Is 14 pairs of jeans enough?

I’m moving house and culling my entire wardrobe. I’ve sold so much on Vinted, and have a load more to sell.

I probably used to have 40 pairs of jeans and I’ve now got this down to 14. Is that enough?

No it’s not enough. You will literally run out before you’ve had chance to do any laundry. Then you’ll be totally stuck and be forced to wear your pyjamas.

Actually, I don’t think 14 pairs of jeans is necessarily way too many. I think a lot depends upon the types of jeans you have. I’ve easily got 14 pairs if I stop and count them, but, they are different lengths, different cuts, different colours and different thicknesses. Some are suitable for spring/summer wear and others for autumn/winter wear.
I’d agree that 40 pairs is on the excessive side, but the OP has said she’s sold a lot of them (many with labels still attached, so unworn). I can honestly say that every pair I own get worn at some point in the year.

I have seven pairs - different washes, quality of denim, styles.

I can see how you would have fourteen.

I’m surprised how many people only have 2-3 pairs of jeans.

im like you OP and I pretty much live in jeans so I have 3 wide in black, dark and light.
Then barrel legged, horseshoe, at least 2 cropped in black/light, straight legged, slim fit, flares. I’ve probably got about 20 pairs but I wear them all pretty regularly dependent on season, shoes, jacket etc that I’m wearing.

I didn’t think it was excessive but it seems it is.

How could possibly want, need, wear or store that many?

As the proud owner of 3 pairs - one nice pair, one work pair and one pair for gardening/fixing the car/mucking out the horses (falling to bits and about to become dusters) etc.- I would say you have enough pairs for 7 people.

Well if lots still have the tags on then clearly 14 is too much, never mind enough.

I think Vinted sales are only relevant for tax if someone is making a profit on them, e.g. they have got stuff in bulk to sell. Buying new clothes and then selling them new with tags on Vinted would almost always mean spending significantly more money than you get back. And you wouldn’t make a net profit on your own well-worn clothes either even though it might feel like it in that case as the initial expenditure wasn’t wasted so getting a bit of money back is a bonus.

I have about 30 pairs and yes, I wear them all. Some are heavier winter jeans, some lighter summer ones, some wide leg, some boot cut and some skinny, all to go with different type or shoes/boots trainers

I don't drink or smoke so give a fuck if people think it's excessive!

If clothes are what you're into who cares how many as long as you can afford them and have space for them

Personally I couldn't stand only having two pairs! I wear them every day and like to have a choice

Pragmatically, you're not going to 'miss' the ones that still have tags because you have, presumably, never worn them.

They're more a psychological comfort blanket of 'plenty'.

There have been similar threads over the years where people who never had enough in their house as a child keep huge amounts of detergent, toothpaste, loo roll, dry food etc - whatever it was they would run out of as children even though they were unlikely to ever be in a realistic position of running out or unable to afford more now.

14 pairs will be fine.

How many days in the week? How often do you require jeans in a week? That’s the number of jeans. 14 is nuts. I have 6 pairs but only like 3, and then only when jogging bottoms are unacceptable. I’m done with discomfort.

There’s 7 days in a week was my thought. I probably have a similar amount. Skinny style. Then a handful of mum/bootcut style which I’m not convinced suit me. I think I’m going to veer towards trousers more! Personal preference I guess.
