Food that doesn't taste the same as it used to

Ritz crackers.
What in the name of feck did they do to them?
Where are those crispy, crunchy, salty circles of deliciousness?
Instead we have slightly off, stale tasting discs of disappointment.

I know from others that McVitie's Chocolate Digestives are also on the gone downhill list.
Anything else?

Findus crispy pancakes were always awful ,I remember when they came out and the cheese ones smelt like sick.

The beef mince ones kept me going through uni 🫣

fluffiphlox · 25/11/2025 22:45

Heinz Tomato Soup

rainbowsparkle28 · 25/11/2025 22:51

Bread, pastries, crackers, the list goes on….(coeliac disease, yes, I’m looking at you 👀) Most of the time don’t think too much about what you’re missing out on but god do I wish sometimes I could waltz into Lidl bakery et. al - other supermarkets are available - and demolish it all 😩😭

They used to have a hint of sweetness about them and now they taste like a damp attic.

😂 I love that. Well done @MyCatLovesCardboard

Crisps
Cheddaries
Coca cola
7 Up (is spectacularly vile)
Sprite
Bacon ... it's so hard to find any that's decent

It's all so disappointing.

Do you have a butcher near you? Mine dry-cures (and smokes) his own. It's delicious with none of the gunky white stuff when you cook it. A tad more expensive but totally worth it.

Nerdynerdynerd · 25/11/2025 23:17

Ribena
Smarties
Ice pops
E numbers...

JellyIegs · 25/11/2025 23:18

Milkyway rolls! They are so disgusting now.
And Cadbury puds. In my memory of these they had a real Christmas pudding taste , but now they’re just a waxy noisette. Didn’t they used to have a deep dried fruity rich flavour?

I loved Puds and don’t like fruit cake/similar at all, so think they can’t have had that flavour at least when I was growing up in the 90s. Agree though that they are a bit waxy/flavourless now.

ScreamingBeans · 25/11/2025 23:40

Toffee crisps. Used to be my favourite totally ruined.

Marks and Spencer's Belgian chocolate covered peanuts. Utterly destroyed somehow I don't know how

shellyleppard · 25/11/2025 23:45

Cadbury dairy milk, Terry's chocolate orange.... they just taste bleughh now. Only chocolate that has any real taste is dark chocolate. Also Frazzles and mccoys.....tooo salty 😕

ScreamingBeans · 25/11/2025 23:46

TeenLifeMum · 25/11/2025 20:20

Smarties - guessing they removed the sugar from the casing but that was so nice. Just flavourless now. I get health reasons but I’d rather sugar that I can purposefully limit than sweetener crap.

Oh yes Smarties have been ruined

shellyleppard · 25/11/2025 23:46

Can I also add mini cheddars.... they used to taste really lovely. Now its an artificial taste.... I've stopped buying them sigh

Oxo01 · 25/11/2025 23:56

Cream soda and ginger beer.

GinkoRebelFoxes · 26/11/2025 00:09

Fentiman’s ginger beer. Now uses sweeteners and tastes disgusting. Same with San Pellegrino.

Mydadsbirthday · 26/11/2025 00:11

Cream soda, full of artificial sweetener now

mummymetalhead · 26/11/2025 00:13

Cadbury chocolate used to be the absolute elite and now it tastes awful.

Texanchilli · 26/11/2025 00:19

Chocolate. It doesn’t taste of anything now and the texture is weird. Doesn’t stop me from eating it though!

Nutella. I had bonne maman chocolate and hazelnut spread recently and that tastes like the Nutella of my childhood.

whynotwhatknot · 26/11/2025 00:19

everything

fanta
crisps oh its baked for my benefit-fuck off i want fried

ghostiewhisp · 26/11/2025 00:19

Okiedokie123 · 25/11/2025 21:39

I can’t see that anyone has said McDonalds fries yet?
No longer the delectable sticks of salty junk that I used to love.
Im convinced they’ve removed almost all the salt. I’ve tried adding sachets of salt and shaking but its not the same.
(also - avoid the sour cream and black pepper one’s available atm. They are vile!)

Funnily I’ve recently started wanting to add salt to my McDonald’s fries and I’ve never done that before, I did wonder if it was just me craving salt or if they had cut back

MoonWoman69 · 26/11/2025 00:24

Weetabix. Tough to chew, doesn't have the same softness it used to have. It's gone really hard and tough and it hurts your teeth! Used to be my favourite cereal, but not any more.

TheWibble · 26/11/2025 00:29

SatsumaCandlesCloves · 25/11/2025 19:52

Bread and chickens .

Only in france or Italy so they taste ok and I try and get higher welfare here or free range and occasionally organic

I came to say chicken too. It's just not very chicken-y anymore.

Another one is Ribena. I don't often have soft drinks, but used to love a Ribena. Now even the one that isn't sugar free is full of artificial sweetners. It's disgusting.

HatStickBoots · 26/11/2025 00:43

Heinz baked beans are tasteless and there’s an imbalance of bean skins and liquid. I discovered the brand Suma and their beans are the complete opposite and very tasty.
Heinz spaghetti hoops taste nothing like they did in the 70s
Twix and Mars bars are very disappointing now. I barely eat chocolate now because of the way it’s changed but indulged in some at Halloween. I used to love Fry’s Turkish delight and bought one especially but needn’t have bothered. I don’t think Fry’s exists anymore.
I thought it was just me getting unlucky with the dry garlic!

2021x · 26/11/2025 00:46

I live in NZ and my dad asks me send the local chocolate we have here because it tastes how Dairy Milk used to taste. The cadburys here is awful though, it tastes like wax.

Side note- I loved cheesy crispy pancakes and boil in the bag fish in butter sauce.

FluffAndBrush · 26/11/2025 00:54

I would pay extra for 1990s Cadbury and Ribena.

FluffAndBrush · 26/11/2025 00:58

Badslipperluck · 25/11/2025 20:01

Definitely tomatoes. Some of them used to actually taste of tomatoes but now even when I buy the fancy heirloom ones they're crap watery mush.

I suspect our soil is more nutritious thue gives more flavour and imported fruit and beg is bland as the soil has nothing in it.
