Be honest; if you’re a tall woman do you consider yourself superior to shorter women?

I know a few tall women who refer to shorter women as things like ‘short arses’ and I’ve seen the same thing said by taller women on the Style and Beauty boards here, too.

I’m 5ft 4, so am short myself, and have had derogatory comments made to me in the past by a few tall females. Yet I’d never dream of calling them an insulting name about being tall, or even really comment on their height at all.

I’m 5’10. Honestly I bloody hate it. Most men want a partner shorter than them. This rules a lot of men out.

Being tall, mainly.

Why is being tall a problem?

What an odd question. No I don't think that.

I'm 5'8" and spent my early teens feeling like a giraffe until some of my class mates caught up with me. I wanted to be petite.

I like my height now, but it took me a while.

Yes, me too. Although I don’t think I’ve quite accepted my height yet, I wish I was a few inches shorter!

Crushed23 · 08/08/2025 21:39

You’re blessed with large breasts, of course you look feminine. I’ve got tiny tits. If I were tall instead of short/petite I would look less feminine. That’s why I’m glad I’m not tall. I don’t feel sorry for tall women, I never said that. Some of the most desirable women in the world are very tall.

Does Rosie Huntingdon Whitely not look feminine? Candice Swanepoel? Gisele Bundchen? Elsa Hosk? All tall women with small boobs.

EchoedSilence · 08/08/2025 21:58

I'm quite tall. I've never wanted to be shorter. I like having long legs although finding jeans long enough can be a pita.

TartanTwit · 08/08/2025 22:00

I'm on the taller side - not by much based on averages but I always felt rather gangly next to petite women, so absolutely no feeling of being better!

I find that tall ranges now are for ladies 5ft10+, so just a bit too tall for me, whereas the regular clothing is just slightly too short. It’s a pain! ASOS is good as you can choose leg length etc

M & S are good for longer length jeans too.

PersephonePomegranate · 08/08/2025 22:03

Eh? Never come across this before. 5 ft 4 is also the average height in the UK for a woman, so youre not small, OP, you're completely average

TaupeMember · 08/08/2025 22:06

What a shocker, the thread had turned into a critique of taller women. How could the op have possibly known? 😉

Im 5.10 and love it. I own it and instantly.habe a presence when I walk into a room. Never ever short of male attention.

But then im that sort of person. Would own it if I was 5.1 too. Swings and roundabouts. Would also love being 5.5!

I agree with a pp that height really isn't that big a deal for men when it comes to women.

Personality, more so. Face, more so. Proportions, more so.

Whoever you are, just own it.

And dont start ridiculous threads designed to goad women into slating themselves and each other.

Clearinguptheclutter · 08/08/2025 22:07

I’m nearly 5ft 11 and definitely no

very occasionally eg at gigs I can get a half decent view because of my height but I hate the fact that economy class flights are bloody uncomfortable and that in photos I need to stand well back or I tower above everyone and look ridiculous

sometimes I get “gosh you are tall aren’t you” comments. I really don’t see it as superior in any way.

and buying trousers is a major challenge

PersephonePomegranate · 08/08/2025 22:08

What is all this 'men prefer' bollocks? Is this how evolved we really are? Fucking depressing.

merrymelody · 08/08/2025 22:10

Hahaha! No. My DD and DM are both shorter than I am and I call DD my half-pint. They have strong opinions and personalities - nobody messes with them!

UrbanOasis · 08/08/2025 22:12

CrickityCrickets · 08/08/2025 18:23

I do look down on shorter women.

Haha

LoverOfTerriers · 08/08/2025 22:13

Bizarre. I’m 5ft 1 and I don’t think I’ve ever had another woman comment on it in any way. I’ve had a few men make comments but they’ve always been made affectionately. Is this really a thing?

Literally none of those women have tiny breasts. I didn’t say you can’t look feminine if you’re tall with small tits, just that I think one looks more feminine if petite & no curves instead of tall & no curves. Just my opinion anyway.

I think we’ll have to disagree. I think being short with no curves is slightly more boyish, being tall with no curves at least looks more adult like. But it probably varies from person to person.

twilightermummy · 08/08/2025 22:23

Hmm, this is an interesting thread as I was thinking about this just the other day! I'm 5'7 so not really tall but I was as a teenager. I found men used to fancy smaller girls. I had quite a short boyfriend at one stage (angry guy) and I couldn't wear heels around him. My close female family members are very small and often play the damsel and speak about how "petite" they are

I always felt uncomfortable in myself until I met my ex's family where the women were all 5'11-6'3. I can't explain how but I felt a little vulnerable! From then on I wore heels with pride. My children's father is 6'6 and the kids are all tall. My son at 13 is 5'10 and I love it! I actually feel really confident when we're all out together. People do seem bigger in general now. Some children in my daughter's year 6 class were as tall as me. I think it's beautiful. I'm saying all this but I don't look down on short people at all! I just find it interesting.**

Why is being tall a problem?

I’m not sure anyone insinuated it’s problem. I prefer being smaller to taller, in as much as we prefer anything in life.

LaughingCat · 08/08/2025 22:27

waaaaaah · 08/08/2025 21:06

@LaughingCat any stores in particular? I used to love going to Amsterdam and being able to find tall clothing easily! I’d love to try some new looks but the past few years just been in the same old LTS jeans and tees I’ve had for donkeys, because god forbid they ever change their tees range or styles 🙄

Ahhh…I’m a rocker so tend to stick with places like EMP (technically German now but they work on Dutch sizing ranges as they started by the border there). I’ll have to have a look at my pre-maternity clothes for the other brands as my mum’s family is Dutch so I get them to bring stuff over when they visit or send things over to me!

I used to love LTS but ever since they got taken over by Yours Clothing, the quality has completely tanked. I’ve had to buy most of my maternity clothes from there and it’s awful - badly fitting and falling apart. Bit cheaper than they used to be though, I guess!

MsCactus · 08/08/2025 22:32

I'm 5ft 1" and I've basically had women massively praise my figure/height my whole life. Particularly tall women have said things like "you're so dainty/petite, I wish I was". I've genuinely never experienced derogatory comments from tall women

waaaaaah · 08/08/2025 22:33

Thanks if you ever get a chance to update I’d love to know. I think LTS/Yours just assumes all tall women want Henley tops and floral dresses. I do not. I’m not exactly a style icon but sometimes get a yearning for 90s punk looks 😂

LaughingCat · 08/08/2025 22:38

NW3Lady · 08/08/2025 21:51

While I love being a bit taller than you are @NW3Lady, the bit I always found hilarious with internet dating was how many guys at 5 foot 9-10 would claim to be 6 foot. I realised that if you’re 5 foot 5, or 5 foot 7, at some point, taller than you is just, well taller so they could get away with it. But if they met me in person it would be painfully obvious they definitely weren’t. And they always said things like ‘oh, I didn’t think you’d actually be that tall’.

For the record, most of my exes have been shorter than me bar maybe 4 or 5 of them and they all LOVED my height. Not in a fetishy kind of way, they just loved the package I came in. And my aunt is 6 foot 1 and happily married to a short-arsed Yorkshireman (I know, I’m apparently not allowed to use that term anymore) for nearly 40 years. So loads of guys are definitely out there who don’t give two hoots about how tall you are!

Oh god not LTS - try ASOS tall section. They have tons of brands in longer length not just their own stuff. I live in ‘Only’ jeans.
