Food that doesn't taste the same as it used to

Ritz crackers.
What in the name of feck did they do to them?
Where are those crispy, crunchy, salty circles of deliciousness?
Instead we have slightly off, stale tasting discs of disappointment.

I know from others that McVitie's Chocolate Digestives are also on the gone downhill list.
Anything else?

Do the orange ones still taste of orange?

Nope 😭

RowOfRunners · 25/11/2025 21:42

Quality Street.
They used to be so yummy - I’m sure they’re just not the sane now.

I think they cocked that up a few years ago! It's not awful, but they've replaced a lot of the mushroom with rice and some other filler that gives it a gloopy consistency. It used to be delicious, and now it's just ok.

I remember this coming out. It was really thick. Bloody gorgeous.

Bought some the other day. Like brown water with lumps in

Do those still exist?! Is there a market for them?Who are those people?

Findus crispy pancakes were always awful ,I remember when they came out and the cheese ones smelt like sick.

Just realised I bought the low fat version by mistake and that was very nice.

Burger King Spicy Bean burger. They ruined that years ago. Changed it all up.

Palm oil ruined them

Philadelphia cheese. It has the consistency of emulsion.

I remember when it used to be foil wrapped in blocks. You couldn’t do that now.

Also it's not 100% cheese! There are fillers or gum or something in it... other 100% are available, check the supermarket own brands...

Yes, no little salt flecks to lick off the crackers now 😢

I tried to find a cherryade for some summer icecream floats but they're is nothing that compares to a 1990s panda pop, too sweet and not enough fizzy.

Try the Berries & Cherries cordial from Waitrose, it’s very like old cherryade! To me anyway 😃
edited to add: mixed with fizzy water!

I remember a really tasty corn chowder by Covent Garden.

It’s not tasty now though.

Flavourless and watery.

l swear CoventGarden soups used to be made with cream. Now they are made with dishwater.

Snowinsummer · 25/11/2025 21:47

I bought some fancy Waitrose Belgian biscuits. They weren’t cheap but I was most disappointed. Should have checked the ingredients- no butter whatsoever just bl**dy palm oil!!!

Snowinsummer · 25/11/2025 21:50

Agree, Covent Garden Soup is rubbish now. Yorkshire Provender is the one I buy now.

Birdy1982 · 25/11/2025 21:50

Shortbread - used to be buttery & crumble. Now it’s bland solid wedges

I have. I used to buy Sainsbo it was lovely. Then it took on the emulsion consistency. So then l bought Sainsbo organic and it was great. And now it’s joined the emulsion gang.

So now I’m looking for foil covered soft cheese. They can’t add more water to that,

Honestly the stuff I’ve been buying could be painted on. I went through a phase of trying to drain off the extra water. Then just cba.

Not deans of huntly shortbread ,I do appreciate that may be difficult to get on depending where you are in the UK.

RosaMundi27 · 25/11/2025 22:02

Blue Dragon Red Thai Curry Paste - no longer has fish sauce or any fishy stuff in it. Really bland and flat tasting. I used to like to sooo much.

friedeggrunny · 25/11/2025 22:04

Jam Donuts

OneBadKitty · 25/11/2025 22:18

Vesta chow mein- no big chunks of soya beef, thinner more watery sauce
Mcvities digestives- claggy and powdery
Advocaat- thick and jelly like now instead of creamy
Caramac- waxy and horrible
M&S chocolate round biscuits- no longer made by Foxes, now cheap
Sweets- opal fruits, fruit pastels, jelly tots, etc. All drab and not as nice due to lack of artificial colours and flavours

Would La Vache qui Rit do the trick?

Theunamedcat · 25/11/2025 22:33

Tescos gluten free multigrain bread used to be SAVORY and taste yummy toasted (although it was tiny my enthusiastic toaster fired it all over the kitchen) now its joined the rest of it being too sweet and somehow tasteless? Like its sugar mush with bits in useless for cheese on toast or any kind of toast

I tried gluten free white bread and its GREY and sweet

Plus 90% of the gluten free biscuits contain gluten free oats now my body thinks its still gluten and rejects it accordingly

Today I ate potatoes pork and peas i WANTED cheese on toast

Just not the same

DollyPumpkin · 25/11/2025 22:33

Rowntrees Fruit pastilles were my lifelong favourite sweet until they made them vegan. Now they are awful, they are so soft and stick to your teeth and I haven’t had one for years. Still makes me very sad 😢

Also sugar puffs used to be glorious, now they are honey puffs they taste like and have the texture of small chunks of cardboard.

LilacPony · 25/11/2025 22:36

Custard. I don’t know why, but whenever I have it every time I just think it’s nothing like it was in the 90s!

CookingFatCat · 25/11/2025 22:43

Special K which used to be like fat rice crispies, I used to secretly munch my mums’s when she was on a diet.
No longer diet friendly. now they’ve added sugar and barley and they are vile!
I’ve been rinsing the sugar off under the tap and they are just about edible.
