Why was it mostly men on the march?

noblegiraffe · 14/09/2025 09:48

I've seen quite a few photos of the march yesterday, and they pretty much all look like the one below. Vast majority men. Why is that? Why is Robinson's patriot messaging and call-to-action landing mostly with men and not women?

Voting by sex wasn't massively different in the last general election - men were certainly more likely to vote Reform, but not by a huge amount, so generally politically we're not that different.

Please explain how someone can racially insult someone of the race they belong to themselves.

Lots of racism based on skin colour within communities- valuing people more highly who come from the right community but lighter skin tone. Yes racist.

And I have heard white people call other white people (children) "white trash" and it is hideous. If we don't use racist terms then we don't use racist terms. You can't just pick and choose what racism you decide counts and what doesn't count.

Edit - just to add the "white trash" people would rather die than insult another race publicly. It's the acceptable face of racism - against white people.

I didn't say the right is a single entity.
Perhaps you could enlighten me on the who's, how's and why's. Because I genuinely don't know. We haven't had a left wing government for long, and there's plenty of right wing media outlets. So I'm not sure how anyone has been silenced.

I must have mixed you up with the posters stereotyping the protesters into '"thickos, gammons, flag shagging pot bellied toothless nazi scum ". Because we'd agree that that would be sticking everyone with opinions on immigration into one 'right wing' pot, yes? Silencing people includes labelling them or using negative stereotypes and slurs to close down debate. Can you think of any other tactics?

Itcantbetrue · 14/09/2025 17:51

I saw that bus and the 88 and agree it's probably nefarious actors getting on the action . I didn't know about the significance of that.
Unfortunately these groups will piggy back and they do on the left as well.
You have innocent middle of the road people who want to support either side then you get activists ramping up the rhetoric calling everyone fascists and ...lots of union placards .

We have a housing problem because in 2004 Blair lifted working restrictions s to latvia Poland etc and jack straw admitted it was a " spectacular mistake "

Because no one was even counted in we only saw the impact on us through a and e issues ,maternity wards closing , meals on wheels pulled to fund interpreters, and food banks and housing

EU immigrants are net contributors to the UK.

Pity so many Polish builders went home after Brexit.

Good job they did. Unemployment is on the up atm. The last thing we need to add to housing, COL crisis and NHS issues is high unemployment, or we might as will turn the light off and shut the door on the way out.

Itcantbetrue · 14/09/2025 17:55

@SeaAndStars maybe now if we know who they are and they are in proper employment but back on 2004 many many social problems were caused with criminals arriving in large numbers gangs getting in ,drugs ,violence ,different parenting styles , children arriving alone , one problem family costs hundreds of thousands ,charities were totally swamped ,wages under cut for our plumbers and trades because eastern European trades were living in sub standard accmd in in official HMOs on a shoe string to send money home whilst British trades had bills and families to support.
This is why Jezza c and his cronies supported Brexit .
I can't believe people still come out with this crap.

Oh and I forgot the massive issues we had with modern day slavery !!

But it's obvious it's not going to be peaceful with 2 groups who have opposing views. Why were their marches both allowed to end up in the same place.

You can't tell me there wasn't name calling and goading from both sides.

They weren't meant to end up in the same place. The Unite the Kingdom protesters broke down the barriers and went into the neutral space that had been created between them and the counter protest. This has been widely reported on many media outlets from the NY Times to the Daily Mail.

Still not getting how any of that amounts to silencing though.

Good god! I just Googled him (Tommy Robinson, that is). Why the hell would any right-minded person want to be associated with him?!

I see he's already served 5 prison terms, even though he's only 42. And why does he use so many different names?

Clearly he's a very nasty piece of work indeed.

It seems that he's styling himself as a populist lightening rod for individuals with similar views to gather around and revere.

It did look to have a male majority but I watched some coverage and I saw a lot of women too of varying ages. I also saw women in wheelchairs and with walking aids. I also heard a 88 year old lady being interviewed on the radio who went & she said it was very peaceful and everyone around her was kind and looked out for her.

I was pretty amazed at the aerial footage - there was a LOT of people there and only 25 arrests is pretty amazing.

If you’re a woman and you use such terms as for example hysterical/slut/whore/bitch to describe another woman’s behaviour is that or is that not misogyny? Even though you’re a women yourself. I certainly think so. If you think it is too (you should!) then you’ll understand why it’s racism. Actually the term is “internalised racism”. Look it up.

If you are unable to differentiate between an insult and a racist slur, that's on you.

Arrests will follow. No point in police contributing to disorder when so outnumbered by potentially violent demonstrators.

Quite. The 25 arrests were only the ones confirmed in the immediate aftermath. There has been no further update yet. More arrests will come, as will information about what they were for.

But most people avoided London like the plague this weekend, because of the planned protest. I know that everyone has the right to protest, but wouldn’t it have made more sense to just plan the counter protest on a different day? Today perhaps? That way both sides are getting their point across without the added potential of putting yourselves in a dangerous avoidable situation. If you don’t agree with something, fine, but does it necessitate having to attend on the same day with possible consequences?

I could only go on the day that was arranged, but yes, it was a risky strategy to have the marches on the same day. Why is a question for the organisers. But maybe you should be able to have two marches arranged on different routes and kept separate and not automatically expect trouble. Maybe the question is why did those people you say stayed away from London on the day have the expectation that things would descend into violence?

Well then it’s time to get that welfare review up and running, then we can get some of the country back to work.

Because instead of any attempt at debate of the issues it's just name calling and dismissing.

I could say of the left "Why am I going to listen to a load of knit your own yogurt hippies living in a Yurt on their small holdings removed from the real world while their millionaire parents bank roll their life choices"

But that would be also be a ridiculous stereotype representing very few of the people there I assume.

The issues are what we should be discussing - not appearances and stereotypes.

How does name calling silence anyone? And if it worked so well, nobody would ever say anything given the right wing are far from the only group to fall victim to it.
I'm really not following your logic.

Serpentstooth · 14/09/2025 18:12

Why expect violence? Because many of Yaxley Lennons supporters are football hooligans without a match to go to. And they like nothing better than a punch up on a Saturday afternoon.

People do say that sort of stuff about the left wing though. And they don't whinge that it's silencing do they?
And again, I haven't stereotyped anyone's appearance. So why are you explaining this to me?
