Food that doesn't taste the same as it used to

Ritz crackers.
What in the name of feck did they do to them?
Where are those crispy, crunchy, salty circles of deliciousness?
Instead we have slightly off, stale tasting discs of disappointment.

I know from others that McVitie's Chocolate Digestives are also on the gone downhill list.
Anything else?

Heinz Sandwich Spread - fancied a bite of nostalgia and was bitterly disappointed.

puffylovett · 25/11/2025 21:06

Caramacs! They used to be my nap time treat, now they just taste like sludge

appletre1 · 25/11/2025 21:06

@JoyintheMorningdefo breakfast cereals have dramatically changed! I remember the cereal in my youth Kelloggs risicales and toppers frosted wheat

Findus Crispy Pancakes.
Capri Sun

Do those still exist?! Is there a market for them?Who are those people?

tobee · 25/11/2025 21:07

Everything that has artificial sweeteners added to non sugar free items

Everything that has palm oil added

Plain digestives are totally different now

tobee · 25/11/2025 21:08

Generally speaking when you get a "new recipe" advertised on a product it's invariably worse.

victormeldrewcantbelieveit · 25/11/2025 21:09

Cherry brandy ice lollies from the ice cream van.

tobee · 25/11/2025 21:10

I think the thing is @DuchessofStaffordshire if you want those things it's for a nostalgia hit and if they taste different....

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 25/11/2025 21:10

Super noodles

potato waffles

lucozade.

Guettybetty · 25/11/2025 21:11

Milkyway rolls! They are so disgusting now.
And Cadbury puds. In my memory of these they had a real Christmas pudding taste , but now they’re just a waxy noisette. Didn’t they used to have a deep dried fruity rich flavour?

Smarties - guessing they removed the sugar from the casing but that was so nice. Just flavourless now. I get health reasons but I’d rather sugar that I can purposefully limit than sweetener crap.

Do the orange ones still taste of orange?

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 25/11/2025 20:31

Potatoes. They all just taste of nothing now, or they're earthy and bitter.

The other thing I've noticed recently is that full fat milk isn't creamy any more and seems hardly any different from semi-skimmed.

We get our milk delivered in glass bottles from a local farm and the whole milk is very creamy!

tobee · 25/11/2025 21:14

Probably temporary but bananas are all green at the moment and garlic bulbs are all dried out and mouldy. Or maybe that's just Tesco

JoyintheMorning · 25/11/2025 21:17

A Cadbury milk chocolate bar had only 20% cocoa solids. Yuck!
Sainsbury Dark choc with hazelnuts 55% cocoa. No contest imo

mum2jakie · 25/11/2025 21:17

Pringles.
Used to be so moreish, no I can easily say no.

Edited

I've noticed this. You end up chucking most of the bulb away. Also, they sound seem to leave onions to dry sufficiently so they end up mouldy with soggy, rotten parts in the middle

HarryTheMoose · 25/11/2025 21:18

Honey. Unless you buy a £10 jar of real honey.
Supermarket honey tastes like syrup.

Smellslikeperfume · 25/11/2025 21:18

Pringles. Weird the ones from this week

I think the Covent Garden mushroom soup is the only one worth buying now. Surely won't be long before they cock that one up too.

I think they cocked that up a few years ago! It's not awful, but they've replaced a lot of the mushroom with rice and some other filler that gives it a gloopy consistency. It used to be delicious, and now it's just ok.

hexsnidgett · 25/11/2025 21:23

Strawberries.

BogRollBOGOF · 25/11/2025 21:28

Anything with palm oil.
Anything with sugar swapped for artificial sweeteners.
Anything that's had the salt reduced.

I suppose it's reduced the tempation to eat junky treats because they're invariably disappointing.

Even DH has asked me not to buy a tub of Quality Street/ Roses for Christmas!

Badslipperluck · 25/11/2025 20:01

Definitely tomatoes. Some of them used to actually taste of tomatoes but now even when I buy the fancy heirloom ones they're crap watery mush.

Im finding they go mouldy really quickly. I chuck out at least one per pack.

ManyATrueWord · 25/11/2025 21:32

Sweetshop sweets. They all have corn syrup in now instead of sugar. Not nice.

Chazbots · 25/11/2025 21:35

I bought some Co-op doughnuts last weekend. The ingredient list was like a chemistry lesson gone wrong. Wtf is a humectant? Custard flavour, apparently, don't think it was anything like custard. Disgusting.

Okiedokie123 · 25/11/2025 21:39

I can’t see that anyone has said McDonalds fries yet?
No longer the delectable sticks of salty junk that I used to love.
Im convinced they’ve removed almost all the salt. I’ve tried adding sachets of salt and shaking but its not the same.
(also - avoid the sour cream and black pepper one’s available atm. They are vile!)
