Daily fail though...

Womblingmerrily · 01/09/2025 21:09

We'll be fine.

Just get the kettle on. Have a brew.

You'll feel better.

PeonyPatch · 01/09/2025 21:09

More scare-mongering and sensationalism

Fragmentedbrain · 01/09/2025 21:09

I mean it's emergency preparedness

I do think it's unlikely kids born today will never know war, though

"a brew" mings

I'd rather be at war

SallyD00lally · 01/09/2025 21:10

I wish we could have a scaremongering topic so I could hide it 🙄

Not really scaremongering Sal. Just made me laugh really as we're so piss poor at everything in the UK. Like, seriously how the hell would we ever be ready for war...😆😅😅😅

It really is scare-mongering at this point though…

Well I'm sorry for scaremongering you so close to bed time.

I didn't actually read the article. Just saw the headline & it made me laugh.

Weird stuff been going on in New Jersey US for months now.
New tech being flown.
I dont know about France but something is happening over there.

What they need to do is harness the power of mumsnet, all of whom can make a chicken last a week, manage every eventuality calmly without raising their voice and who would prove a fearsome enemy.

That's the issue - they send the wrong people. If every country sent their 50+ year old women to war then we'd have it sorted in a week.

No it’s ok, I just thought you were genuinely alarmed or panicked?

It’s just the DM up to their usual level of clickbait journalism…

Cheepcheepcheep · 01/09/2025 21:20

War doesn’t look like war nowadays. It doesn’t look like guns and bombs a lot of the time. It looks like cyber attacks and stuff. It’s a digital Cold War, and it’s been going on for ages - we’re already at war. I find it oddly comforting.

Well women don’t typically start wars tbf. Can we leave all the men to it and go and start our own society elsewhere?! 🤣

Sorted in a week?? MN would be starting a war over whether or not you should open the door to unexpected visitors!

UghFletcher · 01/09/2025 21:23

YABVU to believe an article posted in the daily heil

Cheepcheepcheep · 01/09/2025 21:23

Because yes, war is ongoing but I’m still going to tesco and taking my kids to the library and living my small, insignificant life. And I like that if war has to happen - as it has since time immemorial - it’s letting me have my life. Others aren’t so lucky and I’m grateful if I have to live during war it’s letting me just scuttle around.

I wouldn’t describe that as comforting, but each to their own. Appreciate your response.

I just feel like warfare is an inevitable part of being human and if it can happen in a way that lets me have my life and my children aren’t at immediate risk of death then it’s an improvement. But I appreciate it might not make a lot of sense!

Platypusdiver · 01/09/2025 21:33

Scandinavia have been preparing for war for a couple of years now.

Western europe appears to have been ignoring this - or at least there have been no media reports until now.

I have relatives in sweden/Denmark and they see fighter planes training on a semi-regular basis.

ElleEstBelle · 01/09/2025 21:33

Hospitals in Germany have all been instructed to be war ready. This happened in the last 6-12 months. Also due to the risk of conflict with Russia.

prettygardenflowers · 01/09/2025 21:35

I think there is reason to be concerned. There is already so much conflict in the world in which we (the UK) has a part in much of it.
I understand of course the world has never been a peaceful place whilst humans have been in it.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to have some concerns (unless you literally are burying your head in the sand).
