Light hearted. I know it’s not the end of the world.

So Sainsburys have emailed.

no spiced red cabbage and they’ve substituted cauliflower cheese for it (yuck)

no pigs in blankets and they’ve substituted sausage rolls instead 🤷🏻‍♀️

no giant smarties tube and they’ve substituted white smarties. No thanks

no nice crisps and they’ve substituted horrible crisps.

eleven things missing in total. Looks like I’m going to have to actually visit a supermarket 😆

Champagne flutes for me. I’m going to have to actually go to the shops now.

Roleonspring · 21/12/2025 09:04

Tesco coming today substituted the gluten free bread rolls and the bakery loaf for a Warburtons loaf.
A couple of short date items. I'll keep the gluten free pastries and freeze but send the humous back as I cant eat two tubs in two days.
I'd already bought meat, sausage and bacon to make the pigs in blankets so really it was a normal shop (just more as we're home all week).
So not too bad from Tesco.

Teenagerantruns · 21/12/2025 09:05

Everything came in mine, but some of veg was a bit past its best so will probably go out next week. I booked a slot to late so had to have it delivered on Friday.

epicpaydat · 21/12/2025 09:05

Ah that’s frustrating OP, I always book our slot early enough in the day so we have time to pop out! I will report back when it arrives on Tues, we’ve been pretty lucky the last few years…

Tip from me though, do an additional shop earlier in December when the deals are on but not as close and order everything that doesn’t have a short shelf life like the crisps, reduces the disappointment!

Tintackedsea · 21/12/2025 09:07

NO WINE

(also no cucumber but that’s less of an issue…)

gingercat02 · 21/12/2025 09:51

The only subs on my Morrisons shop yesterday was booze. A smaller bottle of Bailey's for the same price as the 1l, and a tiny bottle of Amaretto. They went back.
My actual Christmas shop is lunchtime Christmas Eve.

BallerinaFall · 21/12/2025 09:54

No red cabbage in a click and collect. Reckon I can probably dash in and grab one though.

Instructions · 21/12/2025 09:54

No alcohol free beer

No Roses (swapped for Heroes)

The wrapping paper has been substituted for squashmallows paper apparently so I'll hand that back

I ordered the biggest leg of lamb but seem to be getting a small one

All said, nothing I can't sort out before Christmas Day itself but I'm a bit irritated about the lamb!

Snackpocket · 21/12/2025 09:57

Mine is coming Tuesday lunchtime. I’m working my husband isn’t so if anything important is missing I’ll be sending him
out to get it!

Thedogswhiskers · 21/12/2025 10:01

No Maris piper potatoes

xAwaywiththefairiesx · 21/12/2025 10:18

I don't do orders at Christmas. I can't be doing with the stress of it.

I do get that going to a shop in the week leading up to Christmas is extremely stressful but I'm going to end up there anyway as the supermarket will only miss half my stuff off so I might as well just go and pick my own substitutions if need be.

This year I wasn't able to get a single packet of Tesco own butter so had to buy lurpack and now I need to re-mortgage.

shellyleppard · 21/12/2025 10:21

@BallerinaFall cabbage, carrots, potato, swede and parsnips are 5 pence a bag in Aldi, same as Tesco and Morrisons

Crunchymum · 21/12/2025 10:23

Mine is coming 10am on Christmas Eve, although I plan to grab the essentials over the next few days (pigs in blankets, turkey, pork, stuffing etc) as I'm not going to expect any of the important stuff to actually turn up 😳

We're not even home on Christmas Day, I'm doing our dinner on Boxing day (and worse case the Sainsburys is open Boxing Day)

DilemmaDelilah · 21/12/2025 10:26

Mine wasn't really a Christmas shop as we're going away for Christmas, but there was some party food on there for when we got back.

No frozen chopped onion, substituted with frozen sliced red onion which is NOT the same and always has bits of root and skin in it. The chopped onion is a staple for me. That went back.
No mozzarella and garlic dough balls, substituted with garlic bread. Nice, but not the same thing. That went back.
No frozen onion bhajis, substituted with a mixed Indian selection. If I had wanted that I would have ordered that. So that went back.

I'm going to do the rounds of the supermarkets (there are 3 all in very close proximity) on our way back from our Christmas holiday to pick up party food and bargains, so hopefully I will get everything I need then.

PodMom · 21/12/2025 10:30

Popped into the coop. No smarties and no prepped red cabbage or even any cabbages. Did get crisps and a pork pie though 👍🏻

OccasionalHope · 21/12/2025 10:31

all mine came, but I forgot to order the pigs in blankets...

epicpaydat · 21/12/2025 10:32

@DilemmaDelilahi haven’t been able to get frozen chopped onion from our local sainsburys for months. I’ve been on the verge of emailing them to ask WTF is going on but been too worried about how that looks on me 🤣

ilovepixie · 21/12/2025 10:33

Turkey! Ordered from Sainsbury’s Christmas food. Got an email to say the Turkey crown wasn’t available!

ProfessorIDareSay · 21/12/2025 10:34

No After Eights on my Ocado delivery. This is a tragedy as I now have to go to a shop. Think I will send DH.

TulipTuesday · 21/12/2025 10:40

I’ve learnt from the past that ready done red cabbage and often pigs in blankets are hard to get this close to the big day.
I buy in advance and freeze them now.

My Christmas order is coming on the 23rd, hoping that everything is there but I’ll have time to pop back out if anything’s missing.

DancingNotDrowning · 21/12/2025 10:44

No pigs in blankets but they warned me of that in advance and no cauliflower or cashew nuts.

i still need to go into M&S on Tuesday to get my food collection so I’ll pick up the rest of the fresh bits there. The shelves will be heaving. They always are

DilemmaDelilah · 21/12/2025 10:44

@epicpaydat I've had problems with getting chopped onions as well, so when I do find them I get several packs. I couldn't order frozen peas either! There were none at all available to order from Morrisons. Luckily I found a small packet in the freezer and I will just get some after Christmas. I think the supermarkets are stocking less of the ordinary stuff in order to have room for the fancy Christmas food.

Hmmmmwineandchocs · 21/12/2025 10:52

No tub of roses and no bake at home white bloomer. That’s it so far, it’s due Tuesday so who knows what will fall off the list by then.

TangoWhiskeyAlphaTango123 · 21/12/2025 10:57

Tesco are usually good (have curse myself now), mine is arriving tomorrow morning and praying to the Gods it all arrives as working 23rd / 24th with no time to pop to the shops. 🙏

Greentrilby · 21/12/2025 11:03

Order arrived last night without red wine, soda water, oranges, tequila, and rosemary. Can’t be bothered to go to the shops today snd am working Monday - Wednesday. Going to give DH and eldest DD the choice of doing without or one of them going to the shops.
