Is 14 pairs of jeans enough?

I’m moving house and culling my entire wardrobe. I’ve sold so much on Vinted, and have a load more to sell.

I probably used to have 40 pairs of jeans and I’ve now got this down to 14. Is that enough?

For what, a small army? A ranch of cowboys? How many pairs of legs do you have on your one body?

I'm a clothes-aholic and had to convince my husband to let me turn the spare room into a dressing room to accommodate all my clothes and I still only have about 8 pairs of jeans.

And definitely, some are more formal that I’d wear to my corporate job, and some are going out in or just to wear on a normal day.

I do feel better for selling/donating so many. And it means I’ll actually get more wear out of the ones I have left.

Well I guess you’ll likely have way more of a certain item of something than I have.

Not much more than a week's worth of anything, I literally can't fathom why you'd ever need 40 pairs of anything.

Or why you'd need to ask random strangers on the internet if you have enough trousers, like have you not existed enough yet to know the answer to that by yourself?

I have three pairs of blue/ one pair of white:
1 x mid blue straight Levi’s
1 x faded straight cropped Levi’s
2 x dark indigo high waist patch pocket flared Anthropologie
1 x white straight ankle skimmers Mango

My DH says I have a coat/jeans/clothes in general problem, to be very honest, it brought me happiness to buy them initially but it's really a symptom of my mental health. And to some dreadful degree, a reflection of my mental health about my life/health and how much I actually hate myself, then make myself feel better by buying clothes.

I must have at least 15 pairs of jeans, and the same amount of coats. It's overconsumption, for sure. I often feel quite guilty about it 😕 😬

Yes, it probably is a hoarding disorder too (in my case. Maybe not yours).

No it's not enough, I think you need minimum 18 pairs for any sort of happy life.

I must have about 20 pairs. There are so many different styles and colours that it’s easy to end up with a lot.

I own two pairs. One blue pair and one black pair. I’d consider 14 excessive.

Do you not think that, if 14 pairs is clearly too many for you to consider listing individually, it's possibly also too many to actually own?!

I wouldn't personally cast grave aspersions on the state of your moral compass just for having a full wardrobe of denim, though

So I have 4 pairs.
1 x pair from Lidle
1 x pair from pound land
2 x pairs from marks and sparks

A far cry from my pre kids wardrobe where I had a wardrobe full of Moschino, Armarni and DKNY jeans. Gave them all to charity when I never lost the baby weight and randomly bought a pair of jeans from poundland one day and never went back. I think the were 7 quid, lasted about 6 years of daily wear and my most comfortable jeans ever. Just replaced them last week when they finally wore through😂
I did get a pair from that stitches online stylist subscription a few years back but they wore really badly and were 80 quid.
I now think whats the point in spending loads when with jeans, noone can tell the brand and the cheap ones wear much better.
I would rather spend on a nice top as you can see a nice top more. Jeans are jeans.

Why did you post? You must have known that 14 pairs is way more than normal. Was it some sort of misguided brag?

I have… none. My 20 year old DD has four, only one blue. My son, who works in a men’s boutique, probably has about ten pairs, which is more than he needs! So yes 14 seems more than enough to me.

How would that be a brag?! 😂. I never mentioned brands or prices, and this has actually accumulated over years.

And genuinely what validation would I get from telling complete strangers I have x amount of jeans. I could at least have made up I have 40 designer bags or shoes,

Because I don’t think anyone would actually care if I listed exact styles and colours of even 4 pairs of jeans.

Who has a full wardrobe of denim? Because I certainly don’t remember listing any other items of clothing I have in my dressing room or that these jeans were all stored in one wardrobe. That’s just a random piece of information you’ve made up for some strange reason.

Another person who also just has 2. If you have 14, do you ever get around to wearing the 14th favorite pair? Or the 13th? Even if you wore a clean pair every day, and only did a wash once a week, you would only need 7.
Keep 5 and get rid of the rest. I don't have more than 5 of any item (apart from socks and underwear) and that's plenty of clothes. If I buy something new, one in means one out.

I’d say 3 is enough if all the same style.

I think I've got five pairs, all different. I'm currently fending off a very insistent mental nag who feels I absolutely must have some red jeans and some green ones.

It's talking bollocks, of course, but it's hard to shut that voice up in the middle of the night 😕
