A brand new shiny thread. Whether you want to do one extra thing a day, or a brain dump of what you have to do this is the place.

Exciting times here 🤭

Peridot1 · 05/09/2025 09:38

Thanks for the new thread @SpiritOfEdna.

Im just off to the gym for a PT session.

Step away from the Coke Zero @mumofoneAloneandwell! Try fizzy water with some lime.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/09/2025 11:12

I've been on Amazon for about 3 hours. Bought 7 items for Havoc's upcoming birthday: balloon kit, pump, 3 prezzies, t-shirt (tradition I've started: birthday shirt with age) and a separate balloon number. Then I started browsing the sites of the 3 cake shops I like. 🙄 It's now 3:10am. Night night lovelies. Will likely check-in tomorrow and comment properly on some posts. Thanks for the new thread @SpiritOfEdna 🩷

autumnangel · 05/09/2025 11:42

Thank you for the new thread @SpiritOfEdna I promise to keep up with this one a bit better.
That sounds productive @Mumtobabyhavoc what age will Havoc be? I stayed up to 3am last night and I'm really regretting it now!
Well done @mumofoneAloneandwell I'd love to attempt to give up / reduce sugar but can't hack the withdrawals so I don't usually last long.

I met MIL for walk this morning but it started to rain so we went to M&S and B&M instead so that was nice. I have my first counselling session this afternoon and I'm going for dinner with BIL so a bit of a busy day. I'm not sure how I'm going to feel this afternoon so keeping my list short today: dump, put bags up the loft, rearrange hair and nail appointments since I'm going away now. If I get these things done I will be very pleased!

petalpower · 05/09/2025 12:27

Just checking in from our holiday - thanks for the new thread @SpiritOfEdna . Good luck with the counselling appointment @autumnangel . Hello to everyone else. Currently on a bumpy train speeding between European cities!

Aria999 · 05/09/2025 12:32

Hello all, thanks for the new thread @SpiritOfEdna!

my current project is reviewing our finances for the year so I can do the budget for next year. ( our household financial year runs September to August because of how DH gets paid). Fun times! At least I get to spend lots of time admiring the amazing cleverness of my own spreadsheet 😁

Thanks SoE!

Hi everyone!

Have a great holiday @petalpower

Yesterday I took the Dcs duvets to the laundrette as they have machines the size that can accommodate them (they have double beds). However stupidly I did not check in advance that tey took cards. Only cash. I went into the pub next door with the aim to have a glass of wine and get change but they only took cards too. So I decided to have a second glass of wine while I considered my options and then after that did not care much anymore so went home. I'll try again Monday and take the approx £20 it will cost (for washing and drying) in coins. So good intentions, but sabotaged by my own lack of preparedness and my willingness to be distracted.... Grin

@Aria999 I wish i could contract our finance spreadsheets out to you. I am rubbish at spreadsheets!

best wishes to all. Happy Friday!!

Aria999 · 05/09/2025 17:19

lol @FourSeasonsLobelia I love the laundry trip! If you would actually like a little free spreadsheet advice occasionally, pm me (though tell me you have done so as they don't show up on the app). I guess your company might be a bit cautious about giving out data to a random from the internet but I can give you my linked in and upwork profiles.

😭😭😭 love this

Also love the change of name 🥰

@autumnangel thank you. I'm not doing well 😭 but will keep on going. Hope your day goes well and your dinner with bil. I love going to m&s and b&m, especially at this time of year 🤎🍂 - one day at a time xx

WinterFrogs · 05/09/2025 19:47

Hello! Thank you @SpiritOfEdna 😊

Oof...spreadsheets! I have to use them now. Getting better at it.

Just checking in and will catch up tomorrow 👋

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 05/09/2025 20:05

Hello new thread, hello everyone.

@autumnangel I hope your day went OK, lots going on for you.

We are on our way to the PIL's (ex) home to collect more things they want at the home, and hopefully do a bit more clearing out over the weekend. We'll have to drive back by Sunday late morning though as it's such a long way and we want to get back in time to spend time with them at the care home.

Today H went on a mad tidying spree of the Dumping Room and one of the Dumping Closets to make space for some of his parents' things. Threw out all sorts of random items, and took a bag of old light bulbs and one of textiles to the recycling. He also showed me I had accumulated a collection of about 8 practically empty peanut butter jars. Erm erm 🙄

My main task was ordering bits of new school uniform for the growing child. Who lost her first tooth!

SpiritOfEdna · 05/09/2025 20:29

@SingleThreadJoiner2 I hope the tooth fairy visits tonight 🧚‍♀️

SydneyCarton · 05/09/2025 20:48

@SingleThreadJoiner2 My 11 year old lost three teeth in the last five days and told me “Let’s drop the pretence Mum, just give me a tenner” 😲🤣. I mean I’m glad not to be creeping around the bedroom at midnight but still!

Today I cleaned out the cutlery drawer and also decluttered a corner of the kitchen work surface which was getting out of control. It’s a bit of a work in progress as I still need to find a proper home for some of the bits and pieces but it looks so much better.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/09/2025 01:13

"practically empty" @SingleThreadJoiner2 ? 😂😂😂
I like all the seasonal items in the shops, too @mumofoneAloneandwell
"Let's drop the pretense"???? Were you suitably stunned @SydneyCarton I mean, the cynicism! 😂
@FourSeasonsLobelia I lol at your method to contemplate a dilemma. 👏
Hope you're enjoying time away @petalpower
I'm glad you're getting a few things done and getting out @autumnangel 🩷
How are your feet @SpiritOfEdna ?

Had a busy day on too little sleep, today. Took my mum to a med appt, Costco shop and an errand for my mum. All with dc and my mum in tow. Got home and put an easy late lunch together: fruit plate of figs, strawberries and grapes, cheese, bagels with PB, quinoa salad (Costco) and rotisserie chicken (thanks again, Costco and Havoc for jumping the queue for the chicken, grabbing one and bringing it to me triumphantly and to the amusement, thankfully, of the person I was standing behind in line. I took it and ran.)😂
Baby just crashed in my arms. 😇
Havoc is glued to Netflix.

eta: alao squeezed in an u expected med appt before going out. Doctor's office called me to move my appt, We couldn't find one that worked, so doctor called me to discuss the issue a few mins later as a phone appt instead which was so nice! I have a hip issue and am going to try prolotherapy, which the doctor offers. Will cost about $100.

I vacuumed yesterday, put clothes away and washed a load of towels. Lots of big tasks are being ignored.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 06/09/2025 07:11

Morning all.

Hugs to everyone. Thanks. Hope all are well and today is a much better day for all.

Thanks for the offer @Aria999 ! I will PM you and let you know. ❤

Today I have a bush to prune as it is starting to impede upon the footpath.

Just curious- what are everyone's daily 'must dos'? For me the kitchen needs to be clean and tidy and the floor swept. The sitting room needs to be straight and all the beds made. If those things are not done then I feel anxious and on edge. Kitty litter gets picked out when used and cleaned completely and refreshed about every second day I think.

After those are done then I try and get to my daily project.

Best wishes to all and hope you all have a lovely weekend. Thanks

autumnangel · 06/09/2025 09:21

@petalpower - Hope you have a lovely holiday
@Aria999 - Ohh a spreadsheet - one of my favourite things!
@FourSeasonsLobelia - The intention was there so that's the main thing
@mumofoneAloneandwell - I love the shops at this time of year too - autumn is my favourite season.
@WinterFrogs - hello 👋
@SingleThreadJoiner2 - hugs to you, it must be so stressful for you with PIL's house being so far away.
@SydneyCarton - "just give me a tenner" made me laugh out loud!
@Mumtobabyhavoc - hope the doc can sort out your hip issue
@FourSeasonsLobelia - I've been thinking about daily tasks over the last few days so thanks for asking this...I need a new routine as I've let things slip and it's all gotten too much so I need to find what works for me again. Looking forward to seeing what others do daily for some inspiration.

The counselling wasn't the best to be honest it seems to just be a talking therapy instead of her helping me to question the way I am thinking about things. I'll try again next week. Dinner last night with BIL was nice but strange as I've never been for dinner just me and a man without it being a date and we would never have done this just the two of us if DH was here. We chatted about DH all night so that was really lovely.

BIL is coming round today to fix my fence and leaking shower then FIL is coming to put up a shelf and any other odd jobs I have. I am eternally grateful to them both as I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to DIY 🙈DH would be happy to know we're all supporting each other in some way.

MIL will probably come along with FIL so that means I NEED to get myself sorted! They are going to be in every room in the house so there is nowhere to hide all these bags that I've been meaning to sort for ages so I'll need to try and put some away this morning or I'll end up shoving them up the loft and dealing with them later (that actually sounds more appealing!).

Hope everyone has a lovely stress free Saturday!

Peridot1 · 06/09/2025 10:24

Busy new thread!

@FourSeasonsLobelia - love your distraction method! Reminds me I need to take some duvets to be laundered too. I usually just leave them to do them and they take cards so no excuse for a sneaky glass of wine. Or two.

I am not going to tag everyone as I’ll be here all day and let’s face it my posts are normally long anyway! Suffice to say I’ve read them and laughed at the tooth fairy unmasking and the chicken stealing Havoc.

My regular daily tasks are dishwasher emptying and attempting to keep kitchen counters tidy. Never works as we all dump stuff on the island unit and I have too much general clutter. Other daily task is a to do a load of laundry and fold the previous day’s load put the basket at the bottom of the stairs and put away the previous day’s basket. We all have a laundry basket in our rooms so I do person by person if you get me. Today will be towels.

So today’s list:

  • walk
  • dishwasher and tidy kitchen
  • make cheesecake as we are having people over for dinner tonight
  • general tidy of sitting and dining areas
  • vacuum
  • clean downstairs cloakroom
  • prep veg for roast veg dish for dinner
  • dust sitting area coffee table and side tables
  • clean lights over island unit in kitchen

That’s a long list so I had better get off my backside and get started!

Have a great Saturday all.

WinterFrogs · 06/09/2025 14:05

I do love this thread ❤️

You keep me on point @FourSeasonsLobelia With you in mind I made the bed and swished the loo and the bathroom sink before heading out.

I also do a daily laundry load - or at least a daily check of the basket. And i don't like a full kitchen bin.

Havoc sound's like a feisty little person @Mumtobabyhavoc ❤️ GC is similar. I can't even call her littlest any more because we have four younger GNs now. But GC is the one we see most often. Starts school next week. Time flies!

Small jobs that keep being missed:

Light bulb in my office/disney bedroom
One bulb in bathroom and also kitchen
FILE THE DAMN PAPERWORK!
Another pet appt to be booked.
Dentist for me as lost filling
Different dentist to adjust night time mouthguard
Order new wellies
Order seat covers for my new car.

I could do that in half an hour tops. Most of it can be done online. But first i will visit my mum as she's been unwell and narrowly missed being admitted to hospital yesterday due to a chest infection. I'm glad they left her in the home after extensive checks by paramedics. We've been down that route of hospitals and endless poking and prodding before. She needs rest, antibiotics, fluids and lots of tlc, and the carers and nurses are doing that admirably.

WinterFrogs · 06/09/2025 14:12

I'm very weary from a morning's work so I will just say hello to everyone else, but the posts have made me smile !

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/09/2025 18:34

@autumnangel therapy doesn't work overnight. It does take some time to build a safe space and with your therapist listening and guiding you, you will get there. I found I had an agenda, was positive about what I wanted to discuss was the issue, but found layers needed to be peeled back over time. Just a thought for you. That was my experience. 🩷

RunningKatie · 06/09/2025 20:37

I am here! I fell off the last thread too many times and the summer happened, and it was fabulous. Now we seem to be going full tilt into Autumn.
DCs are back in school, the house still resembles a bombsite covered in DC2s crafts.
We have people coming over at the beginning of November. I have 2 months to sort it. Jeepers.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 07/09/2025 06:56

I agree with you about a full kitchen bin @WinterFrogs . We have paper bins for every room in the house (DH in typical mode bought a job lot). I hate those being full too. It just feels messy.

Hope your mum is better soon. Thank goodness she is still in the home with some peace and quiet. Hospitals are never peaceful! Thanks

❤to you @autumnangel . Thanks You are going through so much and the fact you are still standing says so much. I hope so much you are okay. xx

Good to see you @RunningKatie ! Glad your summer was good.

Hi and waves to everyone. Thanks

Yesterday I cut back the runaway bush. I got a ridiculous amount of foliage off it without much change visually. But at least the council will complain less. (tbf they had a point). But it's an ugly plant and very invasive so I am tossing between cutting it right down to about 4 ft and turning it into a sort of hedge or taking it out entirely. DH thinks take it out but I have a nasty suspicion it is actually holding our Victorian wall up.

Tomorrow I am trying my luck with the laundrette again. And taking a book so i am not distracted a second time. I even dreamed about the wretched duvets so it is playing on my mind.

Today - a little bit of freezer cooking but it will be using up large packs of frozen veg that are taking up alot of room so I am not sure if it will have much impact on freezer space! I am making some soups and stews. I might also have another go at the bush. No idea what it is. I might google......

love to all. xx

FourSeasonsLobelia · 07/09/2025 07:00

..... hmmm a google later it might be a sweet box. But the examples online have been kept in much better order and not left to grow crazily.

I'll try the hedging as a first port of call then review I think.

WinterFrogs · 07/09/2025 10:37

I love how it holds your wall up! We have a box hedge that's supported by brambles . It's very neat as it just all gets levelled together.

May I share my current earworm? Skidamarink. Very catchy and cute....thank you littlest 😳 😂 Don't google it unless you want to be humming it all day....
