Food that doesn't taste the same as it used to

Ritz crackers.
What in the name of feck did they do to them?
Where are those crispy, crunchy, salty circles of deliciousness?
Instead we have slightly off, stale tasting discs of disappointment.

I know from others that McVitie's Chocolate Digestives are also on the gone downhill list.
Anything else?

@Terrribletwos I completely agree about bread. Tastes of dust and wind. For a while I bought the more expensive bakery section loaves but now they are £4 for something the size of a bread roll so I've given up.

It's part of the enshittification of everything.

TeenLifeMum · 25/11/2025 20:20

Smarties - guessing they removed the sugar from the casing but that was so nice. Just flavourless now. I get health reasons but I’d rather sugar that I can purposefully limit than sweetener crap.

BunnyWilliams · 25/11/2025 20:22

Really fancied some chocolate HobNobs a few weeks ago. I was bitterly disappointed. They taste like cardboard.

White chocolate, Ribena it’s all gone mad. Food, sweets and chocolate was so much more tasty and flavourful in the 90’s

Olive567 · 25/11/2025 20:22

Chocolate. Even G&B tasted odd the last time I had it.

Hotandbothered222 · 25/11/2025 20:24

Another vote for Ribena. Bastard sugar tax.

Twiglets - apparently they took Parmesan out
of the recipe so now they’re vegan, but also nasty bitter tasteless sticks

EleanorReally · 25/11/2025 20:25

mcvities chocolate biscuits

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 25/11/2025 20:31

Potatoes. They all just taste of nothing now, or they're earthy and bitter.

The other thing I've noticed recently is that full fat milk isn't creamy any more and seems hardly any different from semi-skimmed.

Calliopespa · 25/11/2025 20:33

force ripened strawberries

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/11/2025 20:38

Philadelphia cheese. It has the consistency of emulsion.

I remember when it used to be foil wrapped in blocks. You couldn’t do that now.

JoyintheMorning · 25/11/2025 20:41

Changed my breakfast cereal to recreate my youth. So disappointed in Kelloggs Cornflakes. They are smaller, and so much thinner, No crunch to them, they stick to the roof of my mouth like a Communion wafer and just as flavoursome!
So breakfast is back to Lidl Fruit n Fibre and a few Apricot wheats in the bottom of the dish. Today it was Porridge.

We didn't have it often but you mentioning foil wrapped block brings back memories of it 70s.

Cadbury dairy milk, it’s a travesty!

And Covent garden soups, bland these days.

Heinz baked beans, think they reduced the sugar and salt.

I remember a really tasty corn chowder by Covent Garden.

Imperfectpolly · 25/11/2025 20:46

I'm loving ritz at the minute. They are still crunchy and salty like they used to be.

SeaAndStars · 25/11/2025 20:46

I think the Covent Garden mushroom soup is the only one worth buying now. Surely won't be long before they cock that one up too.

Greenfinch7 · 25/11/2025 20:48

Grapefruit- used to be more bitter and sour! They are disappointingly bland now

Tomatoes, unless home grown, and even then I don’t think they’re quite as good as they used to be.

I noticed this with tomatoes recently. There was zero taste at all. Used to love snacking on cherry tomatoes but there's no sweetness to them now. The only ones that come close are the organic on the vine ones from m&s☹️

Luna6 · 25/11/2025 20:50

All bran.

Tootingbec · 25/11/2025 20:51

San Peligrino lemon/orange/whatever. Used to really like a can now and again if out and not wanting to drink booze. But now they have put artificial sweeteners in them and that is all I can taste 🙁

Mcvities Chocolate Digestives. I used to love them and couldn’t stop eating them
once I’d started.
I can’t even eat one now. They taste vile.
What have they done to them??

MyCatLovesCardboard · 25/11/2025 20:57

Hovis digestive biscuits (the ones shaped like a slice of bread). They used to have a hint of sweetness about them and now they taste like a damp attic.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 25/11/2025 20:58

Fray bentos steak pies 🥺

Yes! I bought some last week for the first time in months and they were so nothingy. Very disappointing.

Digestive biscuits too, they don't taste of anything anymore.
