Last week I was in hospital with pneumonia and pleurisy, came out on Thursday morning.
As it's a lovely day here, DH and I went for a short walk.
On the way back I somehow tripped and knocked myself out.
Came around in an ambulance on the way to hospital. DH went home to get the car to follow me.
The embarrassing part was I'd dirtied myself both ways.
Got to hospital and I was taken into a side cubicle so they could clean me up, the health care assistant was
only our DDS friend. I was crying and she was so kind and trying to calm me down.
Still don't know how I tripped but have also broken my arm, bashed my nose and scraped my face.
Still in hospital awaiting a scan on my head.

Please cheer me up with your embarrassing stories.

Thats sounds both very concerning and absolutely mortifying

You'll also have to move to an entirely different continent

ChloeMorningstar · 30/11/2025 15:37

The heath care assistant will see stuff like this every day. Dont worry.

DuchessDandelion · 30/11/2025 15:38

Oh you poor thing, I would be mortified too but she will have seen it before and understand it was because you were injured. You'll start to feel better when you've recovered physically a bit.

It might help you if you take her some flowers to say thanks for looking after you, and tell her you feel. Addressing it openly with her will take much of the sting out of it.

Zippidydoodah · 30/11/2025 15:38

Oh, bless you ❤️ I’m sure the healthcare assistant has seen it all before- and worse! It’s all in a day’s work for her.

i hope you’re ok 💐

Imfat · 30/11/2025 15:38

@SamphiretheTervosauris Australia far enough away.

FuriousInventions · 30/11/2025 15:39

They’ll have seen this a million times before. And the HCA would’ve seen it again (probably multiple times) before she even finished that shift. Don’t give it a second thought because I’m sure she won’t have.

Focus your thoughts on feeling better - wishing you a speedy recovery.

CalmShaker · 30/11/2025 15:40

That really stinks op but you'll look back and turn the other cheek one day

God no! Contact Elon Musk because it’ll have to be the other side of Mars. And that’s only while you’re waiting for the shuttle to Neptune. In the meantime can you put paper bags over your head when you go out? Or just not go out?

I felt really strange at a youth football match, couple of the mums helped me to the clubhouse and laid me on the floor. When I came to, there were lots of people around me including the club chairman who had travelled from home on hearing the news - I must’ve been unconscious a while! They were on the phone to the ambulance. The match had been stopped and two teams of teenagers, referee and other parents were just waiting around. I was taken to the ambulance in a wheelchair, with a blanket round my head and shoulders. When I was better, I told my son I’d felt like ET wrapped in the blanket. He was looking to study medicine (so obviously I believed him 🙄) and told me it was commonly known at “ET-ing it”. I bought a tub of chocolates for each team and wrote a card saying thanks for the support “when I ET-ed it”. Son then told me he’d made that up 😂😂
Funnily enough, tomorrow I’m meeting the friend who looked white as a sheet when I came round!

You clearly didn’t read the op properly then.

And I’m not your “mate”

I was an older than average uni student (25) and went partying with some of the youngsters (20yos). We ended up doing shots and got very drunk and decided that we should have a race with the blokes carrying the females on their backs. It was fine for a bit and but then my "stallion" fell at a fence and I went backwards off him, slamming my head on the pavement. I was ok for a bit but started to get incredibly whoozy and out of concern my friends got me to the hospital. So there I was worse for wear and everyone thinking I had a concussion when the doctor came in to check me. And yes it was a friend of mine from school, a dreadfully bright guy who had already completed his medical degree.

He ended up being my brother's cardiac surgeon but I've managed to avoid him ever since. Sweetly, he has always asked after me when my brother has had an appointment.

Awards dinner. Slipped on spilt beer in front of my ex boss. Flashed my thigh buster old lady knickers.
I gave up drinking soon after.

Gliblet · 30/11/2025 16:19

I worked alongside nurses for a while, they had a sort of running competition for who had had to extract the weirdest thing that someone had inserted as a sex toy and got stuck in there, so someone who was recovering from an illness and had a nasty fall won't even register on their 'embarrassing stuff' radar. I never once heard any of them laughing at anyone who'd soiled themselves.

For anyone wondering, when I left, a marmite jar full of peanuts and a barbie doll without its head were tied for first place.

Imfat · 30/11/2025 16:20

Just got the results of my scan. Fractured skull. Will be kept in overnight as a precaution.
First job for DH in the morning is to go shopping for the biggest mask or paper bag.
If not then to look up Elon Musks phone number to ask if he'll send me to Mars.

Why are you trying to argue and derail OPs thread.

OP I am a Nurse and honestly we see so many things this would not even register in my brain. My most embarrassing story when from when I was around 14 and at a school disco nobody was on the dance floor yet. A friend asked me to ask to DJ to play a certain song so I did, a lad from my year ran up behind me and pulled my skirt and pants down in front of everyone. I already had no confidence and wished to god the ground had swallowed me up, the bastard thought it was hilarious.

Observed · 30/11/2025 16:22

I fell over on a trail run recently and cut my face and leg badly. I felt a complete idiot but my friends who were with me couldn’t have been kinder: they rang my DH and got him to pick me up. I didn’t soil myself thankfully but I did feel very embarrassed and vulnerable.

Perhaps you were still a bit wobbly after being so ill? It can happen to anyone so try not to be so hard on yourself. I’d do as a PP suggested and take your DD’s friend flowers and thank her. Hope you feel better soon.

OP, you poor thing! I bet you're feeling right sore, what a month you've had! Let's hope that is really the end of the pain and nasty for a very very long time..
I had pleurisy when I was in late teens, boy, that hurts and you have my sympathies as to what you've been through.

As for stories, not much and a bit dull I suppose. I used to be a punk in my youth, mohawk and everything. In Sister Rays alternative night club in Brighton, I was desperately trying to look cool as you do. Little did I know, thanks to my friends not telling me for ages and laughing, that I had a long line of toilet paper hanging from my knickers. Been dancing on the dance floor too with that for all to see.

Anyway, send hubby out for a huge roll of bubble wrap too, so can not get hurt again. Rest well!

Imfat · 30/11/2025 16:23

@Glibletthat has made me laugh. We were getting a Barbie doll for our great niece as a Christmas present.
