Just horrendous. There was a big Jewish gathering on the beach. Jewish festival goers targeted by two gunmen. At least ten people dead according to police.

Utterly despicable.

The world is engaged in a religious war now, isn't it. It's going on all over. It would have happened in Germany today if the police hadn't foiled it.

All so dreadful, and I am not sure how best governments should deal with it. Presumably it's difficult to foil these lone-wolf attacks. (As opposed to attackers who are part of a network and who might have informants, and maybe communications that can be listened in to.)

I fear that it's only going to get worse. It's polarising.

I'm going to question why on earth they were allowed to do that?
It's hate speech. I'm sure Australia has appropriate laws?

Horrible things are shouted at those awful marches all over the world. Australia isn’t unique.

All that was done was that Jewish people were warned to avoid the area. It's fucked up.

That's very true. Good point.
I saw some of those placards and banners that were paraded through London.
No wonder Jews don't feel safe.

Quite a few of us saying that the pigs heads are awful are Jewish, myself included.

It's because we, of all people, know that attacking all members of a religion because of the actions of a few members of that religion is despicable.

On 9 October 2023, two days after the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust, a rally was held on the steps of the Sydney Opera House in an attempt to prevent Jews from gathering in solidarity to mourn the massacres carried out by Hamas. NSW Police advised the Jewish community not to attend the CBD out of fear for their safety.

On Friday 2 February, NSW Police said that, as a result of forensic analysis of the audio-visual files, it found no evidence that the phrase ‘gas the Jews’ was chanted at this rally.

Let us be clear – no matter the findings of NSW Police with respect to whether “gas the Jews” was in fact chanted, “fuck the Jews” and “where are the Jews” were chanted at this same rally.

While numerous eyewitnesses heard the crowd chant ‘gas the Jews’ (and signed statutory declarations to that effect), we understand and respect the difficult position police forces across the nation are finding themselves

InlandTaipan · 15/12/2025 08:22

Retaliation is the act of attacking someone who has harmed you. Neither the pigs heads nor the shooting were about retaliation. One was antisemitism and the other islamophobia - driven by prejudice and hatred.

And no, their severity should not be equated, nor will they be if the perpetrators are ever brought to justice.

There was another thread recently where some posters were determined to paint Ireland as a horrific anti Jewish country.

I lived in Australia up to recently enough. It never struck me as a particularly anti-any religion kind of a place. But you get nutters the world over grabbing guns and shooting into crowds. It's horrific. But it's usually people with mental health issues we'll say who are the perpetrators.

Yes, and you were laughing at antisemitism in Ireland in between compating Jewish people to Nazis.

I think people are just overwhelmed by yet more awfulness after the awfulness of the last few hours. All of it is just terrible.

About importing beliefs, the vast, vast majority of immigrants - of all stripes - work hard and live peaceably. Let's not conflate them with the evil nutters.

Good grief. Just horrific. So much vile hatred.

I don’t think it is a few members anymore. It has gained momentum and followers along the way on both sides, people who were not interested in religion or extremism are getting involved.
Bondi beach is one of many more to come. Hate breeding hate. Hate from Christian and Muslim people towards each other.

I think two years of listening to people yelling wishes for my death has made me immune to any surprise. And the meeting with the school where they suggested my daughter just not mention she was Jewish and then maybe the boys would stop harassing her. Which was super stupid advice as the all knew she was Jewish and also she has ever right to be. I really appreciate any support - we are too little to do it all ourselves, we need allies!

Here's a cyber-hug for you: (((((PurpleThistle7))))

And some flowers 💐💐💐

And a cup of tea 🫖☕

And a teddy 🧸

I don't wish for your death.

This kind of things can fuck right off
Hate from Christian and Muslim people towards each other.

Stop trying to equate things that can't be equated.

Daily Fail?

By whom would be my second question.

Right-wing twats unassociated with either Jews or Muslims but exploiting the situation.

Staringintothevoid616 · 15/12/2025 08:37

I’m not sure though why everyone is so surprised at the clash of Islam with Judaism and Christianity. If you accept they are all objectively made up religions designed with a purpose (you can believe what you like about Gabriel appearing to vulnerable hormonal panicking young women or a man without purpose delirious from fasting in a dark cave) but both can’t be right so let’s go with the sensible choice of neither are.
So we have to look at the purpose. Whilst Christianity started most likely as people gathering behind a very charismatic revolutionary Rabbi, whose teachings got retold/rewritten decades after his death, Merged with the thoughts and agenda of a Jewish mystic, most likely with PTSD, then coopted by a megalomaniac Roman leader. It became a way of uniting and controlling a large empire. That purpose has now all but disappeared so were largely left with the fluffy bits.

Similarly the purpose of Islam was to conquer and unite territories, most specifically the passage yo the Mediterranean (always follow the power and money with any religion) therefore its rules are specifically designed to conquer and convert Christian and Jewish lands and people - hence the whole convert/pay taxes/die scenario, jihad and marking its territory at Jewish/christian holy sites. the whole reversion not conversion is a stroke of genius in the story, you have to acknowledge that. So put a religion specifically designed to conquer Christian and Jewish land snd people in a Christian or Jewish environment- what do you think will happen?

Of course individuals of any religion can live easily side by side if they see just see it as a personal faith and ignore a lot of the rules. But some faiths are specially designed from the outset not to do that The best thing is (as many Christian denominations have done) is explain away some of the more problematic areas so as to make it more compatible with modern life and living with other cultures. The problem, of course is that anyone can see what’s actually there, Religions just need to get the majority of followers not to believe it, no matter how ridiculous that is (see CofE denouncing Tommy Robinson for using religion for political aims and reducing foreign power over the UK - how they said that with a straight face God only knows)

Sadly, it is in sub-Saharan Africa.
Christians in another Nigeria are being targeted, for example.
Edited to add, Muslim against Christian, specifically.

Sorry to jump on. Excluding the government and a few pockets of society.
People in Ireland who I have spoken to have a pain in their arse with the government constantly deflecting issues, supporting Palestine blindly, there has been a couple of terror plots uncovered n Ireland , a priest stabbed on an army base by a young radical.
3 gay men attacked, 2 of them died by a radical who had 340,000.00 euros in his drawer, unaccounted for when arrested.
The largest mosque in Dublin is closed down since April due to internal conflict.
I assure you that there is a level of fear here too.
The morning call to prayer blasts the streets.
It is a scary time for good people caught in the middle.

Yes. I think there in 'The West' a total collective head in the sand about what a 'Global Caliphate' means. It's not rhetoric, it's intention.

No, I was talking about the subject of this thread.
I know the issue in certain African nations.
This massacre was not about Christian v Muslim.
