeal. I am not saying all churches are boring, the Sagrada Familia was beautiful and Rosslyn Chapel was interesting but most are incredibly dull for a child/teenager. I feel the same about gardens. I love stately homes, castles, palaces but the gardens hold no interest for me.

Valencia was dull, dull, dull. Also a week in rural Austria nearly tipped me into depression and made me realise I am not into scenery as the focal point of a holiday.

Really @santasbaubles . Absolutely love Valencia. Used to holiday there as a kid and my sister in law now lives on the outskirts. Love it.

pippistrelle · 26/01/2026 18:13

@Vivianebrooksmatsumoto Instead of driving quickly around Josselin, you might have visited the castle, or the museum. Rented a boat on the canal, visited the mediaeval church, climbed its tower and enjoyed the beautiful views, attended one of the many musical events held in the town.

Ilovesunshine22 · 26/01/2026 18:13

Escot! over priced most boring day ever.

Vivianebrooksmatsumoto · 26/01/2026 18:14

Cherbourg. Bleak, rainy, depressing, the only good thing was the Auchan centre commercial we found on the outskirts of the city as we couldn't seem to find our way from where we parked by the port into the city so gave up, we were only there as we were getting a ferry the next day as ours from St Malo got cancelled, so the long drive there didn't help. We passed through there in the 90s and it was pretty much the same if I remember.

Crikeyalmighty · 26/01/2026 18:17

Milton Keynes high on the list , I’m not keen on Frankfurt either although I do enjoy Germany in general - Frankfurt feels very sterile . In all honesty I found Antigua dull too

Myli1 · 26/01/2026 18:18

Dubai. Totally soulless and mind-numbingly boring.

Leedsfan247 · 26/01/2026 18:18

It’s the most beautiful building in London

Edited

We were there in October so it was out of season but I know medieval towns already like Dinan and Rennes anyways. There just didn't seem to be much there to us from what we could see.

ToadRage · 26/01/2026 18:20

You should have seen the look on mothers face when i told her what I thought of the play. I had been dragged against my will to see Man and Superman. I slept through the entire thing. I am not anti-theatre, i enjoy operas, ballets, musicals and even the odd Shakespeare but boring plays are really not my thing.

Stonehenge

I can't help wondering what it was that you expected to find at Stonehenge besides the ring of 'standing stones' that everyone knows that's all it is! 🙄 What else did you think might happen that might entertain you and why did you even go there in the first place? FFS! 🤔

Ruthdpl · 26/01/2026 18:23

Madeira. It was staid, boring, lacking in Mediterranean atmosphere and had no actual attractions. Sliding down a rocky slope on a sled anyone?
We were about 50 when we visited and would never recommend it. Unless you are walkers (apparently) there are much better places to visit.

St Kitts and Guernsey.

Guernsey is very much weather dependent and ok if you're en route to France/UK and only there briefly, but Jersey is much nicer in comparison.

Josselin is a town that has a couple of thousand people and actually, that includes the communes outside of town. It's tiny compared to Dinan, and Rennes has about 200,000 people. Castle, museum and church, of course, open year round.

I promise I don't work for the tourist board... Just very fond of it and, for a rural town of its size, objectively, there is quite a lot to do.

I’ve found this too in some really lovely towns both in UK and Europe - heard people say, there’s not that much to do - these often aren’t beachy places so I’m not sure what people are expecting ‘to do’ - they are places where people live and work and shop and just happen to be more attractive than the average — they are not Disney

Iceland was fantastic! I took 4 kids for 4 nights and 5 days. We arrived home shattered but had an incredible time. Went in February. Things we did included:

  1. Geyser to see the Geysers!
  2. The original Parliament Althing (founded in the 900s)
  3. The tomato greenhouses - run on hot steam
  4. Scuba dived (at 2degrees it was warmer in the water than out of it which was -7), between the American and Eurasian Plates
  5. A (still warm) lava field (I was originally a geologist)
  6. Ice creamery
  7. Loads of pastry places
  8. Their rocket ship cathedral
  9. Rainbow road
  10. Thermal spa (of course)
  11. Northern lights
  12. Whale watching (the only bit that was boring as we saw a tail and that was it! But that's wildlife for you - they don't perform!)
I couldn't have anyone say Iceland was boring! Expensive - Incredibly! but boring NO! @NetflixWithoutFriendsIsWrong if you want pictures to tempt you pm me! Kids were furious that I refused to visit the Iceland shop en route from the airport to our Airbnb

Seems a bit harsh expecting an island in the Atlantic to have a Mediterranean atmosphere.

A tie between Colindale (for business) and Telford (attended a conference weekend).

Made queuing at a supermarket checkout seem like a time of colour, wonder and pleasure.
