January Daily Accountability!

ThatWorthyNewt · 02/01/2026 08:38

Hi :) Is anyone interested in a thread where we post our daily to dos for January and update on what we managed to complete?

It doesn't have to be anything big, I think this is all about small steps and keeping plodding on through Jan. It's a good time to regroup and focus on what you want to do each day, with less mad dashes than December, and I need something to help me get back into the swing of things now Xmas is done. I also am quite nosy and like to see what little goals and habits people set themselves through the month...

I'll go first...today I need to:

  • Complete a work task I have been putting off
  • Go on a walk with my friend
  • Decide on what exercise classes I want to do this month and book them in

I'll update how this goes later!

Who's in?

i need to -

Thank you for starting this. I'm in.

I want to do:
One decluttering job each day - DONE already today
Walk a minimum of 10k steps a day
Do 50 squats and 10 mins bodyweight/weights workouts a day
Get back to journalling once a day.

Eggsley · 02/01/2026 14:48

I’m in! This year I’m trying to set smaller, more achievable goals and also make time for self-care.

Today I want to:

Take down Christmas decorations
Start reading a new book
Declutter - 5 items
Spend a bit of time on the DS as just started a new game (haven’t played for about 15 years)
Practice DS2’s spellings with him
Bed by 10.30pm, lights out by 11pm

Hope everyone is having a productive day!

ThatWorthyNewt · 02/01/2026 18:56

@Eggsley @InfiniteJester @Jugendstiel how did you all get on today? love the idea of small, achievable goals and self-care Eggsley.

What I managed to do....
🎉Made a solid start on my work task (I think I was over-ambitious in thinking I could complete it today as it's quite a difficult task for me, but managed to put some good focused hours in so I am pleased about that. I'll just have to keep going with it and eventually it will be done. Can't wait for it to be off my plate tbh)
🎉Went out for a walk with my friend- very cold but very nice blue skies.
🎉Planned out my exercise for Jan and got my classes sorted. I always procrastinate planning my exercise in, but I find it a lot easier to do things if it's on a set day at a set time so I'm happy to have sorted my calendar out a bit.

And now rewarding myself with some TV later and a cuppa! I think setting small goals for each day is really the way to go with this year. I've been thinking about how a good year is made up of all those actions you do each day. Doesn't have to be big, but being consistent and keeping moving! It's really nice to have people to keep me accountable.

Hope everyone managed to do at least one of their goals today :)

Can I join please? Have all sorts of lists in my head relating to January plans.
It's late now today but I had planned:

-dog walk
-buy some last minute gifts for visiting friends
-put this year's school dates and events inthe family calendar and my diaries
-start to try and think about holiday planning
-do a caroline girvan workout

Done all except the workout...

Morning everyone, clocking in for another day of to-dos. Dark Jan mornings are hard, but the full moon is looking gorgeous this morning (trying to find different things to be positive about in winter...!).

Today I need to:

  • Time block my day as I've got to fit in the below tasks
  • Carry on with work task
  • Attend an appointment
  • Get out in the fresh air for some exercise

Now clocking off to get on with my day, and I look forward to seeing how everyone has got on later. Have a good day everyone, if you didn't manage to do something yesterday, today is another opportunity :)

Didn’t mean to quote post but I can’t get rid of it in the app…

Good morning, @ThatWorthyNewt, I am so pleased we are continuing today. Agree, winter mornings are hard. The moon was beautiful last night. Will get up in a mo to look. The little things that keep us positive…

My days are a bit boring. Was going to cook lunch for DS today but he’s working. He might need a lift from me later, which is fine.

today:

  • Continue & hopefully finish work task
  • Walk
  • Tummy exercises
  • Decide whether to list Vinted things & do it
  • Return duplicate gifts to shop (maybe combined with DS lift)

Better go make coffee. Have a productive day!

JetFlight · 03/01/2026 08:34

I’m still in holiday mode but will join here properly on Monday.
my to do list today is
-caring duties
-supermarket shop
-cleaning

RobinTheCavewoman · 03/01/2026 08:41

I'm not well so for now am reading your lists for ideas! Finch is a good free app for daily tasks - a bit like keeping a tamagotchi alive by ticking off items on your to-do list.
Today is just shower and maybe 5 mins outside.

Eggsley · 03/01/2026 13:32

Afternoon all!

Yesterday I took all the Christmas decorations down and hoovered downstairs, played on the DS for about 20 minutes, practiced DS2’s spellings with him, and was in bed by 10.45, lights off by 11.30pm. I’m a late night person so trying to be stricter and go to bed earlier this year. Didn’t declutter 5 items or read any of my book but quite pleased with the bits I did get done.

@ThatWorthyNewtI have spent too many years having big New Year’s resolutions and failing them all, so I’m going for little things this year to see if it’s more achievable. After 15 years of putting the DC first, it’s also time to take a bit of time to look after myself as well. So supplements, fresh air/walks, eyebrows and nails this year. Well done on getting stuck into your work task, hopefully it will be easier to get back to now it’s started!

Today:
Remember to take supplements - done 2 out of 4.
Tesco for dinner for tonight and tomorrow, and lunch stuff for Monday - done
DS2s football - done but was called off when we got there, but it got me up and out the house early at least!
Start reading my book
Declutter - 5 items
Spellings with DS2
Bed by 10.30, lights off by 11

Not much on the list for today and tomorrow as it’s my last couple of days off. Back to work on Monday and I know it’s going to be super busy so I’m trying to take this weekend to rest as much as I can, in the hope that I can start the week off with some energy!

@RobinTheCavewomanI hope you are feeling better soon.

Hope everyone is having a productive day.

ThatWorthyNewt · 03/01/2026 19:44

Nice to see everyone's updates! and hope you feel better @RobinTheCavewoman and great to have you join @JetFlight .

Today I managed to keep going at my work task, attended my appointment and went for a lovely jog in the fresh air. Last night when I was going to bed I felt really tired and a bit blah...The thought of Xmas over and the Winter scaries kicking in! But today doing those tasks and knowing I can reward myself by relaxing this evening really helped.

Looking forward to seeing how your day's went, and hope everyone's enjoying their last few bits of time off before Monday. Baby steps through January + totally agree @Eggsley with prioritising some self-care :)

InfiniteJester · 03/01/2026 20:44

My update:

Continue & hopefully finish work task
Did a bit more

Walk
Did 5 km!

Tummy exercises
Not today

list Vinted things
Did this!

Return duplicate gifts to shop
Did this!

another productive day. Wow thank you, OP!

TeamToeBeans · 03/01/2026 23:49

Hello, I’d like to join in please 🙂 I’m back at work on Monday, so by my reckoning January doesn’t really start until then, but the decorations are all put away, except for the tree - it’s boxed up but I need a hand getting it into the loft, so that’s a job for tomorrow.

The other jobs for tomorrow are:
Fish tank maintenance
Clean bathroom
Plan meals for the coming week

On a more general note, cleaning is my downfall, so the thing I’d really like to achieve this year is to keep the house tidy and keep on top of cleaning. It doesn’t need to be show-home standard, just be presentable if unexpected visitors turn up.

ThatWorthyNewt · 04/01/2026 07:19

Good morning everyone, nice to have you here @TeamToeBeans and I'm glad you had another productive day @InfiniteJester ! Last day before back to work, what's everyone planning on getting done? I have a few bits and bobs and I definitely want to get through these before Monday. But I'm also going to do a little self care evening for myself later once I've got through it!

Today's to do:

  • A couple of hours on admin tasks on computer
  • Put Xmas decs away (partner packed them up but I need to put the boxes away)
  • Meal plan + write shopping list + go food shopping
  • Put a washing load on
  • A walk of some kind! (not sure how long the above will take today so I'm just setting the goal of min. 5 minutes outdoors walking in the fresh air)

Usually prefer a bit of a slower Sunday, but some of this just needs to get done before Monday. I will have my chilled out time tonight though!

Hope everyone has a good day and gets some things they want to done. If anyone's got any self care ideas for things they do on Winter evenings I'd love to hear :)

Eggsley · 04/01/2026 11:54

Morning all,

Had quite a lazy day yesterday and ended up going to bed late but today is a new day, so on the list for today is:

DS2’s spellings (he has a big spelling test tomorrow)
Write up our new wall calendar with the info I have for the new year, I can then get rid of last year’s calendar
Decide what I’m wearing for work tomorrow, including jewellery, so it’s not a rush in the morning.
Plus the usual - lunch, dinner, DS2 bath and bedtime.

Having a quiet day today as I know next week will be manic - back to work, back to school for DS x 2, period due on Sad, need to take an elderly parent to a hospital appointment in another town so will need to take a half day off work but the work will still need doing - so taking it easy today in the hope I don’t start tomorrow stressed out!

@ThatWorthyNewtself care stuff that I have been trying to do a bit more of - face mask before bed about once a month, using a heated eye mask before bed if I’m tired and stressed (great for tired eyes!), painting my nails on a Sunday night (although I’ve still got Christmas gels on atm), early nights (I definitely need to do this - from tonight it’s bed by 10.00, lights off by 10.30, so hopefully I’ll be able to get up a bit easier in the morning!). Any ideas welcome though.

Will post later with tomorrow’s plan - hope everyone is having a productive day!

ThatWorthyNewt · 04/01/2026 19:56

Evening everyone and hope you got on well with your tasks today @TeamToeBeans and @Eggsley .

Today I:
😬Attempted admin tasks on computer but I did get quite distracted this morning, will return to this another day + resolve to be more focused!
✅Put away the Xmas decs boxes in the loft.
✅Completed the meal plan and food shop and meal prepped some veg for the week.
✅Just popped a little load of washing on
✅And managed to do a little half an hour walk, although not in any great natural surroundings..definitely notice more of a mood boost if i exercise in nature

Before bed I want to lay out my work clothes and gym clothes ahead of tomorrow, and my water bottle as well. But for now I'm going to have a shower to wash away the day and relax. My condolences about the period on its way @Eggsley me tooooo 😵absolutely exhausted.

Tomorrow's task list as I likely won't get a chance in the morning with work starting. Keeping it realistic :

  • 30 minute exercise session
  • Last push on a work task I've been attempting for days!

Good luck everyone tomorrow. And I look forward to seeing what goals and habits people managed to get done! Just keeping on going and focusing on each day...

Reading this is like reading my daily whatsapp to myself of what I need to do each day!!

InfiniteJester · 04/01/2026 20:17

Evening all,

I’ve done a have-done rather than a to-do list today.

  1. Looong walk & abs exercises
  2. Took action on work task
  3. Washing & folded away
  4. Packed away Christmas decorations

A very long winter’s day, but nicely settled for the week ahead.

VERY well done @ThatWorthyNewtespecially on the realistic exercises!

Eggsley · 04/01/2026 22:26

Well done @ThatWorthyNewtand @InfiniteJester you both had productive days! Sorry to hear that you are also approaching that time of the month @ThatWorthyNewt, I have got the pre-period headache this evening which will no doubt persist tomorrow as well. Grrr.

I sorted our calendar and did the other bits on my list, plus did a to-do list for tomorrow. I’ve made it to bed for 10pm, lights will be out at 10.30 so I need to get a move on with this post!

Tomorrow I want to:
Get up at 6am so I’ve got time to sort packed lunches and sort my hair/makeup and so I’m not rushing to work
Drink 2 litres of water
Get out of the office for a walk at lunchtime
Do 30 mins on the treadmill in the evening
Bed by 10pm, lights out by 10.30pm
Remember to take my supplements, I take three no problem but keep forgetting about the other two.

Wishing everyone an stress-free and productive Monday!

HolyMoly24 · 04/01/2026 22:27

Love this, i’ll check in tomorrow

Brilliant idea for a thread @ThatWorthyNewt thank you. I've joined a few different threads for various things they move so fast and finding it a bit of a faff to keep up with a lot of different threads having the one thread for everything is fab for me.

Today's list

Food shop
Take down Christmas decorations
YouTube exercise
Hand/face cream before bed
Bed no later than 11pm
Stick to dry January

Have a good Monday everyone Grin
