Is 14 pairs of jeans enough?

Calcaata · 18/10/2025 21:08

I’m moving house and culling my entire wardrobe. I’ve sold so much on Vinted, and have a load more to sell.

I probably used to have 40 pairs of jeans and I’ve now got this down to 14. Is that enough?

Yep. You only have one pair of legs.

councilpoms · 19/10/2025 06:16

I have two

JustMe2026 · 19/10/2025 06:25

I only have 4 and they do me just fine lol

I’m really interested in this. In how the jeans get bought. Is it impulsive shopping when you’re in a shop and like the look of something and think it’s different to what you already have? Is it wanting to try a new brand. Is it sporting a bargain that can’t be missed so stockpiling?
OP How did you end up with jeans you didn’t wear?
I live in jeans and have 5 pairs. I do need (need?) a plain smart black pair for work since I got bleach on the last pair. But I wouldn’t be shopping for jeans if I had ones I never wore.

I do have 30 cardigans…

TheChosenTwo · 19/10/2025 06:43

How many times do you wear them before you wash them? I wear mine a good few times until they’re visibly marked in some way before I wash them. I don’t really do this with other clothes though!
I have 2 pairs, not really much of a jeans wearer but I probably have around 40 dresses. Regularly wear about half of them, 10 aren’t always seasonally appropriate and about 10 of them are fancy occasion ones.

heartsinvisiblefury · 19/10/2025 06:47

Are you a centipede OP?

No moral compass? Oh Lordy. I’ve heard it all on MN now. How overly dramatic.

There’s a thread right now where someone has had a Diptyque candle stolen and the judgy fuckers are WILDLY furious about it so your jeans probably have them frothing at the mouth 😂

I live and die in jeans and have 13 pairs but several are V similar so I don’t think 14 different ones are that crazy if you wear them all

RubyFlax · 19/10/2025 07:04

I’m genuinely suprised at the answers here. I don’t think 14 pairs of jeans is excessive at all if they all fit and you wear them!? I easily have this many! I have wide leg in 3 different colours, straight legs in different colours and leg lengths (some to wear with flats as ankle grazer, but longer ones to wear with heeled boots), a flared black pair… I wouldn’t wear the same style of jean for walking the dog with my wellies as I would with heeled boots to work, or with flats to meet my friends, so they do have different styles & uses. All the people saying they have 2 pairs blows my mind 🤯 unless you hardly ever wear a pair of jeans.

Shoecamp · 19/10/2025 07:09

Op if you’d have put this in style and beauty, it would have gone a completely different way. Chat and aibu for fashion questions brings out those people who think it’s bizarre for others to enjoying clothes. I too, have lots of jeans and don’t know anyone who wears jeans who would only have one or two pairs.

That's probably the difference. I do only have two pairs and outside of the height of summer wear them all the time. They are quite different styles but they are both jeans so to me they look pretty much the same overall and I would wear either pair in any of your scenarios above.

I hate having too much choice of the same item. Just a waste of my time and storage space.

whatevenwasthat · 19/10/2025 07:45

This thread has actually made me laugh. The horror at somone owning jeans. “No moral compass” FFS. I have this image of Ed Geins mother with those replies.

OP, it’s a lot. But if you like them, so what. I think I’m probably a bit envious as I can’t find one pair of jeans that seems to work on my body.

Newsenmum · 19/10/2025 07:47

how often do you wash your clothes?

MagicLoop · 19/10/2025 07:48

Oh come on... she owned 40 pairs of jeans until she sold a load. You can't be suggesting that's remotely normal, surely? What I find really baffling is having tons of clothes you bought but never wear, still with the tags on. Why would anyone do that?

Kitchenbattle · 19/10/2025 08:01

@Calcaata i have…
10 pairs of jeans
7 pairs of work trousers
1 pair of yoga pants
2 pairs of joggers
1 pair of wide leg legging pants
2 pairs of black cropped leggings
2 pairs of full length leggings.

behind my jeans I have my summer clothes…
2 pairs of chinos
1 pair of white cropped jeans
3 pairs of floaty linen pants
7 pairs of shorts

you do you! I see nothing excessive at all!

How funny. I read your op and thought that was a crazy number as I have ‘hardly any jeans!’ but on second thoughts, I think I have 10 pairs… all the right size and worn often, just different styles and colours etc. Soon adds up!!

Absolutely this. Some are good with trainers, some need boots. The same jeans wouldn’t work with a blazer as with a puffer. Some are suitable for work with a smart shirt, some are good with a sweatshirt. 2 pairs of jeans wouldn’t work for me and I’m certainly not going to apologise for loving and caring about fashion

I’m with you OP. Two pairs of jeans wouldn’t get me through the day with my vomity baby…! and I don’t have (room for) a drier (plus they’re wasteful of energy/not good for the environment) so we each wash a load of clothes once a week to allow for drying time.

14 pairs is so easily done and not unreasonable if you have the space. There are a lot of hairshirt and sackcloth wearers on MN it seems. I have about 6 pairs (mainly Tu) that fit me Postpartum but it varies as I lose weight slowly (and probably about 14 more of nicer brands that fit me at different preg and pre-preg sizes - not decluttering until I’m done being pregnant and settle at a size).

Frequency · 19/10/2025 10:55

I have 3 pairs of jeans.

2 black and one grey.

The only reason I have 2 black pairs is that I cannot wear the pairs with rips in for work. To be fair, though, I mainly wear leggings and sports clothes. I only wear jeans if I am going out somewhere or occasionally for work if my yoga pants are not clean.

I have 3 pairs of black leggings and one pair of yoga pants, plus a pair of patterned leggings that match a certain jumper I have.

sittingonabeach · 19/10/2025 10:55

What have you been selling to make £7k? Why do so many of your clothes still have their labels on?

Geneticsbunny · 19/10/2025 10:56

Where is that laughing emoji. You must have a whole drawer filled with jeans or two? So you are paying for extra furniture and taking up extra space in your house for the option of having huge numbers of jeans to choose from. How many different styles and colours are there?

Purplecatshopaholic · 19/10/2025 11:04

I’d sell all the ones with tags op, as you are clearly not wearing them. You can always buy the same style and cut again if you miss them. As to the number? So what! I have over 200 pairs of shoes/boots and ‘only one pair of feet’ (boyfriends comment, lol), and I give no fucks. Your money, your choices.

IsadoraQuagmire · 19/10/2025 11:07

You have 14 pairs more than I have, I haven't owned a pair of jeans since I was about 10! Mind you, I probably have enough hats to start my own hat shop...

Frankenpug23 · 19/10/2025 11:12

I think you will be fine with 14 pairs - I have zero pairs!! not worn jeans for 17 years - I haven’t missed them 😀

SprayWhiteDung · 19/10/2025 11:27

Calcaata · 19/10/2025 01:56

Because I don’t think anyone would actually care if I listed exact styles and colours of even 4 pairs of jeans.

Who has a full wardrobe of denim? Because I certainly don’t remember listing any other items of clothing I have in my dressing room or that these jeans were all stored in one wardrobe. That’s just a random piece of information you’ve made up for some strange reason.

Its so funny the snarky comments, some people on MN are so threatened by anything they perceive as something they’ve taken so personally.

It was lighthearted hyperbole; there's no need to see conspiracy there!

You obviously knew when starting the thread that 14 pairs of jeans will be far more than most people would ever consider 'normal' or necessary. You didn't even ask if it was 'too many', but rather is that 'enough'?! Even if you never wore anything other than jeans on your bottom half, that's still at least two weeks' worth before you'd need to do any washing.

I was opining that your choice to have an abnormally large amount of pairs of jeans was up to you and (unlike a PP) was absolutely NOT any kind of sign of moral ineptitude on your part; but if you disagree with that, again, that's entirely up to you.

Greentreesx · 19/10/2025 11:27

I dont own any jeans.
